    WATER AMOUNT

Sip sip sip. It will clear your stomach in 5-10 minutes. You should be taking a sip just about every minute at first. It is your full time job your first two weeks post-op. Try cold and warm and see which one your sleeve likes best. Watered down fruit juice, broth, and other beverages count as liquid too -- even your protein shakes.

    QP Protein Packets

But the collagen part might as well not be there. If you can figure out how many grams to subtract for the collagen and gelatin I would be interested to see how many grams of usable protein it has. I bet you can get as much from a glass of milk.

    Has Anybody Heard of This?

Actually the DS can be done laparoscopically and is routinely done that way now. There is a whole section of this site dedicated to the DS. You can basically think of it as a combination of VSG and RNY, or RNY with a sleeve rather than a pouch. The surgery used to be done in two stages but is now often done in a single surgery. The stand-alone VSG came about because the first stage of the DS worked so well on its own for many people. Here is the link to the DS forum: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1018-duodenal-switch-surgery-forum-new/
  4. I totally understand and agree! We are at a similar point post-op and I keep having the same thoughts. I feel like I can actually succeed at whatever resolutions I make this time. I no longer feel like a failure with regard to keeping my promises to myself. Happy new year!

    HAIR LOSS!

If I move it you will still be subscribed to it and will get notified when you get replies. But I can leave it where it is.
  6. Welcome back. I am glad you have reached out. That is a great first step. First, it sounds like you know you have a problem with eating. I would encourage you to talk to a therapist about this. You can find therapists who specialize in all kinds of eating problems. Google for NEDA, National Eating Disorders Association. There is a directory of service providers there. If you are outside the US, let us know where you are so we can help you find a similar organization in your area. Second, about the mechanism of eating with the sleeve. The sleeve doesn't expire or stop working. You have asked for the "rules" and I will outline them for you. See the link in my signature to a list of all of the major post-sleeve diets I could find from various surgeons and hospitals. They go into details. But here are the rules: 1. Protein first, every time you eat. You want more than 60 grams a day. 2. Denser protein is better. Chew your protein as much as possible. You will feel your restriction and you will feel full longer. 3. After protein, vegetables are most important, then fruits, then other things only if you are on track with protein and gave room. 4. No drinking with your meal or for at least 30 minutes afterward. You might look for the Boot Camp diet which OregonDaisy posted. It is basically those rules. Good luck!

    HAIR LOSS!

Is it ok for me to move this to a more appropriate place so you can get more answers? This part of the forum is about food and nutrition. You can also search the forums for "hair loss" as it is an extremely common topic.
  8. I have thought that so many times lately!
  9. Just wanted to point out there are other easy and cheap meals you can make your kids that might not tempt you as much or wear you out to cook. Rotisserie chicken with green beans and potato salad on the side. Salad with prewashed greens and precooked chicken strips. Chicken and frozen veggies thrown into seasoned stock for a quick soup. Just some thoughts.
  10. Guess what you can have your two favorite foods in the purée phase if you purée them. Beans are absolutely great to eat! On,ya three more days. Hang in there.

    New whey protein shots

Don't go there. They get their protein from collagen and gelatin, which are low quality proteins your body can't use. If you search this forum for "collagen" you will find more info. You might find this article interesting too: http://triathlete-europe.competitor.com/2013/08/13/the-importance-of-high-quality-protein

    Holy Restriction!

I like shredded chicken breast with low-calorie sauces like barbecue sauce or low-fat gravy or "finishing sauce" which you can get premade in foil packets in the baking aisle. You really aren't having much of it so you don't really need to worry as much about the calories. Also fattier meat works better. I have found that lamb chops work well if cooked on the BBQ and cut into really small bites. One lamb chop does me! It is all about the texture and moisture for me.
  13. You might also look in the Protein Powder section of the Food and Nutrition forum for more ideas.
  14. Canned chicken salad for lunch and ham / cheese roll ups for dinner. Heaven. I actually couldn't remember and had to look it up on MFP.

wheat, carbs my dr said NO, NO!

Calories in/out is just one theory and actually doesn't have a lot of science behind it, despite that people are always saying it. I am convinced that a big reason bariatric surgery works is that it drastically raises protein and cuts carbs, while increasing the feeling of satiety. That is a lot of mechanisms working together. You can cause your surgery to fail by reducing your protein and increasing your carbs to pre-surgery ratios. In fact that is pretty much the only way to manage to eat a lot of calories with the sleeve.

    Questran post-sleeve

It has to be calcium carbonate not citrate. That's because your body uses almost all the calcium citrate. You need some of the calcium to go all the way through. Your body only uses about 40% of calcium carbonate. The good news is carbonate is the cheap one. You shouldn't go over 1800 mg a day. It didn't do anything for me but then I have to take Questran 3x a day rather than some people who can get by with half a dose a day. I think my liver produces more than the normal amount of bile?
  18. At a concert at the Brisbane Jazz Club!
  19. First it is probably acid. Right after surgery you should be on a PPI go control the acid which feels just like hunger. Second it can take some time for the grehlin to exit your system. Follow your plan and be strong. It could also be head hunger. It takes determination. It usually gets better in a few days.

    Questran post-sleeve

Try this link for the calcium. It needs to be calcium carbonate (the cheap one). http://www.healingwell.com/community/?f=26&m=1688860

    Questran post-sleeve

Ok I tried with 3/4 cup tomato juice and 1/4 cup water and it was ok. And much less carbs than the OJ. Looks like I need to take it 3x a day right now so that will be helpful. It is helping though!

  23. Hi sheilarae, good for you for aiming to add more activity into your life. This thread is for the Couch to 5k running program. I think the January challenge might be a different thread. But of course you can stick around this one too. Edit: I don't think the January challenge has started yet. Here is the December one: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/289757-december-fitness-challenge/

    Questran post-sleeve

Questran is dead cheap. It will be cheaper than calcium and I couldn't get the calcium to work. Can your DH go to a free or discount doctor to get the RX written?
