Scared I won't have a hernia. EGD on 16th
stept04 replied to PlanoMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI I am north of Fort Worth, just thought I'd introduce myself to a fellow Texan. Glad you had the hernia. Good luck with getting banded. ~~~Stephanie -
Funny. I would think you could, if there is fat anywhere on your body if would be susceptible to weight loss. It may be a matter of having to loose a lot to notice the difference though. I'm just guessing I have not loss but 20 pounds and have not notice as of yet. ~~~Stephanie

Unflavored protein powder - recs wanted
stept04 replied to aviva1979's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bariactric Advantage Meal Replacement and Syntrax Nectar both have an unflavored Protein. I have not tried the unflavored, but I believe you can buy samples at BariacticAdvantage.com, No association to Bariactric Choice which pops up under google and confuses you. I do know the nectar dissolves really well when I make my fuzzy navel flavor, so it may be something to look into if your wanting that, the Nectar may work well. ~~~Stephanie -
Just for your info, I do believe they have a True Result in San Antonio, and they may be willing to take you in if something happens when your down there. Just thought I'd mention it. ~~~Stephanie

I start solid foods today
stept04 replied to deeberry's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would suggest just taking it easy, small bites and chew real well. Do that every time you start a new food. I say this because I did not do that and wish I had because I ended up stuck, but it was my own fault my bites were to big and I did not chew well every time I introduced new foods. I thought because I had not had a fill I would have no restriction, but I did with certain foods. I also though since the soft foods went down so easy I would not have a problem either, but I did. So just take it slow, small and chew. ~~~Stephanie -
Banding abbreviations...
stept04 replied to Iwilldothis2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plication is a new procedure where they fold your stomach and staple it together. It makes your stomach smaller. They usually do it with the band, but most insurances do not cover it so you have to do self pay for that one. I wanted it done but my Dr.'s office had not heard of it yet, that is how new it is. ~~~Stephanie. -
First Post op fill
stept04 replied to asmith011289's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not suppose to have anything 2 hrs before my fill. That includes no liquids. You could possibly call the office and find out their requirements. Good luck ~~~Stephanie -
Have you tried granola in yogurt? I have it all the time, Iove it. Also oatmeal and cream of wheat are good suggestions. You can do a boiled egg .I know some people eat rice for breakfast, they eat it with sugar and milk. There are also all kinds of healthy cereals out there to chose from. I also eat cottage cheese with fruit like peaches, strawberries, and pineapple, that is good too. ~~~Stephanie.

Sorry, I know this has probably been posted a 100 times but I had no luck searching for it. So I guess I'm just going to have to ask . I am having a problem understanding how to know when am satisfied instead of full. I only know when I feel full. I don't know how to tell when I am just satisfied. Is there a feeling that would let me know? Can anyone help me figure out how to tell when I am satisfied? Right know I am just measuring out 4 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup vegi's,and 1/2 cup complex carbs. I am eating that till I finish the plate, and I usually I feel full. In between my meals I think I get hungry, but I can't tell for sure. I'm just forcing myself to stay at 1200 calories a day and the weight loss is slow going. I have my second fill coming up next week, I am trying to figure this out so I'll be ready when I hit the green zone. Thanks in advance. ~~~Stephanie

Boob pressing on incision - anyone else have this?
stept04 replied to aviva1979's topic in The Gals' Room
I had the same problem. I was able to wear a wire bra and it lifted my boobs off of the incision. Luckily the wire sat higher than the incision. My boobs sat to low with a regular bra or by themselves they were real bad too. I guess it just depends on your anatomy and where the incision is. Good luck ~~~Stephanie -
I have wondered if it has anything to do with the vegus nerve. Maybe when we eat to a certain point it applies more pressure to the nerve and depending on what spot of the nerve is touched it effects that corresponding area. Just a thought, I don't know for sure how it works. ~~~Stephanie

Wow, so sorry things are not going well for you. I've only been banded 6 weeks, no problems so far, but I do know it is possible for me to be in your shoes. I sure hope not though. Just wanted to extend my sympathy to you and hope that things will turn around for you. Good luck ~~~Stephanie

To help with the shoulder pain you can use a heating pad it really helps. You can also use the heating pad where ever you have your gas pain too. ~~~Stephanie

From what I've read, that is completely normal. I burp more often and louder than I use to and according to the post I've read it is common. Your right it probably is your soft stop also. ~~~Stephanie

How do your other doctors feel about you tting the lapband?
stept04 replied to clg61753's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP, Cardiologist, and ObGyn were very supportive and excited about me getting the lap-band. ~~~Stephanie -
I have the Realize Band, the Doc didn't give me a choice, but I do know that they use the Realize Band 10cc and 15cc, I received the 10cc band. He based his decision on my anatomy. I did get restriction by my first fill, the nurse said it was because he used the 10cc band instead of the 15cc which he usually uses, they usually see restriction with the 15cc around fill 3 or 4. I'm only 6 weeks out, but I have had no problems. ~~~Stephanie

I had the same thing happen to me. My port sits in between my wire bra and the band of my pants so when I sit down I have to be real careful. It started a few days after I was banded and has slowly gotten better it has been about six weeks now and I just have to watch if I bend over when I am sitting. My Dr. said it was normal it is just the port, and should get better with time. Sometimes I have to undue my pants.Lol That may be the same thing going on with you. ~~~Stephanie

I have read some other post of people experiencing dizziness post-op, seems to usually have to do with the lack of food and it normally gets better after you start eating more. That's not to say that is your problem though it is always good to discuss stuff like this with your dr. especially if it keeps up. You could also try over the counter medicine called Dramamine get the one that contains meclazine(sp?). It is good for dizziness, vertigo. and sea sickness. But like I said talk to your Doc if it keeps up. ~~~Stephanie
