Lap Band and Pregnancy

I agree with Heather, the band will still be 'stitched' to your abdominal wall, but it will move as your body changes. I have birth 8 weeks ago. From month 7 on , the port was really pressing on my skin and by month nine it had been turned in its side, but was still attached. I knew it was only temporary and it was only a little uncomfortable ( couldn't sleep on left side, maybe a waistband touched it when bending over) , but I would not say it was painful. Now, 8 weeks later, the port is loose and the full nurse had to hold it still to make a fill ( small fill as I'm breastfeeding), but it works. The hope is that as my body resets to a new normal the port will find a new resting place. Hope this helps.

Lap Band and Pregnancy
hmc1971 replied to tamarlarae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded March 2012 and became pregnany Sept 2012. It is now June 2013 and I have an 8 week old baby girl. My port 'bothered' me months 7 on, just because my belly was so big. By month 9, my port had turned ( flipped) so it was uncomfortable but not painful. Now, 2 months postpartum my port is loose. I am back down to my pre pregnancy weight, but obviously the port was 'pushed' around with my growing uterus. It still moved. At this point I'm not interested in more surgery to re-attach. I plan to loose more weight ( modified band diet as I'm breastfeeding) as well as re-assess in a year based on my body getting back to it's post pregnancy state. Not sure if I've helped , but port site was not painful. I guess my point is that anything can happen , you just assess as you go on. I'd like to suggest your health for you and eventually having a healthy baby might be worth a little discomfort. It is for me. Best of luck. -
Let me be the first to congratulate you. Fabulous work. Hope to join you soon!

Congrats to you. My band baby also arrived on April 26th ( scheduled c-section) 8 lbs, 12 oz - a little girl. Busy with breastfeeding so have been advised to forget about fills until 6 mos. just trying to eat well, when I can.

24 weeks preggo port is sticking out.
hmc1971 replied to Krussell19's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My port sticks out, and is painful to touch. Sticks out since my bump first started showing. It almost like it's been turned onto its edge (like a coin) i just don't touch it, my ObGyn is not happy it sticks out, but it's not like it's going to pop out of the skin, just unsightly and freakishly strange. I have 4 weeks left and now have to hold my hand over my port when I bend to put shoes on. Just waiting it out... -

I am down to the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy. I was banded April 2012, lost 40 pounds and got pregnant in August. ( I think the weight loss aided in conception). I have gained about 25 lbs over my pregnancy, but all I focus on is eating nutrient rich food. I find I still can't eat a large amount of food, even after having a defill at 5 months. I have continued to work out all pregnancy to be ready to get back to my weightless , after the baby, after the c-section. Be kind to yourself and treat your body like the 'temple' it is. Eventually you will get back to focusing on yourself. Gods luck.
