Over month long plateau - Need to break through!
bahuber5477 replied to knmcd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would add a few more calories...Something protein rich for breakfast (I drink a shake every morning and I know it helps) might help give you the boost you need especially if your a runner. Its kind of about throwing your body off...Have you considered adding swimming to your exercise routine to or something like that. I love the elliptical and its helped me get 70 lbs closer to my goal but ive added other things now like weight training, exercise DVDs, swimming and classes...I have found I lose the most weight when im changing my exercise routine the most, staying within my calorie goal, amping up my protein. One thing I also notice is when I have a very good week I dont always see very good results until the following week on the scale. Good luck to you. You look amazing!! I hope I look as good as you when I reach 165 lbs. Im your height and ive been working hard and it looks like you have been to!!! -
That dreadful calorie goal is about trial and error. Sure you can talk to your nutritionist but even they dont always have a solid answer because its your body and it is what works for you. I personally shoot for around 1100 cals a day. I find a hard time staying under at times and Ill admit there are days I eat some of my exercise calories.

Another little tid bit. I attempt to try to not eat after midnight. It does not always work for me but I feel the best when I do it. I drink water and crystal light or sugar free coolaid like crazy all night.

I am a nurse and I also do night shifts. Lets just say I think if I worked straight days I would be down another 20lbs but it is doable. My average night shift menu is a cut up apple with pb2 because it lasts a long time and it keeps me full. I also eat string cheese and sometimes a protein bar on night shifts. The key is packing things that keep you full and that are healthy. If you like raw veggies it may be an option for you otherwise just pick things you like so you dont go find a vending machine or a cafeteria. Another thing that helps me is that I have a protein shake before I go to sleep in the morning. When im really doing well I work out before I go to bed in the morning. By doing this and showering it relaxes me and i generally sleep very well. Its just finding a nitche. ITs very hard to stay within calorie goals when working nights but it is doable.

how often do you see your doctor?
bahuber5477 replied to bandster12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see my doc at one week and then at six months then a year. I weigh in in his office with his nurses bi weekly. They are all awesome -
i drink shakeology chocolate. It is expensive but its the only thing i can tolerate. I blend it in a magic bullet with pb2, almond milk and a banana. Its delish. about 21 grams of protein.

The first point I want to make is that you are just post op if you are just starting mushies. It takes your body some time to adjust to such a change in diet especially if you did that dreadful pre op diet. Also, I recommend counting calories and Protein grams. I strive for 50-60 and that seems to work just fine for me. You may not be getting enough calories that your body needs. You can get a calorie goal by trial and error and finding what works for you or talking to your nutritionist who helped you with the lap band process. Now as far as weight loss goes. I understand your frustration. I am 24 weeks post op and have lost 70 pounds. I did however start with a fairly high BMI so I can say i did to expect to lose more in the beginning and its what im finding. I do have to work hard though. I work out at least 5 days a week and I am fairly diligent about tracking my calories on my fitness pal. I will play the devils advocate here and say im darn thankful im losing more than 1-2 lbs a week. I have a long way to go and my motivation would probably be less if I wasn't doing as well as I was. Its a lifestyle change though and making that transition in your mind takes time for long term success. I will also say I have had several weeks where I think I do so well and I work out every day and i weigh in at the end of the week and im only one pound down. I can have a fairly good week the next week but not as good as the previous one and be down 5 lbs the next. It will come. It is a process. Letting your body catch up to your new way of living takes time. Some people dont lose any weight until they get a fill. It just depends. Good luck to you, Brittany

How do I kick the soda
bahuber5477 replied to jujusmommy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly just kick it....I drank it the entire pre op diet then just quit the day of surgery -
I do exercise. I typically work out 4-5 days a week. My workout generally consists of about 25-30 minutes on the eliptical and i usually walk 1-2 miles per day no matter what. I need to do better about adding in weight training and situps but those things are very difficult for me. Once you start its hard to stop exercising because its sort of like therapy. I know your busy but make the time for yourself! IT will help with your weight loss and help you lose it in the right places. I also use my fitness pal to track all my exercise and calories. I shoot for 1100 per day and ill admit there are quite a few days where I eat most of my exercise calories. Some day ill probably have to stop that but for now I am pretty active and im losing on average of 3 lbs a week with some weeks worse or better than others good luck to you its sure a lifestyle change and a wild roller coaster ride.

