I just took an interesting survery about weight loss. I believe it was through a company working for "Self" magazine. It really made me think, one of the things I just thought was a quirky thing on my part is the fact I don't like my food to touch. This survery sort of alluded to the fact that it is part of an eating disorder. I didn't have any of the other quirky things people do with their food. I was just wondering if maybe other people shared this. Jane -

I went to the Dr. this morning and no fill. Not really surprised though. In two weeks I will get one on the 24th of May. She also drained over one liter of fluid off my belly where she fixed the hernia. She said it would probably come back. Next time she says I need to have it done with an ultrasound to make sure they get all the fluid off. The reason I went was a pain I kept having on my left side (hernia on right) she said it was a stitch and could take 2 to 3 months for the pain to go away. I hope this is true. I can't imagine a stitch hurting this much, but I don't want to look for trouble. So at least I have a date for the fill which makes me feel better. After the appointment I thought, well at least I will get my moneys worth at brunch on Sunday naughty girl am I not??? Judy, Love the violet hair!! I am a hairdresser so I can get you more at wholesale if you want to keep that 'look'! but I think everyone is right that you should be the mascot!! Pamela, Very nice weight loss!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I had surgery on the 17th of April and am not holding out hope for a fill, but there is a little hope? I am worried about the hernia repair and hope all goes well. I really think there is a problem there, obviously not huge or else i would be feeling really bad now, but my left side hurts and I can't take a bm without holding it. The odd thing is my hernia was on the right side. I don't think it has anything to do with my lap band because it is too high and the pain in in the bottom half. So keep fingers crossed that all is fine. Also a little fill would be great!!! Jane -

I really was glad about the vitamin issues everyone shared. I think that is part of my problem! I am going to look into some of the water. I like my water with ice and from the tap. I am not nor have I have ever been a soda drinker, so I think that flavored water may taste like soda. I will go to the store and see. Do they make unflavored vitamin water? Thanks again!! Jane -

I have an appointment with my Dr. on Thursday, and the woman who made the appointment said she could possibly do a fill that same day. I am having such a hard time today. I am supposed to go back to work next Tuesday, and as of today there is no way!!! My stamina and the way my tummy feels is miserable. I do remember the nutritionist saying something about needing B-12, does anyone know anything about it? Maybe that is my trouble just a B-12 defiency? Thanks for letting me babble!!! Jane -

Okay, I am up 3 pounds this week. I can blame some on a scale change, but not 3 pounds. I am also having some complications (I think) from the hernia surgery that accompanied the band. I am waiting for the Dr. to call back with suggestions. I should have called last week, but I hate Dr.s. I really do, I am so bummed out right now. Jane By the way Laura your house looks neat!!! That is so exciting starting from scratch! You get to pick everything out don't you? Congrats!!! -

My Doctor has BMI standards, not really weight per se. I am not sure what they are, but pretty high. I have a little over 200 pounds to lose and already have lost 60. I am getting impatient since I spent $15,000 of my money on the surgery. I just need a fill. When I think of how long I waited to have the surgery once I made up my mind a month really is nothing, and actually I am scheduled for a fill the 15th of May. I am having a little trouble with the hernia surgery I had in tandem with the lap band, so hoping that doesn't set me back with the fill. So Pamela I think it is up to the Dr. how much weight someone has before they will do the surgery. I know that I had a BMI of over 60 and she said that I had to get that down a bit before she could do it for sure laproscopically (sp). Basically I could have just made this very short and said I need a fill!!!! Jane -

I came home from my mom and dads house Wednesday, I was obviously weighing on her scale, I try to just weigh on Mondays, but I have weighed the past few days and my weight keeps going up. I am now up 5 pounds!!!!!! I know for a few days I sort of ate more, but I don't have anything really fattening here. I have really be watching it the past two days and when I stepped on the scale today I just about died!!! Well tommorrow is a new day and a new weight that is official!!! thanks for letting me vent!! I think all or most of us got the band implanted empty. All of us are having to wait for our first fill. It is the actual fills that help us in our weight loss like you stated earlier. Jane -

Jill, I had the same situation and the Dr. told me I could take advil. He told me not to take a lot, but it was okay. You might want to call your Dr.'s office and see if that holds true for you. It is amazing how diet, drugs, and fills differ depending on your doctor!! Jane -

