Anyone cheated on the pre-op diet, but did great with the band?
victoriously posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me on the liquid diet, and it has been up and down for me. I had a small Caesar salad yesterday, and today a half of cup of Campbell's Gumbo soup. I also had a few of my daughters animal crackers. That was pretty much the extent of my whole meal for the day. Should I be worried about how well I will be able to do after my banding? Thanks for the help!- 50 replies

Hey all. I was reading what you ladies were saying, and I do agree that sticking to your doctors plan is best. However, the whole point of having the LB surgery is because we clearly had some issues with food. It is not always easy going from overeating to not eating and drinking liquids only. Regardless of what everyone says on here, we have all cheated on way or another. Yes it is important to change your mindset on food, but I wouldn't say if you don't stick to tour pre-op, you won't do well with the band. The best thing to do is get back on the band wagon and keep going. Everyday is a learning process. You really have to just take it one day at a time. If you do have a bad day of eating wrong foods, best advice is to be active and drink plenty of water. However, what grkprincess said is true. If your liver has not shrank enough, you could put your surgery in jeopardy. So make sure you stick to the plan as much as possible. Also, maybe you should consult your doctor, and inform them that you are struggling with your pre-op and see if there is anything he will allow you to eat. So it won't be as rough for you. I wish you goodluck and keep us updated. -

Hey Charles. I'm happy to hear you are doing better. Has your eating habit and weight changed since your first fill? -

Finally starting to feel a little better. Seems like things have quieted down in here. I guess everyone is focusing on recovery or back up and feeling better. Which ever the case, I wish you all well. -
8 days post op and lapband hell!

I was allowed grits, oatmeal, and broth on my post-op. So I pureed some soup and made it really thin and that was great. Maybe you should try a little soup? -

Hi Mysa, This part sucks. A lot of people say the liquid diet is a right of passage, but I think the dang pain after the surgery should be. The best advice I can give you is what everyone else has told me. That is to walk, walk, walk, drink water and stick to the diet your doctor gives you. This will go by so fast, it will be a memory. I pray a speedy recovery for you, in Jesus name. Amen. -

If you keep that up, your band may slip and you may have no choice but to have a revision with sleeve done. Be careful and again, just remember why you did this. If the doctor has cleared you to eat, make better food choices, and eat foods that are high in protein and low in carbs. Eat to live, don't live to eat. Good luck. -

Once you get your fill, all that will change. Your mindset and relationship with food is something you will have to work on as well to be successful. Good luck. Just remember why you did this, -

You will get there Jenni. Just relax and take it slow. Enjoy allowing your family to help take care of you. Don't push yourself too much. Remember, you just had surgery, and your body needs that time to heal right. You don't want any future complications that will cause you to have to have surgery again. Good luck! -

You should really take it slow. Seems like you may be doing a lot. My incisions are not leaking, and I haven't heard too many others complain about this either. Please contact your doctors office tomorrow and inform them of what's going on, and in the mean time. Give your body a break, and relax. -

Hi group, I just want to encourage everyone to not compare your recovery to others. I have noticed that there are some that say they recovered quickly and others like myself that are still not feeling 100%. I am on day 5 of my recovery, and I am still popping pain killers like they're skittles. I am walking as much as I can, but also allowing myself the R&R my body needs to heal and recover. Don't push yourselves too much, do what you can and focus on just getting better. Everyone's recovery is, and will be different just like everyone's weight lost journey differs. It is good for those of us who are healing and recovering quickly, but it is also ok for those of us who are taking it easy and allowing our bodies to do what they were made to do naturally. Walking has helped me, but resting and relaxing has been good for my mind and body. I have also learned that depression may sneak in, but it is normal to feel a little down. Due to the fact, you have just made a huge life altering decision, and it is going to take sometime to adjust to a whole new lifestyle. For me, when I am down or not feeling well, I would turn to food for comfort. So what do you do when your body no longer allows you to do that? It's like detox, or going through withdraw. So feeling a little sad, or down is expected. This message is just to encourage those of us who may be asking ourselves, what the hell did I do to myself!? I know that this transition and healing process is only temporary, and we will survive, and succeed in the end. Hears to us! (holding up my protein shake) -

Everyone heals differently. Especially if you didn't have a hernia repair or prior surgeries. -

I had mine today. I am at home and feeling miserable. I'm in a lot of pain. I walked around my living room a few times and that was painful. My back and my stomach hurt. Hope it gets better soon. -

Yes, surgery was today and the Doctor said i did well. He had to fix a hernia, but he said that was fine too. My shoulders are not hurting so bad, but my back and stomach are. I tried walking around my living room, and that was painful. We´ll see how tomorrow goes. I am so uncomfortable. -
