I've been a bad CPAP wearer

sleep apnea can lead to weight lgain. And there are other serious medical issues. I use my bi-pap and never go even one night without it. I have severe SA, so it isn't optional for me. I'm to the point where I wouldn't feel comfortable without the Bi-PAP. Your pressure was on the low side. It is possible that your SA has become mild enough and you may not need to use the cpap... but that is up to your doctor. I'd guess he would order a new sleep study to see if you can either do with a less pressure, or maybe even get off the machine. Don't be afraid to see the doctor.

    A sleep study.

    Green zone calorie goal

My doctor's office has always stressed protein intake... for me, they advise 1200 calories; but they insist that I have an adequate amount of protein first at each meal.

Those last pounds won't budge :-(

I've hit plateaus where I have been at the same weight for months... what usually helps is a follow up visit with the office, and a fill if warranted. I've I had to up my time on the treadmill just recently, after a fill... that broke the last plateau. I hope it lasts.

    Friend sabotaging me?

She is sabotaging herself, and using you as an excuse. You've accepted your weight, and you've decided what is needed to start on a journey to a more healthy lifestyle, and to improve your self esteem. Your friend is in denial, and I doubt that she wants to anything for herself, and that she really doesn't care about your well being, physically or emotionally. You don't need friends like that, at least not for dining companions!
  7. I can chug a 16 oz bottle of Water with no restriction, and I thought my band was just right? I guess everyone is different.

How do you get it all in?

Can you do four meals a day, spaced out, with attention to intaking proteins first?

    unkind drs

If you lost 60 lbs in 18 mos, and KEPT it off, you are a success. No one is perfect... and everyone is not made the same, and we all aren't all-stars for rapid weight loss! Sometimes the tortoise wins the race. Losing weight is not a contest, and we aren't on a TV show... enjoy your success, and keep on the path.
  10. I can only tell you that the band is a tool. It will help you to lose weight, and too keep it off... other than that, it is not a magical weight loss solution. It takes effort, exercise and paying attention to Protein and calorie intake.

    I've gained 46 pounds in 12 days!

I don't understand why they say "it has to be the lap band." Are you tracking calorie and Protein intake? Are you eating a sensible diet? Have you been on medication for Fluid retention in the past??? A lot of things just don't add up. It takes a LOT of calories to add a pound of fat.... but fluid retention would be my first guess. Something just doesn't add up. I'd be demanding some real answers from the doctors, besides trying to blame the band... EXACTLY why they think the band is the cause would be my first question, with some sustainable science, to make the case.

    5 Years and still struggling

Just an observation, but I've seen people use food as an escape from other problems; usually related to depression or other emotional issues. That can be hard to deal with on your own. I'd at least call your doctor and talk to the staff. They might have some suggestions that would help you. Good luck, it is hard, but worth it.

Does your doctor have monthly support group meetings? Getting together with others, and comparing notes, might help with the motivation to control what you are eating.
  14. Can you get liquids down? Are you sliming?
  15. Sure glad to see you are doing better. And, talking to the anesthesiologist about the shortness of breath was extremely wise. He is more important than the surgeon when you are under.

    Incisions

Five... most scars are gone after 18 mos. Two are still noticeable. I those were the ones used for the band insertion and for the port insertion--they were more "rounded" than the other scars, which were straight line incisions.

    How often do you slime/pb?

PB is burping, not regurgitation (sorry to be gross... but we've all experienced it.) If I were having your problem, I'd try a few things. First, if there are specific foods that are causing more problems than others, I'd avoid them for a while. Next, try slowing down when eating. Take a forkful, chew slowly (thirty times) and leave your fork on the table for 30 seconds. If you can feel the food sitting on top of the band, do not continue to eat until it passes through, or you will slime! If this keeps up, I'd call your doctor's office for consultation. The band takes a bit to settle in after a fill, but it should settle in! Make sure your Fluid intake is adequate--you don't want to end up dehydrated and in ER.

Help a veteran get back in the swing of things!

My first concern is Protein... I need at least 60 to 100 grams a day according to my doctor. I choose high protein foods that have little fat or cargs--fish, turkey, chicken, etc... I weight the protein foods to keep track. Foods with carbs I'll measure with measuring cups or on a scale to keep track of how many carbs I am eating. There are some very good online food tracking programs that will show you exactly what you are eating: carbs, protein, fat and total calories. You use this information to adjust you foods to meet your nutritional needs. My NUT advised me not to worry about the quantity of the foods I eat, but to be aware of the quality of the foods I eat.
