Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
janiebug replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really don't have a lot of pain from the lap band. It seems if that is all I had done I would have been fine in a day or two. I was also lucky enough to avoid alot of the gas, and I wasn't able to get up after surgery. One thing I have learned from this post is how different everything about being banded is depending on your Dr. I made an appointment today for a fill, will that hurt or take a long time? Tracy, you know you have been quite a source of inspiration and information, I wish you the best of everything!!! Jane -

Hi, finally feeling well enough to post, but I don't think the pain is coming from the band. I do have some discomfort on my left side where the port is, not bad though. I am having to wear a I can't think of the name right now, but a very constrictive white thing on my abdomen. The hernia that they fixed had many feet of my intestines out and to the side, so when she put it back in and did the repairs a large hole was left, so to try to keep fluid from building up she put this binder on. It takes two people to get it on and I am not one of them. I have to find a better way so I can go back home!! I am so blessed that I have two wonderful and capable parents to take care of me. I feel bad that they are in their 70's, and this probably was not on the 'parent' list of responsibilities, but feel very blessed. Still have not had a bowel movement since Monday, taking miralax 2x's a day for that problem..... As far as food goes there is very little I can't eat. Never felt any kind of restriction at all. I had pasta last night and even though I had read horror stories I was okay with it. I can't eat fresh vegetables or fruit, but basically I am very very very suprised at how unrestricted I am. I am able to take pills and everything. I am sure that after my first fill or so I will be singing a different story, they did say they put in the biggest band, so maybe since they did the hernia repair they don't want to limit me so much?? Oh well I have talked way tooo much! Tracy you have been a great supporter in starting this thread, I hope you feel all the love and support you have given others come back at you!!! Jane -

Okay, I printed out my taxes, getting frustrated because I can't find the estimated part (I am self employed), but it did manage to keep my mind occupied. I think that is the key for me today. I think tommorrow I will be very busy and won't have time to think. Plus on Tuesday my surgery is scheduled for 7:00 so no worrying through the day about it since it is first thing. Sorry for the freak out earlier! Hopefully that is my last! Jane -

I can't believe I am saying this but Tuesday morning I will have the surgery!!! I am kind of nervous!! Will do taxes today and some work stuff, clean house etc... Last night I couldn't sleep wrote some thank you notes, took my mind off of things for a while. I feel like I am going into this with only a 1% chance of survival. I don't know why I am so negative, it is not the first surgery I have had, and certainly not the most serious. I don't think I am worried about the lap band, or the hernia which they are doing at the same time, but just the fact of going out again. I feel like I have been given many chances to get my life right, and I have screwed them up and haven't made the most of what I have been given...Crazy huh, I feel like I can open up here because you know what is coming. I actually feel a little better getting this off my chest, maybe I will finish up my taxes and do my city tax license for work... Sorry if I am negative.... Jane -
Well I am sitting here at the computer kind of nervous, don't know why. I do have a lot to do in a short time, but that will be good in a way because it will keep my mind occupied. But I am still worried. Need to write thank you notes, should be doing that, really should be sleeping, need to do that!! Maybe I will write three thank you notes and then go to bed.

PBing sounds not nice. YUCK!! Thanks for letting me know! I wish the hernia was just a stitch! It is bowling ball size on the outside, the Dr. really doesn't know what it will look like when she gets in. This is from some major complications I had from surgery in 2003. So I guess it is the fear of the unknown that looms for me!!! Thanks again!! Jane -

Now this is a stupid question, but a lot of posts I have read over the past month tak about p/b, never have figured out what it meant, thought I would find out by just reading... Getting nervous!! Instead of saying a week or three weeks or whatever when people ask, I say Tuesday!!!! SCARY!!! Had a bad dream the other night that the girls in the or were eating lunch and snorting cocaine!! How odd, just my nerves, and can sort of laugh that it was SO stupid, but still I am scared. Thanks to all your posts I am not worried about the lap band, I am worried about the hernia repair. I am sure if there was a hernia board my mind would be put at ease! I am rambling, sorry!!! Thanks in advance for the definition of p/b!!! Jane -

That is a great idea about the charms! But gosh if I got a charm for every 7 pounds I lost I would need more surgery to add an extra arm or two! This has got me thinking that I need to plan something special for my weight loss, can't wait to hear what everyone else is doing!!! Jane -

I am wondering about my sleep apnea, the Dr. said to bring my c-pap with me, it is soo big and ugly on, that I hate anyone to see me with it on. I don't care if they are in the medical proffession. I guess what my main question is, is do they make you wear it when you are in lala land, or just when you sleep at night. I live by myself, and NO ONE ever sees me with that on!!! I guess I am more worried about that than anything... Jane -

I am with Jennifer, I am the day after her, I am getting nervous!!!!! Fortunately for me I will be SUPER busy at work (I am a hairdresser), so that will keep my mind off the upcoming surgery. I am having this done in conjunction with a large hernia that I have, so I actually am more nervous about that then I am about the lap band. I did lose an amazing amount of weight last week, so that is good, but now am worried because my period is going to start on Saturday, and always gain from that. I think I have 4 more pounds to lose before surgery (doctor wanted me to lose 50). Tracy where are you!!!!! Thinking of you and hoping everything is fine!!!!!! Jane -

I can relate to feeling hunger, my lap band is the 17th of the month, and I have been on it for 6 days. Terrible feelings of hunger. I think I am going to eat tommorrow, and then liquid til the surgery!! I read some people talking about drinking through straws, is that because you like it or is it medically advised? Thanks Jane -

I went to JCPenney today and got the JCPenney version of the Magic Bullet and it is on sale at least through Saturday night (4-7) for $29.99. Just tried it and it works great. It has all the same stuff as the magic bullet, strainer, lids, extra cups, etc... I am thinking about going back and getting one for work! Jane -

One day of liquids down and 13 more. It is not too hard, but I agree night time is the hardest. I have to admit I cheated a bit last night and threw some frozen blueberries in my drink and blended. Never thought I would say I cheated on Blueberries!! -

I have noticed a number of posts about gum, I always have gum in my mouth, is there something I don't know? As far as exercising goes, 35 minutes is a lot for me. I am very overweight and at the MOST I get 25 minutes but usually it is about 15 or 20 minutes on the treadmill. Maybe the exercise can be edited for those not yet banded or those that are not able to exercise at least 35 minutes? Jane -
