Has anyone incorporated the Mediterranean diet with their band? My cardiologist suggested the diet, but I'm not sure if being banded will allow me to eat the grains and nuts. I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks!!

My concern is just switching from an emphasis on protein to an emphasis on vegetables. I haven't tolerated lettuce or really any raw veggies at all yet. Just nervous I guess, you're right. If the dr says do it and she knows I have the band then it must be safe.

I just had my second fill. Losing at a rate now of about 2-3 lbs. 7 cc in my band. Much tighter. I am now going in my closet and getting frustrated because clothes are too big not too tight. Keep working it. I found exercise helps me. I walk ~2 miles each weekday. If I can do this anyone can. I don't eat red meat , Pasta, or any breads. My diet is coffee with full octane creamer in the am, Protein shake at 930, chicken or tuna salad at 1, fresh fruit at 330, and fish for dinner. My nutritionist wants me at a 1000 calorie day. I track my food on my fitness pal. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

I'm still not able to run yet - I find walking briskly much much easier. A far as port pain, I learned not to bounce in trampoline with kids, even now9 wks post surgery.

I felt my port fold/bend when I bent down

I too have felt this, and assured that its normal. I can feel my port, and so can my kids. It doesn't t bulge out, but I can feel it sitting at my desk. -
I have my first fill scheduled for this week, and last week I had a sidebar conversation with my surgeon at a meeting. He told me I was losing weight fine, and he didn't recommend a fill, but if I wanted to spend the money, go ahead with it. I typically see his NP, and she had scheduled my fill 3 weeks ago. Yes, I'm losing on average 3-4 lbs a week, and am almost 6 wks post op, but I can eat more than 1/2 cup. I think my weight loss is contributed to the complete change of diet and the addition of more exercise. And I don't feel the restriction of the band, which he said I shouldn't. I've read on here that if you can eat more than 3 meals a day, over 1/2 cup each time that you need a fill, which is exactly what his NP said. I'm still going in for the fill, just wanted to see if anyone else had similar experience. Thanks.

Surgeon didnt recommend a first fill

I wanted to share that I went ahead with my first fill. Both me and the NP were surprised that I already had 5 cc's in my band from surgery. I have a 10 cc allergan lapband it was not painful, did feel the stick and was able to have a conversation with my NP while she was removing the air pockets. She added 1.5 more cc's, making a total of 6.5 in my band. Liquids for 24 hrs later, then 2 days of soft food, and by Friday back to my routine. I still feel little restriction, just in the mornings, it is hard for me to get anything down prior to 9, and I started taking my vitamin at night, which definitely helped with the nausea in the mornings. Thanks to all who responded. -

Got Lap band on march 29th
vachik89 replied to MakeUpbyLetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on March 25, and actually called the surgeons office today, because I am exhausted. I told them that I was doing a protein shake in the morning, tuna salad and string cheese for lunch, and salmon with green beans at dinner. I was told that I wasn't getting enough calories, and needed to eat more. Didn't make sense to me, last week I felt great??? -
Hi I was banded on March 25, 2013. I had my first follow up post op visit April 4. Pre liver shrinking diet weight was 232, current weight is 213. I started the "moonshies" on Friday. Never been so happy to eat a scrambled egg in my life. I also had a hiatal hernia repair, and get to go back to work Monday, April 8. I have found that I M not hungry, yet, on this current phase. I can no longer drink decaf coffee, weird, since I was able to do that during the liquids only phase. My energy level has increased, and I have dropped an entire pant size. I voiced concern about gaining weight during this phase, and my nutritionist told me to expect some, but to keep my focus. I can't have any breads or Pasta or red meat yet, so my meals have consisted of a Protein shake, injury, for Breakfast , cottage cheese and canned chicken for lunch, and salmon for dinner. I look forward to a lot of success on the band!