Pamela, I have been obsessing over one of the items you passed on!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tracy, I am so glad you are spreading the good news of the band, I only wish that I had had someone to be an example, it is one thing to spread our fears and dreams on this thread, but another thing to talk to someone that has had is done personally. Still don't know anyone face to face that has had this done, and I am in a big city!! Well I found out that I can eat Quakes rice snacks, as a matter of fact I found out that I can have a small 3 ounce bag (that has 5 or 6 servings) in one sitting!!! Need that fill!!!!! Jane -

Can't say I am in counseling just for the addictive overeating, but I am in counseling and that is a big part that we deal with. I really have made a lot of strides since I have been seeing counselor, but even with her I don't lie, I just don't tell all that is there. I was really surprised when I took my picture before surgery that I was overweight. I was probably 200 pounds overweight when I started this journey in August of last year, lap band was not an alternative for me since my insurance wouldn't cover it. I was just going to have hernia repaired. The Dr. wanted me to lose 50 pounds, so slowly but surely I did, then I started thinking that it is about the cost of a new car, and I have a 2000, and God forbid something happen I plan to keep it for a long time, so I got a home equity loan and the rest is band history. But, if I think for one minute that is the easy answer I am fooling myself. I do think sometimes its going to be easy. Boy am I in trouble! that is why I am going to keep working with my counselor who believes in the small steps. Sorry this is long. But I gradually added more fruits and veges to my diet she was thrilled. I think she would be thrilled with one extra piece of broccoli. Same with the whole grains. When I first started on my treadmill, she said two minutes every few days, before surgery I was doing about 20 minutes most everyday. So slowly but surely hopefully this will be my life and I will be thinner and healthier. Sorry again for the length. Jane ps. Thanks Kat about the cake I was feeling kind of guilty! -

I really felt the words that lunasa wrote about secretly eating. I have done the same, or acted like I was ordering for more than just me. I hope I never go back to those times. People especially at my work think I don't eat much. But, I live by myself, and eating there I have no accountability what so ever. It really is sad what I have done. Now with this band I feel lke I have the opportunity to change a lot of the bad habits I have made. Although today, I went out for lunch for my moms birthday, and ate a couple bites of soup, some of my quiche, got that packed up to go, then ordered a piece of red velvet cake, it came in a foil pan that is about 4 inches in diameter and about 1 1/2 inches high. I told myself I would only eat maybe half and then tell the waitress to take it away, I didn't want to tempt myself with it to even take home, well I ended up eating the whole thing. You are not supposed to do that after you have been banded. Where was my control? I have yet to get a fill, and have not had any restrictions put on my eating. Okay enough of my complaining. Hope everyones May is a great one!!! Jane -

I think that exercise challenge sounds like a good one! I would like to sign up! Now here comes the million questions!! Sorry to be a bother!!! 1. Is there a special thread for the May Exercise challenge? 2. Tracy thank you so much for sendin those pictures to me, but how do I access that thread, I tried a search and came up with odd things 3. I tried to delete my old 'graph' showing a countdown to the surgery and I can't figure out how to delete it!!! I am sure more questions will follow, just not real smart when it comes to editing this!!! Anyways, I also have come to band hell I guess. I am always hungry. I really didn't have any restriction at all. Came home on soft foods (did stay a few extra days in hosp. for hernia), and have had NO problems eating anything, well I did have an incident with a pea, but that is it. My weight loss does look great, but have been at it since August 2006. I think since Mid March I have lost 25 or so pounds. Now that the worst is over, I would like to thank everyone who has been so so so supportive. I was sooo petrified going into this. Kat with all her wisdom she leant to us was great, open, and inspirational. Tracy, you have been a great supporter of this board and will always appreciate your kind words and encouragment!! I know all this sounds schmaltzy, but it is true!!! Thank you to EVERYONE HERE for making this a place where we feel free to discuss our deepest and our shallowest fears!! Thanks again, Jane -

Congrats Tracy!!! So now that April is almost over we have had no problems as a group? I did read that someone had a slight port infection, that is amazing. Did everyone have their band placed empty? If so when if your first fill? Mine is the 15th of May which so happens to be my first day back at work!! Jane -
