I just started walking a week ago,I walk with my husband, and I walk first thing in the morning. I live in Texas and I know it will eventually be really hot during the day and even into the evening so I thought I'd just get use to the morning. My husband is a runner, or I should say was a runner, he hurt his back in the military and can't run. He is able to keep me at a good pace,I'd walk a lot slower without him, but it looks like I might loose my buddy his back is already acting up. They told him after the surgery it would be good to walk, but it is not looking that way. The pain is shooting down his leg, and of course he doesn't want to let me down and keeps saying that he can do this. He is so hard headed, but I love him. I'll just have to sneak out while he is sleeping.

Back to work/school after surgery?
stept04 replied to rbmk14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took off summer 1 for my lap-band being that I have no idea what to expect. It seems that most people can go back to work in a week, and be just fine. For me it was not that part of recovery I was worried about. It was getting use to the different way of eating. Making sure I knew how my body and I was going to react to the band, and I did not know if my school schedule would work with my eating schedule while I was getting adjusted. Being that I have to learn how to eat and what I can eat I thought it best, since I was able to take off at least summer 1, and go back summer 2 once I got use to what I was going to be doing. Because I figure I needed to schedule my classes around when I needed to eat so I have enough time and don't have to rush. Things like that, and things I don't know yet. Good luck with your decision and your new journey. -
Suggestions for liquid and how to add protein?
stept04 replied to Singer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is an immersion blender? Sorry, I feel so stupid:) -
Just in case the Miralax doesn't work a back up could be magnesium citrate (sp?)It's a liquid you can get it flavored or unflavored and mix it. You can also take different amounts depending on your needs. I'd use the Miralax first, but if all else fails the magnesium citrate will do the job.

Well I'm not banded yet. But I've read walk, walk, walk, and walk some more. Also gas-x may help it seems to help some, others not so much. The gas is in your abdomen not your intestinal track so they say you have to keep moving to work it into your bloodstream and organs to get it out. You can also use a heating pad that seems to help a lot of people. Good luck and congrats on your new band.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Having two children of my own I can only imagine the emotional pain that would come with that. I'd give yourself a stay on yesterday, it would have been hard. You can get right back on track today and that's the good thing about how this works. That's what I had to tell myself because my son decided to take me to Ihop for Mothers Day plus to have one last oorah before I get banded. I did not really want to do it but I did not want to hurt his feelings either, so I did. It was good but I hated myself at the same time. I've just decided all I can do is start over today. Good luck and God bless

Are blog postings listed on the main page for everyone to read?
stept04 replied to cat whisperer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not know you could make it private. I've always been a bit apprehensive about using it because I thought everyone could read it. Good to know. Thanks -
Getting a stomach bug, need advice about vomiting.
stept04 replied to kileybug34's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would either buy something for neasea (sp?)over the counter or call your Dr. for something if your really afraid of throwing up. I've not been banded yet, but I know throwing up is not a good thing with the band. So I think your Dr. would be willing to help if the OTC meds do not work. Good kuck -
I'm in your shoes. My biggest fear is that this will not work for me, just like everything else. There is a lot of money involved even with insurance. But there is a little voice in the back of my head that just keeps saying what if,what if it works, it works for so many. I know I'll always wish I would have done it while I have the chance,so I'm going through with it. I figure as long as everything works out and nothing gets in the way then it's in gods hands. Have to say though I'm still scared but excited too. Good luck with your decision.

Yea the blogs are for everyone to read. if you did not say anything to her and only read the post it must be a mistake. I would say PM her and ask but I think if your blocked you can't do that either. She could be blocking everybody who knows. You could sent out a main post with her name on it, if you wanted to and ask her. If it is really bothering you that is. Good luck -
I use Bariactric Advantage it is online I get the Bariactric Advantage meal replacement shakes, vanilla taste good they have chocolate too. For regular protein shakes, they carry Nectar which is like a juice ( you add water ) they have a variety of flavors and they have vanilla and chocolate you can add skim milk to. But I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses, there are a lot of them out there.

First off I have psoriasis and I take Enbrel for it. I have sensitive skin and tend to get cyst pretty easy too. I was just wondering if anyone has these same issues and has the band? I just wondered if you have sensitive skin or other issues does the same thing go on inside. If my skin gets irritated I can have a flare. So, then would the band have a better chance of irritating me? I was also concerned that I might get a cyst under the band or around the port. I'm going to talk to my Dr. I see him next week for pre-op. Just wondered if anyone has the band and these issues also, and how has it worked out so far for them? Thanks
-
Thanks so much mis73
-
Yea. I'll let you know. I'm on Enbrel but the Dr. said not to worry about it I don't have to stop taking it.

Does anybody know how do report someone who private chatted me and was soliciting for money through a so called church they work for? Or is there nothing you can do but ignore it I do have an email they left me with. Otherwise beware they may do this to more people.
-
Thanks yall, I took care of it. Alex knows now.
-
LOL no I just thought I was suppose to report stuff like that. They were here online for a while but they have since left. Probably just someone goofing around. I'll just ignore it unless it was to turn into harassment. Thanks

So sorry to hear your having all these problems with your port. I can not give you any words of wisdom I have not even been banded yet,but I'm sure you will hear from some people because I've read post about other people having similar issues. Just wanted to give you some acknowledgement and tell you I hope that they get it all fixed for you and you can get back on track. Good luck

Thanks for the well wishes.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery
stept04 replied to TheCurvyMermaid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yea I have Hypothyroidism but the medicine although it fixed my numbers never fixed my weight I did not lose anything. I did not lose anything sleeping with my c-pap either, more energy though. I'm going to get the book, thanks for sharing. When I get banded I'm going to go by what my Dr. says, but if I stay stuck, which I'm afraid of. I'll use the books advice. I also bought one mis73 posted about it was called Choose to lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle solution she says she uses it when she hits a plateau. So, I'll have both of these in my little bag of tricks. Hopefully I'll be able to lose like other people. I'm 47 though and I think my metabolism is shot. Good luck with you. Will see how things go. -
Welcome, you will find a great deal of support and help through your journey here. I have learned a lot from everybody here. They always answer my post and you can look up just about anything on here and find it. I joined about a month or so ago, to be honest I can't really remember when, it has gone by so fast. My surgery is the 28th of May and this sight has really helped prepare me. So, glad your here and hope everything works out well for you and you enjoy this site as much as I do. Good luck
-
Congrats to you. I know it must be an awesome feeling. Good luck on your journey.
-
I don't think it should be a problem. I knew someone on methadone who was able to get her WLS. I would just be honest about why your on it, maybe get a note from the Dr. who put you on it. Good luck

Was it hard when you first started? I started Tuesday by walking around the block it took 10 min, and I walked at a brisk pace. I can do it but I can't imagine even doing 1/2 mile right now. How far did you start out walking? You look great and good job by the way.

I was reading this thread and ran across your post about jump starting your metabolism. I was just wondering how it worked. Did you notice a difference? I have sleep apnea and it took a while before I could get used to it. For me it was finding the right mask. Anyway I get banded on the 28th of May and have been doing high protein low carbs at 1200 calories and can't seem to lose. I'm afraid I'll get the band and be in the same boat so I was going to try what your dietitian suggested. Thanks
