Day 2 and feeling dizzy and Nauseous
drehn88 replied to 07hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is totally normal. My second and third day were the worst. Take your pain meds as prescribed and if you have nausea medicine take that at the first sign of nausea. You will feel better soon. -
Tried to do too much too soon

I would think heat since it encourages healing. -
Update since Surgery on 5/14/13...any suggestions appreciated!

Depending on your unflavored protein powder you could add it to crystal light and water. I used Unjury and it tasted pretty decent. -
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.

Learning About Moderation
drehn88 replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me tonight out for dinner. My husband and son ate SO MUCH! I told my husband I can't believe how much they ate AND that I used to eat that much too. Now I know exactly what got me to 250 lbs! -

There is a recipe forum on LBT. There are a lot of really good low carb recipes. -
What of my favorite foods can I still eat?

I can't find you on pinterest. Do I search for pinners or boards? I would love to see what recipes you've pinned. -
I ate baked fish and a small baked potato with butter about 9 days post op. Just like you I didn't feel full but very satisfied. I'm on "real" foods starting today and I continue to have the same feeling. It's amazing to me and I love it.

I have a million dumb questions
drehn88 replied to colorado_chick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had never had surgery either so it was a rude awaking. Here is my advice: Make sure your surgeon gives you a script for nausea. If you get nauseous you will be happy to have the meds. You will probably feel pain and heaviness in your chest when you wake up in recovery. For me this lasted until I could sit up and then eventually walk in the hospital (about 30-60 mins until you're out of recovery). Ask for ice chips right away when you wake up because your throat will be very dry and hard to swallow. Your abdominal muscles will probably hurt really bad especially when you sit or get up from sitting. This will go away in about a week so it's nothing to worry about. Hold your stomach with a pillow in front for the first few days when getting up. Don't worry about not wanting eat. Just make sure you are drinking enough Water the first few days. Good luck! It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. -
That just made me think of a new topic. For those of you post surgery....When do you go for your first doctor's appointment? Are you going to have a fill?
-
Someone on a previous post, who had my same surgeon, said he puts fluid in the band at surgery too. I, of course, forgot to ask, but I'm sure he did it in mine too. That's probably why I don't feel hungry in the morning or between meals (which is VERY uncommon for me). I don't think I'll get a fill at my follow up appointment in a week. Why mess with a good thing, right?!

Looks tasty! I'm going to try it.

My post op instructions said no baths, hot tubs, or swimming for one week. I think that's a little soon, but it's doctor's orders. BTW, I work for a school and have summers off, but scheduled my surgery in May so I could swim/lay out all summer long! Priorities! LOL
-
My surgeon said first week liquids, second mushy foods, then third "real" food. Hopefully your doctor gave you instructions too. Good luck!
-
Thanks everyone. I will call the surgeon in the morning.

You look amazing (my May 6 banding buddy)!! -
Cat Whisperer...I am so sorry that happened to you! I'm glad you are doing well now and you will feel great soon. I think we can all be honest on this thread so don't hesitate to let us know exactly how you are feeling anytime!

I was banded 12 days ago and my port side is still pretty tender some times. I hear they stitch it to your abdominal muscles so I'm sure every time we move it gets irritated especially right after surgery. It will get better soon.

Just be careful to chew the cheese as much as you can so it doesn't get stuck. Newbies like us need to be very careful. I read all about people's stuck episodes and it scares me to death!

Is Won Ton soup broth bad?
drehn88 replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think most soup broth is high in sodium. At least it sure tastes high. I think you're ok. I bet it tasted good. -
I'm probably late in finding out about this amazing meal, but if you are in the mushy food stage the "lasagna bowl" is so yummy (and I'm a picky eater). Mix 1/4 c spaghetti sauce and 1/4 c cottage cheese and microwave for 20 seconds. Then sprinkle 1/4 c mozzarella cheese and a little Parmesan cheese. Microwave for another 20 seconds. I wish I would have known about this a week ago! Enjoy!

Getting banded May 30 and need some Encouragement
drehn88 replied to reneeperdue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded about 12 days ago. I'll be honest, the first 5-6 days are pretty rough. I've never had surgery before and I underestimated the abdominal pain and weakness. You've had WLS so you know what to expect. The best thing is this week I've felt great! Once I could eat mushy foods I got my strength back. I'm a little nervous to go on "real" foods next week. I'm afraid of a stuck episode, but I hear it happens to most people so I better prepare myself for it. You will do great. Just know that you will feel better sooner than later. -
Thank you for sharing your story on your blog. It was very informative. Those I know with the sleeve just LOVE their sleeve and think my band is a waste of time. It is so good to hear there are negative aspects of it.

Big time constipation 3 weeks post surgery
drehn88 replied to TomD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just my experience, but I want you to be aware so it doesn't happen to you. I took magnesium citrite (half a bottle) and ended up with the most extremely painful cramps and diarrhea the entire next day. I used it one time before and it worked fine. I don't know what happened this last time, but I will never use that again. My doctor said dulcolax suppositories will get things moving faster. Not sure if they cause cramps because I was already cramping badly.
