My weight struggle did not begin until I hit menopause at age 40. Then my thyroid stopped working and my weight went up up and away! I have tried all the programs going in the last 15 years. MediFast Take Shape for Life was the only program that worked for awhile, but unfortunately that was only temporary. I know, it is my fault - I have a love of food and not much self control. I was always a pretty good athlete, softball, hiking, swimming, basketball, even cross country through high school. I was about 2 weeks away from testing for black belt in two different martial arts when I dislocated my knee. That also happened right about menopause time. My PCP tells me that I am now morbidly obese and I will die sooner than I should if I don't get this extra weight off. I can't even walk for excercise at this time because my back and left hip hurt so much from arthritis and old injuries. I want to see my grandson grow up! I want to be able to keep up with him - he is 2 years old and my most precious friend. I want to be able to walk without pain. Our daughter, my husband and I went to the Grand Canyon this past fall. I could barely walk to the overlooks from the shuttle bus. I had so wanted to be able to hike a little bit of the rim trail. My husband is of normal weight and doesn't understand my weight loss struggle at all. I have decided to go for the Lap Band surgery as soon as my paperwork and appointments go through approval. Today is the beginning of a life long (hopefully a long life long) journey towards good health. Wish me luck!
