  1. Yep it is safe to fly. Wear compression socks and drink lots of water. Take some shake powder with you and buy bottled water to make up your shakes if you must have a meal on the plane. You can ask the flight attendants if you can use their sink to wash out your shaker. Otherwise just have water or tomato juice on the plane if you can skip eating and it is a short flight. If it's a long flight try to walk in the aisles as much as you can.
  2. The tolerance for sweet tastes is almost always reduced after surgery. Things just taste too sweet. That does tend to ease off a bit with time but not for everyone. That's why you shouldn't stock up on Protein shakes you like pre-op because there is a huge chance they will be too sweet after. Fatty foods can make you feel sick post-op so people with that reaction may lose the taste for those foods, whether fried ones or things like ice cream. Lots of us find that we start to really enjoy vegetables and we really like non-fatty seasonings like chillies, exotic kinds of salts and fresh herbs. We branch out and get more creative with how we prepare foods. We can realize that some foods give us energy and make us feel great so we can start to gravitate toward them. Some foods fill us up too quickly or hurt our sleeves and we will generally learn our lesson and tend not to have those foods often. For me, one such food is French fries. I can't eat enough of them to feel the emotional satisfaction so I usually don't start.
  3. Thanks I feel heaps better today. not 100% but at least 80%! I hope I'm 100% tomorrow.

Quest Bars are not what they say they are

Cool! I stand corrected then. I hope their ingredients and nutrition labels are found to be correct.
  5. I had a nice Christmas lunch with family and found it really easy to eat "within my means". I didn't drink, playing the "I'm sick" card. Our neighbors are coming over for a drink in a bit and I will have one then and some eggnog tonight. But I will stay close to my calorie goal and i haven't felt deprived and haven't stuffed myself either. Santa brought me a Fitbit Flex and a Fitbit Aria wireless scale! I had the Fitbit One that clips on but this one is a bracelet. I love it! And the scale syncs with MyFitnessPal automatically and checks my body fat % too. I also got a Fossil bag and a new board game, and Secret Santa gave me a mushroom growing kit!

Quest Bars are not what they say they are

I saw elsewhere that you avoid sugar and flour. Surely Quest bars have both? Unless they are gluten free and somehow sugar free? Which seems doubtful since people seem to get addicted to them. Luckily/unluckily they are not sold anywhere I have seen in Australia so I have yet to try one.
  7. That sounds amazing! How cool that you are coupling a holiday with exercise. For me it used to be seeking out all the local food to try.
  8. Did Santa bring you anything to make you healthier or more active in 2014? Among other things, I got a Fitbit Flex to replace my One (I didn't want the Force because I wear a watch) and a Fitbit Aria scale! As an added bonus it weighs lighter than my other scale!

    Hungry

It is but you will manage at most half a banana and 1 tsp peanut butter and be full!
  10. Thanks but I'm over 7 months out.

    Hungry

You can blend spaghetti meat sauce with a few cooked noodles too. Or canned beef stew. Get a rotisserie chicken and some cans of chicken vegetable Soup. Add two cups of the chicken to one can of soup and purée that. You can do the same with other Soups such as takeaway hot and sour or tom yum soup. You can also have Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, banana mashed with smooth Peanut Butter (I was told I didn't need to purée the banana but just mash it). Remember you don't need to worry as much about calories or carbs in the purée phase. You won't eat enough to matter.

    Is broth important?

Get some strawberry flavored syrup instead. Strawberries were one thing I couldn't have until several months into solids.
  13. I think if people question it, it's more about them than you. If you need surgery, maybe they are fat too? Also, people lie to us to be nice. With a BMI of 43 and 4'11" I was told I carried it well. I didn't. Here is a picture to prove it.

    Starting pureed food

Um why does she think that? Sounds fine to me.
  15. I find that if I concentrate on drinking my water and I don't eat and drink together, it helps curb grazing.
  16. Search these forums for Low BMI and you will find a lot of others in a similar situation as you.

    Scared !

You will vomit before you will do any damage. The valve at the top of your stomach is not strong enough to withstand that much pressure. But if you follow the guidelines and pay attention, you won't even have a chance of causing any issues.

    Ladies "Tom" refuses to leave...

It's pretty normal. If it lasts more than a month talk to your gynecologist. You may need a D&C.
  19. One thing is your taste will change after surgery so don't buy in bulk.
  20. Didn't your surgeon recommend any particular type of shakes? Please call and ask them.
  21. Be careful with the Smooth Move tea. It uses senna which can cause damage to your intestines with continued use. There are better options. Speak to your surgical team and see what they suggest.
  22. Yes whey is a protein source. The shots are usually collagen or gelatin, which are low quality proteins that your body can't really use.
  23. I started to get a sore throat Saturday and I tipped it over the edge into a full-blown head cold with lots of sinus pain. I feel like I have a hangover but haven't had a thing to drink. I think all the shopping and running around yesterday was the last straw. My husband is sick too but not as bad as me. So we have cancelled our plans for the evening and are going to lie low. Taking panadol cold and sinus and I hope it kicks in soon.
