    New band; diet concerns

Yes Terry, I am feeling quite STUPID this morning! Lol! Unfortunately, I am fat, therefore, I think like a fat person. I am in the mushie stage and I know that the band is not a warden. I just expected eating to feel different, and it doesn't. It feels the same as before I was banded. I think I expected that I wouldn't WANT to eat, as I have heard from several people that I know who have been banded that the desire to eat was much less after banding. Not so for me so far. I am going to mark the toast as a little backslide and get back on track. Thanks so much for the posts! :-)
  2. Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to this forum but have read almost every post! Everyone is so helpful with advise and experience. I'm hoping you guys can give me some direction and encouragement. I am 12 days post op and this morning I had a scrambled egg and 1/2 a piece of whole wheat toast!!!! Is that ok??? I am freaking out that the band isn't going to work for me because I am able to eat things I shouldn't!!! I'm already 17 lbs down, but every day eating becomes easier! I don't want to fail, but it's really hard not to try new things when I've had no problems at all. I don't get a fill until October 9th. I would appreciate any thoughts, advise or chastising that anyone has to offer! :-)

    Two week anniversary

Today is day 10 for me. My diet is moving along fine...even had a piece of fish last night! Down 15 pounds and that feels good. The only problem I'm having is soooo much pain at my port site. I'm a nurse and I go back to work Monday. I'm scared about how that is going to work because I have so much pain still. I was just wondering if this is a common problem?

    pain when I cough?

Congratulations! I just got my band on Tuesday. Use a pillow and hold it tightly across your abdomen when you cough, get up and down etc. that will help. As far as the stabbing sensation, that is probably trapped air. The best way to rid your body if that is to move, move, move! And take your pain medication. They give it to us for a reason. Good luck!

    Aetna

Thanks! I have read the claus set forth by my employer and I didn't see anything about 3 years of maintaining that bmi, also, I only have 4 months to wait. I know several people at my job who have been approved. Jeeez! This is so very nervewracking!!!

    Aetna

Has anyone on here delt with Aetna Insurance? They require a bmi of 35 and 2 comorbidities. I have 3 of the major comorbidities but my bmi is only 35.3. I have had my first appointment with the surgeon, first nutrition consult and my psych eval is next week. I am very nervous about approval. Any input would be much appreciated!

    Just starting out

Thanks! Much appreciated! I feel so scared and nervous...it will be a miserable four months if i can't let it go. :-)
  8. I have been reading everyone's posts for several weeks. I finally had my first appointment today. It makes me very nervous that I could spend the next 4 months jumping through hoops and spending money only to be denied by my insurance company! I am right on the border as far as BMI, but I have high BP, diabetes, and heart disease. Surely they will approve me!