I was banded on the 25th of April and I am down 62 lbs so far.

I know this isnt exactly what your looking for but im more than pleased with my 50 dollar magic bullet. The mug cups are very convenient and tis very easy to clean. Also, storing the thing is a breeze and it doesnt take up much counter space. I really love it. Id buy another one tomorrow if it blew.

i substitute low fat greek yogurt or even plain yogurt for stuff like that all the time...

8 days post op. and feeling helpless.
bahuber5477 replied to TexasKat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Honestly dont worry about it. your body cant tolerate protein so soon after surgery. I had the very same issue. I went to me one week post op appointment and was so frustrated and on the edge of tears nearly when I went to visit with my surgeon. He gave me a hug and said relax girl, your body cant always tolerate that so soon. Dont worry about it for about a month and do what you can handle. Amen!!!! I nearly jumped out of my seat with joy . Im four months in and im starting protein shakes now and for me its going much better Down 54 lbs, no hair loss, feel stronger and better than ever. You can do it! -
I really love shakeology. i know its expensive but ive tried about eight or ten different kinds and shakeology so far has my vote hands down!

When the tape starts coming off.... :0
bahuber5477 replied to ChloeHouston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know about you but i was advised not to swim for six weeks at least until my incisions are healed. I would honestly recommend for you to no swim as well if you have open incisions regardless of steri strips or whatever you have. Its still a direct open wound which can introduce bacteria and all sorts of things you dont need. -
Day 13 pre op diet
bahuber5477 replied to christy40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre op diet is literally the worst thing ive ever experienced. I had to do optifast 800 and that crap is awful. Im not proud of it but I gave in like twice...I still lost 14 lbs in ten days....Good luck to you! It was hard! -

Reduced appetite after surgery - What Gives?
bahuber5477 replied to AmandaMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded about two and a half weeks ago. For the first week I was always under calories and I had zero appetite. about two weeks youll get it back...until then enjoy not being starving like you probably were on the pre op diet if you had one . Good luck to you! I feel great now!!! -
ughh I had to take advil
bahuber5477 replied to sevenb7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know surgeons do not suggest NSAIDS...however if used sparingly they wont cause harm. There is a concern for ulcers and bleeding however your not a great deal more risk now that you had lap band than before. i am an RN....take caution is my best advice -
First of all I want to let you know that I had surgery last Thursday. Right after surgery I was put on a full liquid diet by my surgeon. I didn't have to do Clear liquids. I was asked to start my Protein supplements right away. I was having terrible nausea every morning since surgery and it would get remarkably better in the afternoon. I thought I was possibly taking in to much liquid at once so I broke up my Protein shake so I drank half in the morning and half in the evening and i was literally nauseated ALL DAY. Now today I had a meeting this morning and didn't want to be sick so I didn't drink it this morning and I feel like 100 percent better. I am going to try to make a shake with only one scoop of powder this afternoon and dilute the protein because maybe that's causing the issue however im struggling. I know i need the protein and I know that im sick after drinking it.......So far I have two brands GNC sells that has 20gm of protein per scoop. Anyone with this similar issue or any suggestions for me???

I feel terribly sick after the shakes to.....tried two different brands with the same result.

Nauseated after protein shakes
bahuber5477 replied to bahuber5477's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been using soy milk for one...I am wondering if im putting to much protein in one shake....each scoop has 20 grams and i only need 60. I was just trying to compound it in one drink because ill admit shakes are not my favorite thing. I see my doc tomorrow so Ill talk then...I might try a shake tonight with just one scoop of powder....I am just not looking forward to it...This is the bset ive felt since surgery.
