losing sympathy and offering an apology
balbuquerque replied to gowalking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gowalking. Your apology has actually made me feel that it's ok to post concerns again. I understand your point of view but I also understand that we live in a society that promotes sabotage and literally try to push u under the bus. I have counted upto six offerings of foods people trying to feed me @ work. They say things like "oh but just one slice of cake won't hurt." I've come home and told my husband about it. AA tells their members to avoid alcoholics, parolees are prohibited from associating with other parolees. But a food addict has no escaping food environments. It's a hard situation. My coworkers will come and offer me all this poison and then say after I refuse it "oh that's right you can't eat this. " I have said a dozen times In the past month. "I can eat whatever I want, however I didn't go under a knife to eat your cake." We have to be compassionate so sometimes. Good luck to all of us. -
New to this site and disappointed
balbuquerque replied to Dana newman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow incredible the lack of compassion on here. I'm two months 12 days post op and I haven't felt myself once since, but its taboo to share such experiences. The excruciating pain finally went away but the constant other pains haven't but its scary to share. What I am certain about though is that regardless of anyone's claimed happiness with any WLS it's not anything to be happy about. It's unnatural and preventable. All these young kids doing this surgery should be considered a crime. All these parents allowing their five year olds having adult size meals should be fined or something. And I'm glad that Maui hasn't let anyone intimidate her into silence. Right now my stomach feels so weird that I gave my husband my surgeons cell number And some pertinent information, in the event something happens to me. I don't understand y all the self righteousness, when we all know that WLS is not ideal for anyone to have, and maybe just maybe the problem is in the delivery, but maybe not. -

Some people like to poke the wound :(
balbuquerque replied to Omfgmelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omfgmelly this is the best mind set ever. To have the mindset of breaking this vicious cycle. To make sure this doesn't happen to future generations, it's the best thing that can happen. With that kind of thinking we can get back on track. Our children shouldn't have to experience this unhealthy life style. I did it to children, but I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen to their children. You are on the right path that is great. -

Congrats on your baby. I love that you look so beautiful in The before picture as well as the after picture. You are just gorgeous. -
There are some WLS doctors that won't do the surgery until you quit pot. It's like sabotaging yourself until u quit altogether. God knows it was one of my favorite things to do once upon a time.

Go on a clear liquid diet for a few days then monitor your portions. No more than a cup of food. Just like in the beginning when you lost the fifty pounds. -
Anyone Have Chronic Diarrhea Long After Lap Band Surgery?
balbuquerque replied to Marianelaine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes Jackie it's all connected and there should be more awareness about it. I haven't felt myself since I got mine and its sad that people make it so difficult to talk about. -

Banded Monday... Protruding Pain??
balbuquerque replied to NYC1992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chand I had my surgery 3/21 and I had one of the slowest and most painful recoveries. then it messes with your mind because you start questioning yourself. That's a double whammy. I just started feeling better like ten days ago, I've lost 26 pounds post op, and finally can sleep on my stomach (which is huge). My suggestion is take as much time off work as you can (2 weeks) and focus on healing, plenty meds for gas, mirolax, and lots of love for yourself. Follow ALL the rules ( I did) and consult your pillow. Lots of luck on your journey. -
Feeling pretty miserable
balbuquerque replied to cda97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone today I am six weeks post op and I just started feeling better. I had so many doubts and sadness about doing this and fear and regret. I thought I'd made the worst mistake of my life. I couldn't walk from the pain sometimes and forget about sleeping on my stomach which I've done all my life. All I can say is that today I'm having a good day. Lost 26 lb post op and can eat anything I want just not as much as I use to. I never thought I'd say this but it does improve. Some of us have slower recoveries than others. Pamper yourself and as a previos post said one minute at a time. -

How do you decide?
balbuquerque replied to tess1964's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jess I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. I didn't mean to scare you but you have the right to all information pertinent. There have been a couple of lap band patients that have told me they felt everything I'm feeling for about two months post op and I'm only one post op. my husband is hoping that's my case too. Maybe it will be, maybe not but if it is, I will share it too. Best wishes for you. -
Burning sensation, pain in my stomach, burning skin, shoulder wont let up
balbuquerque posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Today makes one month post up. My stomach feels funny, won't stop sneezing, blowing my nose constantly, whenever I need to have a bowel movement my left shoulder hurts and when o sneeze also. My port area is still sore, my skin is burning and I can't close my pants. I'm unable to lay on my stomach or on my side yet. I'm going to see my doctor on the 2 nd but is this what life with the band is? I feel like I made a huge mistake. Won't stop burning and get the hiccups at least every other day. When I feel hungry my shoulder will hurt again, it's like it hurts whenever I have any physiological needs. Any feedback will be good at this point. -

Also I ate something before I got hungry. I've noticed that my shoulder starts hurting before I get hungry, or have to go to the bathroom. -
Burning sensation, pain in my stomach, burning skin, shoulder wont let up
balbuquerque replied to balbuquerque's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Today is better because I only have the burning skin and port discomfort. But when it's all at the same time I just want to cry. Last night I was in a lot of discomfort with port and skin and shoulder but I managed to fall asleep without any pain meds. thx for asking -
How do you decide?
balbuquerque replied to tess1964's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you are right let her speak to other lap band patients, that includes all patients that are willing to share their experiences. And by all means talk to the professionals in bariatrics that never have been patients and their main job is to sell the product. That's real talk. I'm sure that her original posts requesting feedback did not mean "please don't share if your experience is not rosey". This is not a debate, it is sharing, which would be deceitful and selfish of me not to enlighten someone with my knowledge of the procedure that I did not read about , I actually have it, hence makes me a patient also. Anyone going into any surgery will have a certain degree of fear and respect for the procedures. Anything less is not realistic. Making a decision with more information than not is always best. Which there's also another side which needs to be considered. Such as all of your eating habits will have to change even the not so bad ones like eating with a friend in a social setting. You have to feed yourself like you would feed a one year old for the duration of your band life. "Literally" the possibilities of you not being able to eat many foods are almost certain. Like dry vegetables, meats, and many many others. I did not even go there in my original response because I figured Anyone can steamed everything and use pressure pots for the rest of their lives , on the other hand any potential patient has the RIGHT to all pertinent information.
