    Allergy/Sinus relief

Are you not using Sudafed because of your high BP? I'm on BP meds and still take Sudafed when needed. They are very small pills so no worries about getting stuck. I also take Zyrtec nightly. Can't really think of anything else that will help. Hope you start feeling better soon. The mucous from allergies might make you "tight" so be ready for that.
  2. Here is part of a post from a veteran bandster: 6. The band is tighter for most in the mornings, when you lie down this cause it to tighten further, something about how the saline moves around in the band which causes it to get tighter when you lie down. That makes sense...

    Pain in chest after swallowing

I've had days where I feel a lump or a swollen feeling in my stoma. If it happens in the morning it will continue the entire day. I haven't had any PB episodes so I think it's from taking too big of a bite and irritating my stoma. I did try liquid ibuprofen once and I think it helped a bit with the swelling.
  4. I'm glad to see your post. I've been meaning to start a topic similar to this. I feel almost immediate tightness (in the form of a lump feeling in the middle of my chest) every time I lay on my back on the couch to watch tv. I try to avoid it whenever I can now. I don't really sleep on my back because it hurts my lower back too much. I'm assuming I would have the same feeling if I did sleep on my back. I have no idea what could cause this. Is it maybe causing the diaphragm to push on the band? I'm going to ask my NP next time I go in for a fill, but I don't plan on getting one for awhile.
  5. Yesterday I had pain/discomfort in the middle of my back between my shoulder blades (the area where I know my band is located). Could this be band related or possibly an effect of a stressful week at work? I'm hoping it's just stress related.

    back pain

Is that the area of the gallbladder? I always thought gallbladder pain would be in the lower abdomen. It really surprised me when the LB office showed me a barium swallow xray of the position of the band. I didn't realize the stomach/stoma was so high in the body (above the underwire bra in the xray). Thanks ladies!

    Help

I didn't get HB right after surgery, but I did after one of my fills. I've had 2 fills since then with no HB. It's the strangest thing. I took Zantac and it worked pretty well. I've heard some people say they actually started getting HB after the band and are on a daily prilosec regime (and the doctor is ok with that). Give it time and it might go away.

    Burpees

I would say try first and if you don't have trouble then keep it up. Pain will probably depend on where your port is located. My is right at my waist band and it hurts every time I squat down or bend over. NP says it's because of my port position.
  12. drehn88

    my port hurts

I'm 4.5 months out and I have port pains often. My NP says that's normal since it is attached to my ab muscle and located at my waist. Every time I bend or use my core (which is often) I can feel my port. It's not always pain, but it's a sensation that I KNOW it's there. Hang in there!
  13. I started getting HB after my first fill. I thought it was from coffee and chocolate so I avoided those foods and/or took Zantac which works great. After my second fill I haven't had HB again and I drink coffee (not daily) and have chocolate occasionally. The band is so fickle sometimes.

    How long on liquid?

My NP says 2 days mushies.
  15. drehn88

    Greek yogurt

I eat nonfat plain greek yogurt with MIO flavoring and a tbsp of granola (keep the granola out if you are in mushy stage). I don't like yogurt, but I love this.

    Pouch Question

There are videos on youtube from Dr. O'Brien called the Eight Golden Rules. They are on LBT somewhere but I can't find them right now. All the videos are a must watch in my opinion. Dr. O'Brien is a leading surgeon in lapband. In my opinion, and others, LB patients don't have a "pouch". If you've ever done a barium swallow you will see that we don't have a pouch above the band. If you create a pouch that's called dilation and the beginning of a lot of LB problems.

    5 day pouch test?

The best thing to do is google it. There will be directions on how to do it and what it's for.

    strange intolerance now

I started getting heart burn for the first time after my first fill. I stayed away from the foods that I thought were causing it. Then after my 2nd fill I haven't gotten HB since, even when I eat those foods (chocolate and coffee). Very odd!

    Can anyone have bread?

Dense breads like sourdough, flour tortillas, and bread sticks from Olive Garden are the devil. Toasted breads go down just fine. Once you are on normal foods just take it slow and find out what your band will tolerate.

    Carbonated Drinks??

I'm 4 months out too. I've tried coke zero twice. The first time was a bad experience. It burned my throat every time I took a drink so I maybe had 5 drinks and ended up with heartburn the next day (not sure if it was related). The second time just a few days ago it didn't burn like before, but after about 5 drinks I started to feel "full" and thought maybe that was the carbonation causing gas build up so I stopped. I figure you can "teach" your band to handle soda again, but I don't think I really want to do that. Better off without the stuff or drinking it rarely.

    Bathroom probs

I think most people have that problem especially in the beginning (there are a lot of posts on this subject). Miralax is good for upkeep, but takes about 3-5 days to work. Dulcolax suppositories will get things working within 30 minutes. Make sure you are home!

    Tylenol

I've only used liquid tylenol since being banded. It is absolutely disgusting! Reminds me of that horrible cherry medicine as a kid. Sometimes I just put up with the headache to avoid taking it. Not being able to take all meds/vitamins in pill form has been the hardest part of being banded for me.
  23. drehn88

    barium swallow

It tastes like Milk of Magnesia. I had a barium swallow one time when I was experiencing heart burn and it made the heart burn go away!

    New band; diet concerns

Are you in the mushy stage? Eggs were on my mushy list so you did ok with that. I would avoid the toast right now. Eat an extra egg if you're hungry. You will be in "bandster hell" until you get the right fill amount. You will most likely be able to everything so be very careful not to fall back into bad habits. At this point it's just another diet. Yes, that stinks, but before you know it you will be in the green zone and then it won't feel like a diet. Good luck!

    Still cant eat

I get that too. Baby your band with liquids and mushies until it feels better. Should only last for a day or two. If it lasts longer call your doctor.
