I typically run for 50 minutes now because that's all I have time for. I still walk 5 minutes either side so that is 40 minutes of actual running. In that total time I tend to run about 6k. Just wanted to report back as another graduate who is still running. I've decided to substitute a hard elliptical workout for one of my runs to change things up, and to add Zumba one night a week (starts tomorrow)! You will be amazed what you have the energy for. I also get bored during the work day and take a walk break.

So today is my 8 month anniversary. Here are my monthly totals. There are more than 8 because I just totaled up every 4 weeks. I have had several no-loss weeks and a few gains. I didn't have a pre-op diet. Today is the end of my first week in my 10th 4-week period, meaning i am 41 weeks post-op. I could have had a baby in this time! LOL 1: 6 kg 2: 4.4 kg 3: 4.7 kg 4: 3.5 kg 5: 2.8 kg 6: 2.8 kg 7: 4 kg 8: 2.5 kg 9: 2.3 kg

I bet it's your gall bladder. Speak to your doctor. -
eating healthier
mistysj replied to Madelyne Bonthron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein more than 90 and carbs less than protein. That's it. I'm 8 months out now and I'm getting between 900 and 1100 calories a day. -
I'll look it up and post for you in a bit!

Look carefully at the serving sizes on things that claim to be zero. Often the serving size is a fraction of what you would actually use.

If it continues even when you are on solids, talk to your doctor. It could be a food intolerance like lactose intolerance, or it could be something else, like impaired gall bladder function. If it ends up being the latter, there are medications you can take to clear it right up. Ask your doctor about bile acid diarrhea.

I gained a kg this week! I'm taking it in stride and just continuing to work my plan. I think the next 10-15 kg are going to be much tougher to lose. I'm going to try Zumba on Thursday! I'm nervous I will look like an idiot but I'm excited too. A friend is going with me. I'm not sure if I would rather do it on my own or not but it is what it is.

I am posting this for the next person who is like me and is searching for info on how to tolerate Questran post-sleeve. I was prescribed this to control bile acid diarrhea from a dysfunctional (and now completely removed) gall bladder. I have suffered through diarrhea multiple times a day the whole time since surgery 7+ months ago. Questran is a powder that comes in a can like Protein powder, or in individual sachets. It has to be stirred into a liquid. It doesn't dissolve but stays suspended. You need to put it with at least 3/4 cup of liquid or half a cup of liquidy fruit like applesauce or pineapple chunks. People without sleeves can just chug it and be done. I have managed to take it just stirred into Water a couple times but have a really hard time keeping it down because it has a goopy and gritty texture and sits very heavy. So today I tried some experiments. 1. Tomato juice -- too thick. Came back up. I wanted this one to work because it would be a low-carb serving of veggies. Maybe it would work if I water it down a bit. I may try again. 2. In water with ginger cordial (flavoring sweetened with Splenda) -- tolerable but still gross 3. In half a cup of applesauce -- not terrible but gives the applesauce a gluey texture -- makes it take too long to get through it 4. In a cup of orange juice -- this is the ticket. It totally disappears into the OJ because it is already a bit thicker than water and has pulp. Assuming I don't dump from the OJ I think I am set. Tomorrow I will try diluting the OJ with water and see how diluted I can get away with. I need to take this 2x a day once the diarrhea is under control and I don't love the idea of spending so many calories and carbs on OJ even if it is an all natural one. You probably won't experience this problem but if you do, I hope this thread helps you. I hope Questran helps me and I can manage this problem and not have the one lingering side effect anymore.

Totally different things. Actigall is bile salts. Bile salts are what is causing my problems (too much of them). Your surgeon is trying to preserve your gall bladder function but mine is already gone. Update: The Questran wasn't working unless I took it three times a day, which meant a whisk lot of carbs in the form of juice. My doctor has asked me to try Colestipol granules instead. It is a little stronger so I can take it just once a day. It mixes better with liquid so I can take it with just half a cup of juice without it getting gluggy. The only negative is it tastes absolutely disgusting with orange juice. It's too bitter to take with plain Water. We have some sugar free ginger syrup that you are meant to add to water to flavor it and I have been using that. Just fine. I'm going to try tomato juice too. The colestipol has the same mechanism as Questran, just a slightly different medication. This one is the ken that comes in pills in the US, but for every packet of granules I use, I would have to take 4 pills. The good news is I have only had diarrhea once in the past several weeks.

Anyone tracking JUST protein? How?
mistysj posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I will start by saying that I know this thread might get controversial. I would like to know what you are doing but I don't want anyone to tell anyone else they are doing it wrong. I also don't want anyone to deviate from the plan that their surgical team has worked out for them. I strongly feel like you need to follow the letter of the law, at least until at least one year post-op. I have actually been deviating from my surgical team's plan BY rigorously tracking. I'm finding MyFitnessPal a little bit "heavy weight" and thinking about trying to track my food in a lighter weight, easier way. It seems to me that if I follow the "rules", and get enough Protein, I will have a tough time screwing things up because I won't even have room for many carbs. It seems overkill to track calories because again, if I get in my protein I am never very high. I might get some value in tracking carbs along with protein. I can't hide calories in MFP. I'm also just tired of tracking every bite, honestly. I have been tracking every bite for most of the last 12 years. My nutritionist and my therapist have actually both encouraged me to work toward tracking in my head. I would like to find a middle ground. I'm not quite ready to let go of the security of some kind of tracking and don't know if I ever will. -

Sleevers with lymphedema and/or 400+ start weight
mistysj replied to irockedthe80s's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have mild lymphedema even after losing over 70 pounds. It doesn't bother my surgeon and doesn't cause me trouble. For instance I run 20+ km every week. I don't take a diuretic. Hope that helps! -
You have nothing to be ashamed of. I am proud of you and I don't even know you. It takes courage to keep working to make yourself more healthy. There is a whole forum here for people with band to sleeve revisions. I know you will find even more support there. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/394-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/ All the best for your surgery.

5 questions about WLS do's and don'ts
mistysj replied to meyouus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a sleever, but I did a lot of research on RNY as well. Not all RNYers dump with sugar, and for those who do, dumping tends to lessen or stop completely several years out. The no artificial sweetener is your own surgeon's rule, not a RNY (or sleeve) rule. Most sleevers and RNYers use artificial sweeteners at least sometimes. Different people react to carbonation in different ways. I have had a few sips of beer and coke and it didn't kill me, but made me feel very full and burpy. Not worth it to me. -
May 2013 Sleevers! What are your results this far..:)
mistysj replied to GENNYOSKINNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved May 14 so 8 months this week. I've lost about 72 lbs and gone from super morbidly obese (BMI 43) to overweight (BMI 28 ). I would like to lose about 25 more and it's still coming off at about half a pound a week. I'm running about 20 km a week, added one elliptical workout a week and thinking about trying Zumba. I've gone from a 20w to a 12. I'm nearly 36 and last saw my current weight when I was 19. Also and probably most awesome, no type 2 diabetes since the surgery. I eat around 1000-1200 calories a day, at least 90 grams of protein and try to stay under 100 grams of carbs. I burn at least 1600 calories a week from exercise. -
OK....how did you know.....
mistysj replied to michelle68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of us are on liquids the first two weeks. It might be a bit early for beans. What do your guidelines say? For what it's worth, I eat beans quite often and have since about 6 weeks out. -

I've edited the title of your topic so that people can find it if they have the same question as you and do a search. I hope that's ok!
