    How long did you stay in the Green Zone?

    I have had three fills so far, did pretty good after the third fill, but my weight loss is tapering off and I'm noticing that I would like to eat more at meals. I'm scheduled for a fluoroscope on Monday, and then I'll be seeing the APRN next week to find out how the band is doing. I may ask for another small fill depending on what the fluoroscope shows.

    low-cal yogurt

    Low fat Greek yogurts are good, they have a bit more protein. I don't eat the fruit, it is usually on the bottom of the cup and I leave it. Now that I amp Post op, I add my own blueberries to the yogurt.
  3. My nutritionist had a hard time turning my attention from counting calories to having enough Protein at each meal. I brought a my food logs to my APRN at my last visit. My protein intake was around 80 grams, while my calories were holding just 1000. He thought I could have more calories, but felt I was doing fine. But, it all depends on your metabolism, current weight and BMI, and the amount of physical activity in your life. Everyone has different nutritional requirements. After quickly losing 55 pounds I am noticing it is coming off a lot harder, so I'll to start getting to the gym more regularly to burn off the excess intake.
  4. It took three fills before I noticed any reduction in appetite or weight loss. Try to eat quality protein for all three meals, and then veggies or fruits if you need more. If you can keep the calories under 1200 and the protein over 60 grams you should be good until the band can take over in the future.

    Flounder recipes?

    I've been buying large bags of frozen flounder filets at costco. A few filets with some green Beans make a pretty meal with a good amount of Protein, and it fills me up without many calories. I'm looking for some cooking ideas for these fillets. They are bit thin (takes three to get near 200 calories, or 8 oz.) I'm looking for ideas on how spice the fillets--being Italian garlic is fine. Does anyone have a good seasoning suggestion?
  6. You are a much nicer and kinder person than I would have been. I admire your restraint, and I can relate to your frustration and anger. For her to insult you during a consultation visit for your daughter was both ignorant and unprofessional. Thank goodness all of my doctors have been supportive and not judgemental during my office visits. I wish both of you continued success. You didn't deserve to be subjected to such a mean and flippant attitude.

    Devastated

    Is there any chance you can go on a Cobra plan with the same insurance carrier? It is expensive, but since you have the approval it might be something to consider. The only problem is the cost of the follow up exams and fills after surgery.

    That really sucks I can only imagine how disappointed you must be. I hope it all works out for you.

    Banaster Hell???

    Fills should help... it took three before I noticed that I was feeling full after eating a modest amount of food. I also learned that eating proteins first at all meals seem to help tide me over.
  10. I started with my consultation in March of 2012, and had the surgery in December. The insurance requirements were the hold up; since I needed six months of supervised nutrition guidance to qualify. Some insurance companies are bit more lenient.

    Vomiting

    I agree, you must have fluid intake, that is very critical. It sounds like you are stuck. Many folks on here have problems with steak. Hope you are doing better.

    Bread/wraps??6weeks po

    The only food I ever had come back up (as fast as it went down!) was a breakfast wrap from Dunkin Donuts! That was a few days after my first fill, and I suspect my stomach was still recovering from the swelling induced by the fill. I can eat Dunkin Donut foods now, but I have to be very careful to eat slowly, and chew, chew, chew... I'd be very careful with wraps if you haven't tried them yet.

    N.A.S.H=Fatty Liver Disease

    I should explain a bit more... my PCP told me many years ago that I had an enlarged liver. When my surgeon did my WLS band surgery he had a great deal of difficulty placing my band due to my fatty liver... he had told me that he might do a liver biopsy on pre surgery consultation, and he ended up doing so. Post surgery he referred me to a college who does liver transplants at the group he practices with. I had him forward my biopsy results to my PCP... and I will discuss it with him before going further. Whatever... what it is is what it is. The only thing I can do is to eat wisely and to avoid certain foods. I don't a transplant specialist to tell me what I need to do.
  14. I had surgery in Connecticut. I am sure that my costs were over 30,000 dollars by the date of the surgery. My post op visits and fills were not covered in advance, and my insurance pays as I go. CT is one of the most expensive states for medical or cost of living.

    Sleep Study...

    Good luck! It is no big deal, except for the monitoring that needs to be done during the study! I must have had 1000 sticky monitoring points on me! The good news is that getting sleep apnea under treatment can help with weight loss. Untreated, sleep apnea can result in weight gain, which ends up causing more sleep apnea episodes. Treatment can break the cycle and help you lose weight. Good luck to you!

    Ever have one of those days

    I had a bad week. Hit a plateau; and actually gained back a bit... left me feeling a bit down and I found I was cheating as a "defense mechanism." I guess we all go through some bad days.

    N.A.S.H=Fatty Liver Disease

    A fatty liver can turn into cirrhosis. Once it reaches that stage, the scarring can only continue and never get better. I have a fatty liver and I was told to lose weight, exercise, and to avoid certain foods, especially alcohol. Keep with the diet and hopefully it will work out over time. I'm in the same boat, so you are not alone.

    Me, thin????

    Walking has always resulted in weight loss when I tried to lose weight in the past. I'm hoping that my treadmill activities at the local gym, combined with my lap-band surgery, will be the ticket to permanent weight loss. Walking is one of the easiest and most effective means to burn calories.
  19. 500 seems low... and at that level I would wonder what your protein intake is? I'd suggest calling the doctor's office for guidance.

    NSV - 17.1 MPH for 26 miles

    Awesome!!!! You are burning those calories off! Congrats! That is quite an achievement
  21. Stuck on yogurt? Something is not right. Your band might be too tight, and that can cause some of the problems you're experiencing. You might ask your doctor about doing a fill under fluoroscopy; that will show the band restriction and give some idea on whether you really need another fill, or an unfill.

    This is gross but.

    Not for my lapband surgery. If you have to do, you might ask your doctor for alternatives. I drank a liquid when I had my colonoscopy done several years ago.

    Morning Gas

    I've noticed that I am lot more "gassy" than preband! I've read that a high protein diet can contribute to gas. I also use a Bi-PaP machine, at a very high setting, and I never noticed that it caused problems with stomach gas before the band.
