    Hunger Question

if you're not feeling satisfied and hungry between meals, it sounds very much like you need a fill, even if only a small one, especially since you haven't had one yet since surgery. i'm trying to remember when i had my first fill (going back 2.5 years and it's hard to remember heh) and i believe it was about eight weeks after surgery

    Hiatal Hernia

yep repaired the day of surgery. never even knew i had it. discovered during the pre-surgical routine workups. still don't know what it was doing to me because i never had any symptoms from it.

    Pregnant

my doctor left it up to me. he was going to remove it all, but i balked at it entirely. i had 3ccs removed because i getting stuck on everything around 12 weeks. i finished out the pregnancy with 3.5ccs still in the band. i gained 30-35 pounds during the pregnancy.

    Weight Gain

when i first had 3ccs removed because they were freaking about my losing 5 pounds, my weight went...wonky is the best way i can put it. i ate salads and such like i did throughout my pregnancy and my weight seemed to skyrocket no matter what i did. the good news is that towards the middle of the second trimester it stopped rising so quickly. body moderated itself because i still continued with the salads and proteins like i did in the beginning. hormones do weird things.

    Smoking

i quit cold turkey after deciding to use my stubbornness for the powers of good might have worked a little too well though. now i can't stand the smell and want to punch people when they smoke around me.

Will I ever be able to eat?

definitely doesn't sound normal. sounds like you're too tight. while breads and other doughy foods can be difficult to consume, you should be able to eat 2-3oz in one sitting, which is definitely more than a chicken nugget. speak to your surgeon asap. keeping yourself too tight can have long term complications.

    pregnant

first off, congrats! secondly, i had my first a little over a month ago after being 18 months post op with the band. the advice i'd have given myself nine months ago would be to make sure your OBGYN knows how the band works and don't just take their word for it. make sure that they really do. it will save you quite a bit of frustration down the line. enjoy your pregnancy. don't be afraid to ask questions and don't get all twitchy (personal experience) when you start seeing the numbers go up on the scale. it's not as bad as it seems. i've lost half of the weight i gained, so stressing did little to prevent the weight gain and you want to avoid stress (no kidding really hehe) when pregnant anyhow. also that whole myth of eating for two is really a myth. it's really only an extra 300 or so calories a day. make sure they set a realistic calorie intake. part of why i said make sure that your OBGYN knows how it works. there was no way under the sun i could consume a 2000 calorie daily intake and not blow up like a balloon (they only wanted me to gain 15 pounds), when my normal intake was around 900. sorry for rambling
  10. yeah i was told 15 lbs only as well. i gained 30ish :/

    breastfeeding

my doc left it up to me. said if i could eat enough to nourish me and baby, no issues. i had to do a partial unfill during the last few weeks of the first trimester. was getting stuck on everything. when i gave birth i still had 3.5CC in a 10CC band, but he would have taken it all out if i had asked. still at 3.5cc at this point.

    Why the Lapband?

honestly, no one should be convincing you that the band is right for you. you need to know that it's right for you. what works for someone else may not work for you. the band is not a "quick fix." it's merely a tool. if you look at it to be more than something to help you, the band won't help you anymore than Weight Watchers or Medifast did. it took me a year to get my head into the right space and understand that. saying that you understand and really getting it are two different things and some never do get to that point. ultimately you are still in control of what you eat like you were with diet programs. the band helps you feel satisfied longer on less intake, but you still need to make the good food choices and portion control, the eating slowly and thoroughly chewing your food; you still need to follow through with aftercare and pay attention to your body; you still need to do the exercise, long story short, you still need to work your butt off because sadly, there is no easy fix, but you can do it.

    Stuck

might be irritated. my doc says when i get stuck to go back to liquids for the day because trying to force more food no matter how soft just irritates it more when you've been stuck earlier

    breastfeeding

can you consume enough without an unfill? each person is different.
  15. i was banded back in january of 2011. just had my first in june of 2013. he was eight pounds six ounces, 20 inches long. i had half of the restriction removed so i could eat more for nutrition for the baby and so i didn't get stuck. the only complication i had was gestational diabetes and that wasn't associated with the band at all. i had the band so i'd lose weight and have a healthy pregnancy and baby, which i did. it was my fertility doctor who told me to get the surgery so reduce the risks of miscarriage.
  16. i think i may have spoken too soon. i'm not having a good day, been stuck for a while now today. likely caused by humidity, but at this point can't even keep "sliders" or liquids down. called my surgeon to see about an unfill because the heat is supposed to be like this all week. it turns out that he is closing his office and is not doing any in-patient maintenance. good to know. his "refer-to" doc is only taking names and numbers to schedule at a later point. no idea what to do at this point. now i have to find another surgeon, but i'm not sure what to do about the stuck feeling in the meantime.

    need an idea?

grilled fish, possibly salad, grilled chicken maybe
  18. do you weigh yourself every day? i only weigh myself at most once a week because weight can fluctuate a lot during the week.
  19. i'd tell myself to stop looking at before and after photos. comparing my progress to someone else's takes away the thrill and joy of the progress i'm making when i think i should be going faster or looking better than i am. it's not always helpful and it's not always inspirational, especially if i think i'm failing because i'm not keeping up where everyone else may or may not be.

    Vomit or PB???

yeah i know of some people who jokingly it call it "bandulemia" as if getting stuck is a joke or slippage is a minor inconvenience. ::shaking head:: granted while every surgeon/doctor is different, mine recommends liquids after getting stuck to help calm the irritation from throwing up. so i'd agree with guy about liquids and then mushies to progress back to solids, fill or not. edit: good progress though congrats
  21. yeah eating out is always a gamble

    August banding

it's common to be nervous. i was fine up until it was time to go under, but that was just the nerves of being put out. i get that way for any surgery, but that said, i'd do it again in a second. i do not regret having the banding done.
  23. it depends on what you define as "normal" i hate having to steam my broccoli to death to be able to eat it otherwise it gets stuck. prior to the band i used to eat a lot of raw veggies that i cannot do so now without paying the price. a lot of the healthy "normal" foods are what i miss and i haven't found a substitute for breads. toasted or not they'll get stuck. same with pancakes, waffles. same with steak. i wish i had suggestions. i'm hoping someone has some good ones that will work for me. as was stated above, each band is different, and it also depends on the person. some people can eat steak. i haven't been able to since day one of the band when i have full restriction. =/

    I am Stuck Please Help!!

two days? call your surgeon ASAP! i'd not let that go for two hours. you risk band slippage when you do.
