    Day 1 post Op

Oh yeah!! I started getting hungry 6 days post op. Now I'm 10 days, on mushy foods, and find myself getting hungry still. I'm hoping when "real" foods start in a few days the hunger will go away. I'm a picky eater so it's hard for me to find mushy foods that I like.
  2. I don't like Letterman, but that was pretty funny.

    CHEATER!

I don't really have any advice other than for me it was 100 percent mental determination. You only messed up one day. Get back on the wagon and stay there. Trust me, the pre diet is to help you mentally get ready for the post op diet. BTW, are you liquids only on your pre op diet? I was lucky enough to have high protein low carb.
  4. I was upstairs in my house the first day and every other day since because that is where the comfortable recliner is. I had no problems at all. Getting up and down from the chair was a little tougher.

    Need advice

I'm 9 days post op. The first week was tough, but now that I look back on it I think it's because I didn't eat (drink) hardly anything. So, my advice is to drink your protein as much as you can.

    First one for May???

Good luck! It's rough at first, but it will be over before you know it.

    May banders!

Sorry! I don't mean to scare you. I'm on mushy food and I don't think I eat nearly enough so I get really hungry 2 hours later. I'm also not eating enough protein. Mushy protein is hard to find and I hate protein shakes. I am certain when I can eat real food (mostly protein) I will not be hungry like that anymore. Probably those who like protein shakes and pureed protein are not having the same experience as me. It's not fun to be a picky eater and newly banded.

    May banders!

I totally agree! It was a combination of not feeling hungry and not wanting to eat another protein shake the rest of my life! Believe me, though, after a week your appetite will come back with a vengeance.

    Coughing

I had to cough too and I knew how important it was. I'm a week past surgery and I didn't bust any stitches. Just hold it tight and cough!

    May Surgery Dates???

I used Unjury chicken noodle soup. Something they mention is to not heat it over 140 degrees. My friend didn't realize that and it was an epic fail. The powder clumped up and it looked nasty. Not sure if other non flavored powder is the same way, but if it doesn't completely melt it may be because the broth is too hot.

    May Surgery Dates???

Did your doctor prescribe you anti nausea medicine? If he did, have that ready! Any sudden moves or curves and your stomach will do flip flops. Best of luck to you and anyone else get banded tomorrow! I'll be honest, the first few days of recovery are rough. But like everyone says, it definitely gets better. Now that I'm on mushy foods I'm starving in between meals. I'll take that as a good sign I'm healing well.

    May banders!

Good luck on the 15th!! I had my surgery last Monday and I feel pretty close to human today. Take your time during recovery and everything will be great.

Thanks for the laugh! I needed that!

    May Surgery Dates???

I don't think they pumped me with a lot of fluids. The IV wasn't hooked up for long. I did gain 4 lbs the day of surgery though. I'm assuming that was water retention. I went to the bathroom A LOT 2 days post op and now my wrists and ankles are "skinny" again. Hope it won't be too bad for you.

    Gas pain!!!

I feel your pain! I'm 5 days post op and still have gas trapped in my chest. At least that's what I think it is. When I sit up I feel a dull pain in my chest like a gas bubble is moving up then it goes away, then it comes back. It also happens when I drink sometimes. After reading lots of posts the only real cure is to walk, walk, walk. I hear it can take 2 to 3 weeks until the gas is gone. Hope you start feeling better soon.

    Banded yesterday!

Walk a lot. Swing your arms while walking. Someone told to me to flap my arms like a chicken. I do...when no one is looking. Good luck!

    Banded on May 9, 2013

Could it be from not eating carbs for the past so many weeks? I know when I did Atkins I would get leg cramps a lot. I think it's because you are low in potassium. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    First one for May???

That sounds exactly like the pre op diet I had. I'll be honest though...the second week I went straight Atkins (less than 20 grams of carbs) because I didn't want to drink another protein shake knowing I would have to after surgery. I lost 12 lbs pre op so I think it was ok. Good luck!
  22. I was banded on Monday and my post op experience is probably somewhere in the middle of good and horrible. The abdominal pain the first few days was probably a level 6/7, but only when I moved around. Gas pain in shoulder is a level 8, but a heating pad really works quickly (for me). I think I over did it today cleaning the litter boxes. I felt a sharp pain, probably a 10, near my biggest incision. It finally subsided. Hopefully I didn't pull an inside stitch. I've been following a lot of recent banders and we are all experiencing recovery differently. Don't let what you read scare you. I think being fully informed of all that could happen is the best thing for you right now. And BTW, I don't regret having the surgery even with the pain. Every day gets better. Good luck!!

    May banders!

Thanks! I needed to hear that!

    Just don't feel good

I agree with the others. It really sounds like carb withdraw. If you ever read anything about Atkins they say you need make sure you're getting enough sodium during a low carb diet. That can really affect how you feel. If you log your food into my fitness pal it can give you sodium counts. Atkins even says to add a teaspoon of salt to your meals to make sure you get enough (I think it's 2500 mg for women, 1500 if you have high blood pressure). Enjoy your meat and veggies. I'm on liquids until Tuesday and finally have an appetite since surgery on Monday. I would kill for some meat!

    May banders!

Don't feel bad for feeling that way! I don't like to admit it, but I've been pretty miserable since surgery. I have moments of good, but then I sit up or move and I'm reminded of my ab and gas pain. I'm really dreading going back to work on Monday. I have zero energy and honestly I'm afraid to eat too much because it still makes me nauseous sometimes. I've read other forums where people had a hard recovery time, but now they are doing great. I'm sure that will be the same for us! For those not banded yet...I hope I'm not discouraging you. I've never had surgery before so I was oblivious to how I would feel. I'm sure it's not nearly as bad as other WLS. I think there are best case and worst case scenarios. To me, all are better than being fat and unhealthy.
