  1. There are a number of reasons for experiencing reflux with a band, and definitely if your band is adjusted a bit too tight is one of them.

It is excellent advice to contact your surgeon first thing in the morning, as they will be the best source for the medical advice you need to address what is happening in your case to cause the reflux.

Be very wary of anyone who offers medical advice on a forum unless they have the proper credentials to do so. It is reckless and capricious for anyone but a qualified physician to suggest to you that your band .....................

If you read correctly you see that I also said that I would go see the doctor to get an x-ray. I did suggest that she contacts her doctor. I was giving information based on my experience as well. ?????????

  2. Everyone,

I feel like the original poster above. I am at six weeks out of surgery tomorrow and I am getting my first fill tomorrow. I am nervous. I have struggled with my appetite being basically normal, my port feeling weird when I sleep, cravings from what I used to eat, struggling in general and just feeling like I'm always eating too much and the hunger takes over my brain and before I know it I've eaten a ten piece mcdonalds nuggets. Am I horrible??? For about two weeks I've really felt like I don't even have a band. A typical day for me: breakfast the 3 mini chicks at chick fil a with the hashbrowns and then for lunch I might have like 4 slices of turkey from the public deli, sliced very thin and a piece of cheese and maybe at most a half of a cup of mashed potatoes, then for dinner I might have 6 fish sticks and 1/2 a cup of green Beans and maybe a mitts applesauce. Am I doing things all wrong!?!?!? I'm seriously worried about my appointment tomorrow. Help!!!

You will not feel like you have a band for a while. Everything is going to be easy to go down until you start getting your fills. I could still eat the same foods I ate before the surgery until about my second fill. YOu just have to have willpower now to help you until you get your adjustment or as they hate for us to say feeling restriction

  3. Well' date=' it's been one week since surgery. Feel fine, no pain or soreness. A little hunger but not too bad or unbearable. Liquids going down really easy. No feeling of "being stuck". I think getting enough Water in every day will be my downfall, but I'm sure it will become habit soon and become second nature.

    Thanks for the support!![/quote']

That's great!!!! They don't want you to get stuck. If you do that means your doing something wrong. Your not getting stuck means your doing it right. I had problems with water. I drink a bottle in the morning, noon and evening and IRS been working pretty good. Add some.crystal lite to it.

  4. Yea u are right! I guess I have read south stuff on here that I am expecting the worst. This weekend I'm cooking my meals for the beginning g of the week. I was too tired to work out tonight . My only hurdle is getting this Water in.

Lol I never been stuck. I told that to the PA she said well your doing things right. I worked out last night and did some upper body workout. My arms were burning. I'm going to move up to 7 days a week. That 30 minutes 5 times a week the PA said was the bare minimum. So I'm going to kick it up she said I would see more weight loss.

  5. Hey ladies I hope all is well. I'm doing well not much weight loss but I know i'm losing inches especially in stomach (not complaining about that at all) :D . On 7/23 I got a fill(#3) which brought me up to 6.8cc and i'm finally starting to feel the restriction. I've gotten stuck A LOT at-least once a day but that's just a reminder to me to take smaller bites' date=' slow down and chew. I'm going back on the 6th i'm going to ask for .2cc and I think I should be good for a while with that. Workouts have been good 1-2hrs session but I only go on Saturdays and Sundays the workout is murder on my hair. I'm getting braids next week so I don't have an excuse anymore ;). Also after this last fill I noticed that i'm really tight when my cycle starts so going forward I will do liquids and really soft foods during the 1st couple of days. And it looks like i'm tight in the AM also I get hungry around 10-10:30. I'm excited b/c I think I might be departing the band-er hell phase...lol I'm praying that the pounds start falling out. And i'm praying for all of you stay encouraged and focus. ~Cia~[/quote']

Good to hear from you. That's me I get hungry about that same time. The other day I ate at 9am and didn't get hungry again until 2pm. Glad to see your doing well.

  6. Today is not good! For some reason I was starving this evening ! My hunger is staying away for at least 3 hours but everything is going down! I can't wait for this fill. Think I waited too long to eat. I gotta go work out tonight !

My stuff always go down easy. You ever thought you might just be eating right? I have yet to get stuck and that's what they don't want. Didn't you have a fill last week?

  7. Happy Saturday!!! How is everyone feeling? Let us know how you are doing? I'm here to support because I know I need it... What's working what's not working?

I have to get my menus together to make sure I'm getting my Protein in. Thats one struggle. Pretty much keeping low carb some. But I'm working out everyday and loving it. For the last 2 days after my fill I noticed I was full and it lasted for like 4 hours. I'm on mushies today. I've been doing my fitness pal and staying under my 1000 calories especially with the exercise.

I would love for us to do a meet and greet for all of the Houston Bandsters. I would like for us to do something that we couldn't do before the band (hiking' date='zipling, swimming, shopping, etc) . Ideas are welcomed. Whose interested ?[/quote']

I'm in just let me know when. Only thing I didn't do before the band out of the things you mentioned is zipling.

  8. Awwww your sweet ;) this weight loss thing is hard isn't it? I had a fill today. I'm pretty sure its my last one. I think its my 6th fill. I've lost 24 lbs.......in 7 months! Ha! Yea. My hunger is really dwindling. I don't even feel.like snacking right now and I always feel like snacking in the evenings. I'm hoping I'm in the green zone. We'll see.....

