Same here. BCBS didn't cover my surgery either. I can tell you this though, you will SAVE money on the amount of food you no longer buy/consume! I am already seeing that! The first few days were tough for me, some pain, mourning food, questioning if I did the right thing. I think the majority if people have these thoughts at first. The two week of liquids after surgery is no fun!! You just want something to chew, lol. After those two weeks though it is MUCH MUCH better! You can do it! If you ever have questions or need to talk, just message me anytime!

Had my surgery 7/30 with Dr Walton at Weight Wise. I live in far south OKC/ almost Moore. Staff and doctors are fabulous! Most of the staff has had the surgery themselves. Had a great experience through the entire process. 2 1/2 weeks post op and feel amazing and down 19 pounds!

Marsha is my patient advocate also! Have you seen her before and after photo? Amazing, and just one year it took! I only had 13 pounds to lose (5%of my body weight, weighing 266.).

Dr Walton did my surgery on 7/30. Down 18 pounds and feel great! Have had no problems at all! Post op just consisted of a clear liquid diet the day before, and no liquids after midnight that night. Also have to buy an anticeptic wash called Hibiclens and wash your stomach with it the night before and morning of surgery. When you get there they will make you take a pregnancy test (urine sample) and blood work, then you sit in the waiting room a bit. After they call you to the back you are weighed, and an IV is inserted pumping fluids and some medicine that makes you a little drowsy. They also give you an anti-coagulant shot in your belly to prevent blood clots. Then they wheel you off. At this point I just remember being in the surgery room for about 2 seconds and then I was out cold (this is when they give the general anethesia and intubate you (run a tube down your throat). I woke up in recovery and was VERY out of it!! They immediately put compression socks on your legs and you have an oxygen mask for the first half hour or so. After you start to be more alert they bring in fluids (broth, tea, Jello, propel) for you to start drinking, you need to use the bathroom for them (urinate), and a breathing apparatus you need to blow into every hour to prevent pneumonia. Then when you are ready (I was groggy for about 4 hours after surgery and slept off and on), they have you start walking. Every hour! Seems like by the time you finally get your compression socks on, your IV untwisted, and lowly ease yourself back in to the bed, it's time to walk again, lol. The nurses were absolutely wonderful (not to mention a very cute male nurse who worked the night shift, lol). Best hospital experience ever! I don't think you can ever really be prepared for this surgery til you go through it. For the first 3 or 4 days I mourned food, wondered if I did the right thing, etc. This is all normal. Just get past the head hunger and liquid stage and you will be fine! Now, 2 weeks out, my head hunger is gone, I can "drink" Water for easily than those horrible sip sip sips ALL DAY LONG, and I have moved past the liquid stage and finally get to chew!! No regrets! Hope this helped a little. Please message me if you ever have questions or need anything! Good luck!

Yes, I go on occasion! Love them! I live in Moore and don't get off til 5pm so it's hard getting up to Edmond by 6pm in traffic. Wish I could go more!
  7. My Dr. wasn't as concerned with protein the first 2 weeks (full liquids) as he was getting my 64 oz or more of water to avoid coming back for dehydration. Week three (mushy foods) is where he wants me to start thinking all about protein. No problem! Ill be ready for some protein packed REAL FOOD! I have loved soup my entire life but after this, I don't wanna see soup for a LONG time!
  8. 16 down for me and feel great! Ready for some refried beans, scrambled eggs, and tuna though, lol.
  9. Went back today (work in insurance at a desk). Did great! No problems at all and energy level was fine! Yippee!

    Pickle juice?

6 days post op and wish I could have a pickle, but know I can't. What about a little pickle juice though?

    Anyone have PCOS?

I am only 6 days post op with PCOS, but I can say that on the 4th day post op, I actually started showing signs of getting my period back (been gone for four months now). I have also lost 9 pounds so far! Hope many of my other PCOS issues go away as easily as these first ones. The disease is one of the main reasons I chose to do the surgery. I am insulin resistant as well. Good luck, keep us posted!!
  12. Sleeved on the 30th and had egg drop soup 4 days post op. I strained what egg off I could, but some tiny pieces still came through. Didn't give me any problems at all and tasted great! Thank god because I was over broth, had some cream of potato (strained the potato and made with skim milk). The best soup so far! Satisfied my mental hunger!

Surgery date tomorrow with Dr Walton at Weightwise!!
  14. Same here. Surgery at 2pm! Wish it were earlier, I am going to be so thirsty!
  15. Wowzerz!! You look great! Congrats!
  16. We have friends over that I cook for on Sunday evening, so I did tend to eat less healthier things on that day, for that meal only. Then I got right back on track come Monday morning. It never affected my weight loss. I don't think one meal a week, and not gorging yourself, will hurt your weight loss overall IMO. My biggest friend has been Water, water, water! Keeps it all moving!
  17. Tuesday is the day! Not too nervous I guess. Never been under general anesthesia and hoping I don't say something too embarrassing coming out of it, lol. My biggest fear is nausea. I already get nauseous from anything (car rides, any motion I'm not in control of making). Not too fearful of pain, as I have had a cesarean and PA said it is not any worse than that, and I wasn't in pain at all. Another hurdle will probably be cooking for my 3 year old and legally blind husband. Afraid the mental "want" to eat will be frustrating, cooking all their meals. I know I can do this though! And I can't wait for the results!! Eeek!!
  18. July 30th here. Ready but nervous. Researching and getting my head wrapped around the mental issues I may go through of loving food, being bored and wanting to eat. I have high pain tolerance but get nauseated at the drop of a hat. Don't want nausea!
  19. My name is Alyssa and I am brand new to this forum. I am self pay and having gastric sleeve surgury some time in July. I am needing to get my pre-opt lab work done and have bcbs. My sugeon told me I could take the lab request to my PCP and he could order the labs through him, thus being able for the lab work to be covered by my insurance (he has also put reasons for labwork needed as sleep apnea, GERD, incontinance, joint pain, etc.). My pcp is kind of an old fart, and I am uncertain he will even approve of me doing the surgery (keep in mind I am never sick, never use my pcp, and he has only seen me probably 3 times in the past 4 years I have been on my husbands insurance.). My question is, if I go to get the labwork done on my own, not with my pcp, will insurance pay for any of it? And also, can my PCP out right refuse to order the labs for me?
  20. @Chrisbthin- BCBS/Blulincs of Oklahoma will not pay for gastric surgery.
