woman has lapband removed so she can eat...
labwalker replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in Rants & Raves
Too bad all that time, money and skill were wasted on her... and there are so many people who desperately want the surgery, but just can't afford it. -
Mr. Doctor warned me that the effects of drinking alcohol would be much more pronounced after the lap band surgery... apparently the alcohol gets into the system faster for some reason? He also said empty calories, avoid it... but we are all human and I think everyone cheats on occasion.

Just recently (past few weeks) I haven't been able to enjoy my morning coffee. One or two sips, and I end up tossing the rest. I was curious if anyone has developed an aversion to coffee or other favorite foods two or three months after being banded?

No prescription pain meds post op?
labwalker replied to Decemberbee45's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquid Hydrocodone when I was sent home. Only used it twice... the pain wasn't that bad. I was sore, but the pain was tolerable. Worst part was the soreness of the larger incision when I moved around in bed. Good luck to you! -
I've used fitday.com since 2002.

Wow! I wonder if taking a statin is causing my slow weight loss? Dieting and exercise aren't moving the scale down as fast I had hoped. I did a quick search and found this: http://www.livestrong.com/article/489801-weight-loss-after-stopping-statins/

banded this morning
labwalker replied to astott626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes a few days for all of the carbon dioxide to get absorbed and expelled from your body. You'll be feeling better soon! Best of luck to you! -

Did anyone have a problem with pop/soda?
labwalker replied to leannel90's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a diet soda freak... I confess!!! I drink a lot of Waist Watcher diet soda.... sodium, carb free and I only sip it to let the carbonation subside before ingesting it. I know I should give it up, but I love the stuff. -
Congratulations! And the best of luck!

My port is about five inches above the lowest incision... doesn't seem to be moving. And it is very pronounced.

Yours may be, by mine is a good five inches above the closest incision,

labwalker replied to MsFab1988's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
MsFab.... you look fabulous! Congratulations on what you have accomplished regardless of how you have achieved such great results!!! -
Wow!!! Wonderful! I am at my fourth fill, and I am not sure that I have quite reached the Utopia that you have achieved!!! I am envious! Congratulations! Can you give us some idea of how you knew you finally reached the ideal GREEN zone?

My port is located NO WHERE near any of the five incisions I had during my surgery!! And the port location is easily felt. I can't believe some of the silly answers given so far

Postponed from April 8 to June 10
labwalker replied to big tex's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel My surgeon had told me I'd be able to have surgery within four months of initial visit; but they didn't realize that my United Heathcare insurance had to go through Optum health for approval. Instead of being banded in June, I had to go through four more dietitian visits which delayed my surgery until December. I was totally bummed out. Hang in there, your day will come. It will all be worth it once you wake up in recovery and realize you have a new life in front of you. Best of luck to you. -
2 week weight loss post op
labwalker replied to Astafford82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put on weight after my surgery date. The pre op diet is designed for rapid weight loss. My APRN told me not to worry about it. After my fourth fill I began to see some weight loss. He told me he'd be happy to see a one to 1/2 pound weight loss per week. The best thing I did was joining a gym and getting on the treadmill--that has made a difference. All of my weight loss has been in the past few weeks, three months after being banded! Best of luck to you! -
Signs that you need a fill?
labwalker replied to HYAC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you eating the recommended amount of proteins at each meal? Protein intake will help extend your time between meal periods (feeling hungry.) -
Good luck! Two things will really affect pysch evaluations Depression, and giving the impression that you are doing the procedure because you want to do it for someone else besides YOURSELF! Just remember, you are always doing this for yourself, and not to impress anyone else! Best of luck to you! The psych evals and dietitian visits are always downers!

How do you motivate yourself to exercise???
labwalker replied to sandiburn's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Wow, what a good topic! Back in 2002 I was close to what I weighed in Feb. 2013, when I went to a meeting for lapband weight loss. I was able to lose over 60 pounds (263 down to 290) over that summer by taking long, long walks with old lab retriever Midnite.... gawd, I miss that sweet dog!!! The problem is over the winters, when you can't get outside and walk. I had my last fill in March, and joined a local health club. Now, I try to do at least 45 to 60 minutes a day at the club--usually on the treadmill. When the warmer weather arrives, I'll start doing long walks with my new rescue lab... she loves long walks and I want to get back into that routine. But, a good, local heathclub will carry you through the bad months. Once you start exercising or walking, you will want to continue. And at least in my case, exercise curbs my appetite. Best of luck to you!!! -
Fought Insurance and won... the first time!
labwalker replied to kayzieb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The best of luck to you!!! It took me from February 2012 until November of the same year to get approved. I was becoming very discouraged at the delays and was ready to give up! Just remember, the surgery is the first step... it takes time after surgery to heal, and to find the right fill before you begin to lose weight! My first weight loss began after the third fill, which was done in March of 2013. It is a long journey, but worth it! -
I'd guess the humus is blocking the opening and having trouble passing through to the stomach. Some foods, like bread, will do that!

What Will It Cost Me To Get Weight Loss Surgery?
labwalker replied to Alex Brecher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery in CT. Surgery and hospital costs were around 25,000. Fills cost $250. I don't know what the pysch. eval. cost, or the six required dietitian visits. It is quite a sum of money; but thankfully my insurance covers about 96% of the costs.