Its not hard as I thought it was going to be. My thing is when I do start to get hungry I turn into the incredible hulk lol I'm afraid I would over eat but I still can't eat a lot and stop when the hunger pain.go away. I been 270 for t years and looking at the scale seeing 250/252 I'm like wowsers. Lol I go for second fill Wednesday. I know I'm not close to the green zone but we shall see.

  9. I don't think she was suggesting your stupid. She's trying to tell you that losing 7lbs in that amount of time means you are still losing weight. For me' date=' I was losing 4 pounds a month until my 5th fill and now I'm losing about 7lbs a month.[/quote']

Thanks for your input. 7 in a month is good. My previous response to mis I meant that in a humorist way. I should of out the lol afterwards. I'm still learning being I'm only 7 weeks post op. Mis I didn't mean that in a mean way. Hope you didnt take it that way.

  10. You have to think of it in the simplest way possible: Weight loss come from consuming less calories than you burn. The band itself doesn't cause weight loss. It's just a band around your stomach- really no different than a Bracelet on your wrist. What the band does is control your hunger and allows you to be satisfied on much longer periods of time on much less food. When your hunger is controlled you eat less food. When you eat less food' date=' you lose weight.

You said you lost 9 pounds since the 17th, do you mean of this month? If so, that was only 7 days ago. How is it you think you've "stopped" losing when losing 9 pounds in 7 days? The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week- not per day.

Here's a really great link that I think will help to better understand the band considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

    Best wishes.

I know one does not lose 1-2 lbs a day. I'm not stupid. Yes when I went to doctor on the 17th of July I weighed 258 and when I went for my well woman check up I weighed 251 the following Monday. That was this pass Monday. My math was off lol so that's 7 lbs. I weighed myself at home and on a friend's scale to make sure that it wasn't a mistake and the numbers were accurate. I work with my band and work my tail off every day burning over 600 calories twice a day and take In less than that when I eat. Yes I stopped losing weight because I am still 251 on the scale since last Monday. That's how I know I've stopped losing.

  12. That's crazy to me. I got my first fill no numbing medicine and it didn't hurt not one bit. The numbing medicine would sting like heck and it is worst. Now unless your port is deep and they have to dig I can understand but if ones pot is right there and in plain view it doesn't hurt

  13. Ok Guys and Girls, I have another question. I realize I must asked until I really become seasoned like most of you on the banding and fills lol. I lost 9 lbs since the 17th when I got my first fill and stopped. So does it work like that? you get fills weight loss start and when it stops it times for another fill until you hit your green zone? That's what I am getting. Can any of the seasoned bandsters respond and let me know? When I went on the 17th I was only able to get .5cc which I think is nothing I am going back on Wednesday to see if my stomach will allow a little more.

  14. I am going to the true results out my memorial city for a fill on Wednesday. There you can get an appointment every two weeks if you need it versus going to the office on south main. If everything works out I may just continue getting my fills out there. I lost 9 lbs since the 17th when I got my first fill and stopped. So does it work like that you get fills weight loss start and when it stops it times for another fill until you hit your green zone? That's what I am getting. Can any of the seasoned bandsters respond and let me know? Thanks I am also going to post this in the main forum to see if I can get a fast response. lol

  15. Girl yes' date=' that was me. They could only fill me a little at a time. That's why it has taken me so long to lose but I consider it as a good thing because now the weight will stay off and I won't be subject to gaining like I have in the past. As long as you are feeling restriction, you will be fine. :)[/quote']

Ok thanks for that input. I'm ok with losing slow as long as I lose. Even though things are going down easy still I still can eat only a little and be satisfied.

  16. I felt the green zone at a very small fill amount (around 4cc) so it's possible that you're close. As you lose with the band, internal fat around the organs goes away too. This is why in the beginning you visit the Dr so often and how you can feel in the zone for a while but then the feeling goes away again. As you lose more weight, fills wont be needed nearly as frequently. I believe I had a total of four fills before I only went back to my team for the required visits with the psych, physical therapist, and nutritionist. I have seen my surgeon a few times in the last six to eight months, most recently to have Fluid removed because my allergies were causing major tightness.

OK thanks for the info. I have another appointment for 4 weeks but they said if I feel the need I can come back in 2 weeks so I think that's what I might do but as of now I still eat three times a day and a cup full of food. However, I do have some yellow zone tendencies like looking for food but I do not eat once I stop and think "hey im not hungry" lol

  17. Doctor's office is right. Fills can cause some additional irritation to the stomach lining causing some swelling for a few days causing you to be tight. Let it go for a few days and then check back.

OK Thanks for your input. I was nervous thinking oh my is this all I am going to ever get.

  18. I had my fill Wednesday and could only get .5 cc which put m at 3.5. She tried to get me up to 5cc but it was to tight and when I drank the Water I can feel it gurgling in my chest. Now everything is still going down easy again ! ! ! ! ! I am not hungry though as much and sticking to the 3 times a day meal and only a cup full. The PA said that some people in the start stomach get irritated with fills causing them to get a little at a time. Any of the old bandsters had this problem? Let a sista know LOL ! !
