Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
xring3 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well....as I am probably going to be pummeled again for my answer.....it is no...would not have the surgery again....I would concentrate on watching my eating habits, more exercise and use self control. As I have made these statements in the past I am ready for the negative comments. Sorry if I offend some but, this is how I feel. -
If I had it to do again, I would not have the surgery. I would have been more focused on watching what I eat and the amounts taken in. I did lose weight and have kept it off but, the aftermath is worse than anticipated. I have responded to questions on this topic in the past and generally get pummeled for my thoughts. Perhaps the supporters would rather I keep to myself.

My outlook over the years is you have many "acquaintances" but very few real friends. -
Good luck...hope it works out ok.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
xring3 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As most all on this forum have done the up and down of weight loss only to gain it back those that have had the surgery (majority) would do it again. I am one of those that would not. Yes, I was 244 and am now 187. My goal is 145 to 150. I am about 5 months out. Point is, I never tried the DIETING like most have and probably should have done that to see if I could have done it on my own. Guess I just went to the head of the line so to say. Anyway, today I eat about anything I want but just MUCH smaller portions. Like everyone else, eat too much..get sick, throw-up or have the runs. Still have lots of things I can't keep down. Emotional eating has gone away (good thing) and am happy with only 1 meal a day (this is wrong so I am told). I did win a bicycle in a local Dr. Pepper drawing a few weeks ago so I have no excuse NOT to exercise. -

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

short message to those that feel the surgery was wrong, not for them or feel they should have done it on their own. some folks will vilify your decision. best to keep your thoughts to yourself and move on. this thread is more of a very pro surgery forum and most critical thoughts are not very welcome. MHO -
today at wallyworld I saw a package of salmon burgers in the freezer section. bought a package and will try on the grill (4 to a package). lots of protein and 0carbs. hope I found something I can keep down. one patty between my wife and I should be good for supper with some veggies on the side. everyone but me probably knows about this already.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

as I have also questioned my decision, the best we can do is work the program. As I spent 6 years working in a drug and alcohol treatment center, treating eating disorders is like any other addiction. Day at a time, go to meetings, surround yourself with like minded people. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

it is obvious that you have jumped to a conclusion and did not understand the depth of the posting. Several of your postings contain "not saying that to be mean" which readers really understand as being mean. is this a request so an honest debate will not be addressed on this thread? -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
xring3 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
in my first post I stated I had lost 30 lbs presurgery. As this was my first SERIOUS attempt to lose weight and I think I would have been better served trying to go it on my own, close my eyes on the money I had already spent, not given in to the pressure from surgery staff and my spouse and just eat less and exercise more. I was already well on the right path. Would I do it again if I could keep the food down and had the energy? Well, prior to surgery I had the energy and could keep food down and as stated I was losing weight. So I do not feel like I needed the surgery. What is done is done. Perhaps I should not post on this forum any longer since I do not buy into the WLS dogma. -

I appreciate the encouraging suggestions and truly helpful suggestions. However, this forum thread is a "would you do it again" and say why. I have found that if you do not embrace the WLS line one must be on the defensive from those that tend to belittle the poster. As I have posted, I knew what to expect and knew the risks. I thought an OPINION thread was to have BOTH sides represented. Guess I must have stepped on some toes with my posts.......although they weren't fat toes. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

Normal, normal and normal....those are the test results....am I still losing weight?...you bet I am as I can't keep much down and not for long.......I take bites the size of a thumb nail, can barely choke down 3oz of grilled hamburger meat in 20 minutes.....sight of cooking food, which I used to enjoy, is not there.....BTW, I know better than to over eat or snack between meals...expectations of more energy and better sex drive did not happen.......I am losing weight ( the only expectation to happen ), still on blood pressure meds......guess I should be happy with ONLY the weight loss.......so to answer you I guess that is ALL I should expect....sorry if I am not a cheerleader for gastric sleeve surgery....glad it worked for others but, did not 100% work for me....CAVEAT EMPTOR should be observed. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

I am happy for all the folks that have had successful results from the surgery. As stated before I would not opt to have this surgery again if I could turn back the hands of time. I cannot do this however. So, I shall live with the loss of hair ( have been told this is normal and will come back....we shall see), lack of energy and endurance ( I get fatigued more easily now), have lost sexual desire (was told this would get better...has gotten worse), food is of no interest even though I feel hungry, when I eat I throw up, I used to enjoy cooking but making such small amounts seem worthless and by and large all the good things that were supposed to happen are greatly diminished. The surgery went well with no infections so that is not a worry and recovery went well. Perhaps I expected too much. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

I am just saying, in my instance, I should have relied on doing this on my own. I lost 30 lbs to start and was well on the way at the time of surgery. My wife had the surgery and she thinks it is great. She is 8 lbs from goal. I bought into the hype and went along. Also, I was already several hundred dollars into the program and listened to the storyline. I guess if you can't push yourself away from the food table, are lured by media food ads and do not have the motivation of self restraint then go get the surgery. I just feel, in my case, I should not have jumped into this as quickly as I did. My fault and I blame only myself. Will live with from now on as there is no turning back. Close to lunch time now. Try eating an egg and hope I don't puke it back up. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
xring3 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok folks, I would not have this surgery again. Like any other addiction food is just the conveyer. Weight gain is the result. If a person puts their mind to the fact that they should quit eating so much and exercise more, they could get the positive results they desire. I had the surgery in January of this year. Yes I am losing weight but the price of surgery, sickness from eating anything even in small amounts is not worth it. Do it on your own and save your money and health. -
Stopped Losing Weight!
xring3 replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fell your pain. Losing hair, do not feel any better, eat just a small amount and get sick. Can't reverse so must live with. Great way to spend my retirement. Needed to lose 100lbs. Lost 30 on my own. Only 20 post surgery. 3 months out. Miss food. Programs want you to buy their high cost food that tastes like s?:! Would not do again. Would go it on my own. -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
xring3 replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@xring3 my signature line sums it up. my lovely bride and I decided to spend some of the kids inhertance on ourselves. she is 8 pounds from her goal and I am 44 pounds. she is 3 1/2 months out and I am just over 2 out. funny how little food fill you up. when we go out to eat we tell the waitress to bring a to go box when we order. able to make 3 or 4 more meals with the leftovers. -
I get coffee at the quick stop. I use 1/2 decaf and 1/2 dark roast. The dark roast is SUPPOSED to be lower in caffeene. The mix makes for a good cup of joe. BTW...I'm 2 1/2 months post op....50 lbs down...50 to go....first 20 lbs were pre op.
