APPROVED!!! August 12th Surgery Date!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dee21 replied to Deweydoer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!! -
My Dr was ok with me putting in a plastic flexible nose stud like this... I think the anesthesiologist is the one who had the concern but it didn't interfere with my airway at all so he was fine with it.
-
Thanks for all the info!! You all always make me feel so much better!!

Hello all. I was banded on June 11th 2013. I had my first fill last Thursday 3.25cc's. All was great but the last few days I'm nauseous. Today my port area hurts!! It looks a little swollen like after surgery. I worked for hours at the computer today and it feels like my ribs and the port may have pushed against each other causing soreness? I don't even know if that's possible. I know I'm still healing but is this normal or should I be concerned?

Its Summer, I Want To Enjoy It
dee21 replied to HotButterFly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every Dr. Is different so it's best to ask yours. Mine said I could swim once all of my incisions were completely closed. Going in with incisions that haven't healed all the way is taking a risk of bacteria getting in and causing an infection. -
I use mederma every day!! The dr was impressed at my 1 month follow-up/first fill apt.
-
Me too... I think this was day 5 This is 1 month out. July 2007 Bandsters.doc

Congratulations!! I am one month post op. From what I understand the arm pain can be from gas! Walk as much as possible. It really helps move all that gas out! Also, my back was very sore and I was told that was due to the hernia repair! I didn't have much shoulder pain. Just incision/port pain. Week two was when the back pain began. Now that I look back it wasn't all that bad. The results will be worth it!! I've lost 25lbs since surgery on June 11, 2013!

How are all the Junies doing? Im a little over 1 month post surgery. I cant explain how much better I feel now!! To be honest I was in more pain than I expected. It took me almost 3 1/2 weeks to feel normal again. I had my first fill this morning. The dr put in 3.25cc's. It's so amazing how all of our Dr's are different. He didn't use fluoroscope. It really didn't hurt at all! He numbed me, felt around for the port, put the needle in, filled it, sat me up with the needle still in, drank Water, he added more saline, I felt shoulder pain, he removed some saline and now I'm sipping soup. Liquids for one day, soft food for one day then solids if all is tolerated. I was nervous for nothing! I've lost 25lbs since surgery! He said I have no restriction so I basically did it on my own. I find that hard to believe because I definitely felt some sort of restriction...plus nothing but liquids in the beginning helped. I hope everyone is doing well!! Don't forget to update us. We are all in this together! 16.8 lbs is awesome!!

I didn't have a Pre-op diet either. All went well for me. I'm 15 days post-op and am finally feeling better!! What I did instead of a Pre-op diet was try different Protein drinks, shakes, powders. I also stocked up on liquids for the post op phase. Every Dr. Is different as you will see on here. Good luck on your surgery :-)

Yes. No exercise yet!! I have internal sutures and steri-strips that the Dr removed at my 1 week post-op.

I'm 14 days post-op. and I called my Dr today re: swimming. They said I can go in as long as all my incisions are closed and I don't have any signs of infection at the incision sites. I can't exercise but I can take a dip! :-) its 105 her in CA and a dip sounds so refreshing!!

Absolutely!! I work at a high end bicycle shop. Riding is my favorite form of exercise. I'm 17 days post-op and can't wait to ride again. I put a larger seat called "the couch" on my specialized cross training bike. It's more comfortable. Right now I have it in my "trainer" in my living room. It's way cool. Like spin class with your own bike. Makes any bike a stationary bike.

I'm just over 2 weeks post op. I also had a hiatal hernia repair during LB surgery. I'm having horrible upper back pain. By the end of the day my back is spasming. The dr told my husband my back may be sore because of the hernia repair...but still? Anyone else experience this? I'm also pretty sore at the port site. I think that is normal...everyone on here is so different. Feeling blah! :-(

Emilybites.com has some. Also Pinterest has some lap and recipes.

This book is a great tool. I picked it up at Barnes and noble last week. I make it for my whole family. So far they've liked everything. On each recipe there is a recommendation for whatever stage you are currently in. Tonight I had chicken sauté with mushrooms. Puréed of course. Yum!!

I'm on the mushy/puréed stage. I make a Protein shake for breakfast. 1/2 box ready made premier nutrition vanilla Protein Shake (Costco) 1/4 cup frozen blueberries 1/2 banana 1/2 cup cut up mango Ice Blend till smooth. Delicious!! Calories 184 Fat 2 grams Protein 16 grams Carbohydrate 23 grams (fruit makes it a little high)

Tasty baby food flavors?
dee21 replied to MaggieMay702's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a mini cuisinart. I put everything in there. No need for expensive baby food. -
How much could you get down?
dee21 replied to aphroheidi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No way!! I was so concerned but my dr told me not to worry about the protein for the first few weeks. He said to focus on staying hydrated!! What a relief!! Now I'm a little more than two weeks post-op and have no problem getting enough protein. Mushy stage is amazing!! -
Steri Strips itching
dee21 replied to asmith011289's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I experienced this. Mine started to fall off and were so itchy. I would just lightly itch around the area. That seemed to help. Luckily at my 1 week post op my dr removed the steri-strips. I would not remove them yourself. They are there for a reason. :-) I'm 2 weeks post-op and the scars are healing nicely. They are still a bit itchy at times but I resist scratching as I don't want to mess anything up!! -
I think everyone differs. I was planning on returning to work after 1 week. My plans changed. My recovery has been a little harder than I expected. I'm 2 weeks out and will go back tomorrow. Luckily I work from home and only need to go in twice a week for a few hours. Thank goodness!!! There is no way I'd be able to work a full 8 hours right now. :-(

My Dr said be prepared to stop losing or even gain once you start eating real food. Once you get into "the green zone" it will start coming off again. He said 2-4 fills is a good estimate. I've lost 24 lbs @2 wks post op. I'm afraid to weigh now that I'm eating mushies!! :-0 I guess this is all part of the journey. I hope everyone is doing well!! My complaint for today?? "My back is killing me!!!" Anyone else? Haha!!

Hello. I am 12 days post op today. Yesterday was the first day I felt pretty good. This morning I woke up with a lot if pain on the port side. It feels like a pulled muscle. A deep pain. If I push on it, it feels like a bruise. If I move a certain way it hurts really bad. Did I do something in my sleep? Should I be concerned?
-
Thanks drehn88!! Frustrating when you have a great day and then are in pain again. Glad to know its all normal!!
-
Has anyone used mederma on their incisions? If so...how soon after surgery. My Dr took my steri-strips off today and the incisions are healing well. They still hurt though and look like this...I'm 9 days post-op.
