You're not alone. I'm right there with you. Got off track for about 4 years and am slowly getting back on track. I'm also self pay. The fist step I made was to go to my doctor to have my band tightened. Now I'm focused on chewing each bite of food 20 times and eliminating bread. I guess my philosophy is to get back on Track one step at a time. We did this before.... We can do it again!

70 pounds in 1 year is awesome! Give yourself some credit for all of your hard work and take a moment to reflect on how far you've come in a very short time. Great job!

Acid Reflux - its not always the fluid making the band tight!
Julie145 replied to pgkpjs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is really helpful. I've been struggling with acid reflux for the last couple of weeks. I thought it might be because the band is too tight, but maybe it's the reverse problem. I'll check with my doctor. Thank you for this post. -
What to do for a sugar craving
Julie145 replied to Deed2u's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My favorite is The Healthy Indulgences Cookbook: A Guide to Baking All Natural, Sugar Free Deserts. I also like Diabetic Dream Deserts. Note: you need to purchase special sugar substitutes to bake some of these recipes, but they have never caused issues with my band. -
What to do for a sugar craving
Julie145 replied to Deed2u's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a sugar addict and will always fight the craving for sweets, but the band definitely helps. Additionally, I found some cookbooks in amazon with sugar free desert recipes. I like to bake, so having some options for continuing to do so helps. -
Wow! Thank you for sharing. I had no idea that stress will change the tightness of the band. I have a high stress job and am a tightly wound person in general. This is something I definitely need to be aware of.

Whitlow (and everyone who responded) thank you for this post. I just had my band tightened and started having night reflux a few nights ago. I haven't thrown up, so am hopeful it's just too tight. I'll make a doctor's appointment too. Whitlow- any word since your doctor's visit? Hope all is well.

need help w/stress and emotional eating!! ugh!!
Julie145 replied to str1349's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's a tough one. I also like to go to the cafeteria, just to get away from my office for a break. I used to bring a book to work. During lunch I would go somewhere away from the office a read for a little bit. Found it very relaxing and was able to go back to work refreshed. Of course the book must be completely mindless with no redeeming values... If it makes you think, you can't relax. I'll probably start doing that again now that I'm back on program. Hope that helps. -
Thank you!

Hi. I posted to the main page before I realized this great support group for 2005 Banders was around. I've had great success with my band, but went off program in 2009 because I was relocated for work (or perhaps that's just a lame excuse). After watching my weight creep back up (gained 50 percent back), I found a local doctor willing to take me as a patient. Had the band checked and filled this past Friday. My journey is starting again and I know finding a good support group is critical to success. So glad you're here! Julie

Hello all. I'm new to this site and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I had my lap band surgery in 2005. I had great success... Followed program, participated in groups, lost 60 pounds. Fell in love. Got married. Husband was (and is) very supportive of my weight loss and understands the restrictions of the lap band. Fast forward to 2009. Something changed. My company relocated us. I lost touch with my support group and doctor. Stopped following program. Not surprisingly, I started gaining weight. As of today, I have regained 30 pounds. I've finally found a local doctor willing to accept me as a patient. Band is fine and was adjusted this past Friday with additional Fluid. I feel like I'm being given a second chance with my band and am excited to get back on track. There seem to be a lot of forums on this site, so I'm wondering if there is one for a prodigal Bander like me? Thanks for your help.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother. I also feel like I'm starting over with my band (2005 surgery) so hope we can give each other support. Julie
