Good idea or really bad habit???
jbandster replied to jbandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do have to add though....that a really bad habit I do have is spoon licking while cooking! I don't know why I have done it for so long, but I will tell you it is a hard habit to break! I'm referring to tasting things that I am cooking for my husband...things I know I'm not supposed to be eating. So many empty calories!!! I am trying very hard to catch myself before I do it. I know it is gross...but hey, if I can't confess it here...where can I? Lol. -
Don't be discouraged about the temporary gain. Everyone's body reacts differently. Follow your doctors instructions and I promise the weight will start coming off. And don't forget...depending on how recent your surgery was...that swelling occurs and will add some weight. Best of luck on your journey.

I have my first fill scheduled for April 19th. I know that after the fill, I will have to go back to liquids for a few days....but can I eat before my fill?

I am finally to the part of my post op diet where I can add in some puréed veggies! What are (or were) some of your favorites? I have read warnings to stay away from broccoli and cauliflower because they might cause excess gas etc. How about Brussel sprouts? Squash?

Favorite pureed veggies?
jbandster replied to jbandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol! I guess what I meant was favorite cooked veggies you can mash with a fork. Blended broccoli does not sound good!!! Lol. -
What did your lap band cost out of pocket?
jbandster replied to dford's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I paid $6500. Dr Alberto Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. Included hotel room for 1 night, a 2 night stay at a beautiful private hospital (not a clinic) and transportation to and from San Diego, CA. Also includes lifetime fills. -
Good idea or really bad habit???

I guess I didn't look at it like that. The act of doing it just sounded disgusting to me, but I didn't think about the underlying issues associated with it. I wish now that I could talk her out of doing it, but I think she is using it as a crutch. I will certainly stay far away from this bad habit. I have sacrificed so much to be able to get my lapband, that I am not about to throw it away by developing new bad habits! Thanks everyone! -

Great work!!!!! -
I actually had my surgery in Mexico on March 20th, but I am using Dr. Tillquist as my follow up dr. Thanks for the info. I prefer him to be straight forward and a no bs kind of guy.

I just scheduled my first fill for April 19th and I am very excited. Just wondering though...what determines how much of a fill I get? Does the doctor use their discretion, or do they usually go by a set plan? I had my surgery in Mexico, but my follow up is with a Dr. in Denver. I'm just trying to figure out how it works.
-
I'm wondering the same thing. What were the difficulties?
-
Oh I'm glad to hear that about Dr Tillquist!
-
Toomuchfun - I am going to see Dr. Tillquist...and I think he is actually in Englewood. I live in Northern NM, so coming into Denver is a little foreign for me, but my best aftercare option. Thank you catfish...I will look at the link right now.

Did you blend or strain your cream soups? I know that a lot of them have pieces of things like chicken, broccoli, mushrooms etc.
-
Mine was day 1 - 10 clear liquids, days 11 - 20 full liquids, days 21 - 30 mushies. Solid foods one at a time after the first 30 days.
-
Congrats on your success and good luck on your continued journey!
-
Yes I am excited for my first fill too. But I am trying to be as good as I can in the mean time. I have been losing pretty steadily, and staying around 800 calories. I know the temptation is strong...but you can do it!
-
And really looking forward to adding more mushies to my diet. I am supposed to wait until day 21 to add items like retried beans and eggs...and I never thought 5 days could take so long...but they are dragging. Lol.
-
Havent lost any weight on mushies
jbandster replied to d9leigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy for this thread. I'm in the same boat with no weight loss since starting mushies. Thanks for all of the supportive chatter. It keeps me motivated. And...I have learned that I probably should stay off the scale because it bums me out when I don't see a loss. -
I have been using the GNC brand whey protein chocolate caramel flavor mixed with water Nd it seems to be working for me. A lot less diarrhea then my first 9 days.
-
I'm glad I read this thread. I was wondering if I had to wait a certain amount of time before I could have sex....but it sounds like there is no real waiting period after the initial pain from the surgery subsides. This should make my husband super happy. Lol!

I used Dr. Alberto Aceves in Mexicali and I'm extremely pleased with my surgery. I am only 10 days post op, but I had the most wonderful experience with Dr. Aceves and his entire staff. The hospital was emaculate, the hospital suite I stayed in for the few days post op was very comfortable, and I was looked after by the Dr. and his team with the utmost care. I would recommend his practice to anyone looking for lapband at a great price.
