    United Healthcare

I have United Health, but the bariatric approvals are handle through Optum Health! (RR retirement insurance plan.) I went through the hoops (pysch. evaluation, dietitian visits, etc.) but was denied because they wanted a full six months of dietitian visits! My first meeting with the surgeon was in February, and I wasn't able to get into surgery until December.

    First Fill Tomorrow

It will feel like a pinch, but it isn't that bad, and I hate needles!!! The entire procedure takes about ten seconds. Don't expect to see too much difference after the first fill. It took four fills before I was even convinced that there was a band inside of me, LOL! Good luck with your lapband!

    Treadmill VS Elliptical

Here's some free advice, for what it is worth, from a guy who had a Nordic Track sitting unused for several years in a spare room... Join a heath club or gym. Seriously... a good machine will set you back a few grand. My health club membership at a local franchise is only ten bucks per month. They have FREE trainers who will show you how to use each machine, and help you achieve your goals. Go each day and use the elliptical, bikes and treadmills. After several months you'll will have achieved several major goals: 1: if you went to the gym regularly, you LOST weight, and you are healthier. 2: you have a good idea what machines work the best for YOU, and which ones you are willing to commit to working out on. 3: you may have saved a ton of money by not buying a "Mistake," and you may find that the health club route is the better alternative in the long run.

    worried

I had my surgery in December (4 mos. ago) and I just had my fourth fill. I was getting very discouraged, since I also felt the band wasn't doing anything, and I wondered if it was really there After the fourth fill I found I was starting to feel satiated after eating a few bites of food, and I also had to slow down, eat slowly, and chew properly. A small Wake-Up wrap from Dunkin Donuts will give me a full feeling between lunch and dinner. It is a great feeling not to be hungry between meals! Right not I am doing around 70 grams of Protein a day, and keeping the calories under 1100. Lots of yogurt and chicken!

    Let's be honest about exercise

I lost 60 pounds walking my old Lab Retriever back in 2002. I was over 360 pounds, and she was getting big around the middle as well!!! LOL! We both started walking in February... by the end of the summer we were walking for two hours a day through the farm fields and trails through the woods. Unfortunately, my old lab passed away, and my walking regime went by the wayside and I've been going between my old weight and down to maybe 340 during the summer. I just had the lab band last December (2013) and my latest fill has finally show the results that expect from the band. I just joined a local healthclub, and I am using the treadmills 60 minutes a day.. so far six pounds lost in six days! And I rescued another black lab puppy to share walks with!! Labs are great walking buddies!
