I started mushies on day seven post surgery, and was doing regular food by the end of two weeks. I haven't had any issues and I'm over a month post op at this point...with a fill scheduled for may 15. I was just wondering if i could have done something wrong that will give me issues later? My stomach was so upset during that first two week period i felt like i needed to eat something solid to get it to stop. Any thoughts on what can happen if you start solids to soon?

I've read on other boards that your body can't absorb more than 30g of Protein at a time. So one scoop with soymilk is putting you at 26 per shake without the second scoop. You should try spreading your calories out during the day to keep your body fueled...not trying too get in all your protien at once. Hope you feel better!

Banded 3/25/13 and I've noticed this past week that by 3 pm I'm exhausted. I'm literally ready to fall asleep at my desk. Im walking 1-3 miles a day, drink alot of Water, am getting my Protein, and taking my Vitamin and Calcium. I know I'm getting enough calories because I haven't had my first fill yet and other than some constipation I'm doing great...except for the fatigue. Has anyone else had this or have any suggestions on how to get past it? Thanks for you're advice!

I live in Baltimore and the AA women here all get the fake Toenail extensions for summer. I don't get it Bc it petty much limits you to sandals for the next 3-5 months...and they pay alot for it. It might also be an ethnic thing. Personally i keep mine as short as possible and my awesome boyfriends does the pedegg and polishing and foot rubs every week. I live in sandals too, but like to have the option to wear my tennies for exercise.

I'm not eating bread, rice, or Pasta, and I'm staying away from sugar-- but i did have some tortilla chips and salsa. Since surgery I've had one piece of bread, and dessert three times. Could it be carbs?

I ordered a six bottle sample pack of torani from Amazon for 35 bucks. You can also get directly from Torani website or sometimes target.

Anyone being banded on April 29th?
Luka Beth replied to jesse6657's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will probably have a lifting restriction after surgery. My surgeon says no lifting over 20lbs for six weeks after. And i was off work 2.5 weeks and i work in an office at a desk. But my employer is very restrictive and wouldn't let me back until the surgeon released me two weeks after. You may or may not be able to resume you're work activity so soon. When you are on all liquids and pain killers you will be very weak. And I'm sure those trays weigh more than 20 lbs. -
Sorry i should have clarified..i was just saying that they have the aleve version so that you make sure you read the label and get the right one.
-
I just had this issue myself. I took regular Midol that contains acetaminophin and caffiene. They also have a new version made with naproxen sodium (the stuff that Aleve is made from). Stay away from anything that contains ibuprofin because of the risk of ulceration.

Its cheese powder, not actual cheese. I haven't tried it.and they dont offer it as sample.

Marriage problems??
Luka Beth replied to sparkles502's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alot of it may be fear...fear that you may die from surgery complications, fear that you will lose weight and leave him, etc. If this is starting before you get your band then you may want to consider going for couples counseling so that you can talk about the changes that you and he will be making together. I have been with my bf for six years, and as much as we love each other and i would never leave him, he has that insecurity that i will lose weight and leave him...much like i had the insecurity that he would leave me when i was so heavy and felt so ugly.We had to sit down and talk about it, and we are both more secure now. You need you're partner to be supportive. This is a journey you will take together and to be successful, you both need to be on board. I hope you area able to have an open and honest conversation with your partner so that you can go forward together. Good luck! -
When will I start feeling better?
Luka Beth replied to twtabby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heating pad will help the shoulder. I had residual pain in my shoulder almost through week three post op. Some of it is gas pain but some may be from the phrenic (?) nerve that the band touches. It gets better. -
Some people swear by a shampoo that you can get that contains nioxin but I've never tried it.

My surgeon did not do an upper gi for band surgery-he reserves this for RNY and VGS. The upper GI is when toy are put under anesthesia and the camera tube its put down you're throat. He did have me do an EGD, which is basically the fluoroscopy where you swallow barium and stand on front of the screen. The test is done to ensure that you don't have any current existing ulcers or issues. The only reason he made me do one was because i had some acid reflux in the year prior to beginning the process. Good luck.

And just like your surgeon said to take what you take, my surgeon and nutritional team advises to use calcium citrate and not carbonate because of absorption. These are opinion boards, and not medical advice. Everyone can post their own experience and advice, but we should all be following our Dr orders.

Unjury is the only brand i will use. I also ordered the sample pack to try them all. Choc, van, and chicken are good. The strawberry was ok but not my favorite, though it was pretty good mixed into plain Greek yogurt. The choc splendor is the best, and if you invest in the sample pack of Torani sugar free syrups, you will have a llot of shake variety.

Viactive contain calcium carbonate which is not absorbed a well as calcium citrate. Bandsters should be using supplements designed for bariatric patients. Yes they cost more but isn't you're health worth it?

Just Placed my first order for Unjury protein powders.
Luka Beth replied to dmprem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite unjury recipe is this-one scoop unjury chicken powder, six ounces of plain Greek yogurt, some shredded canned chicken breast, and some seasoning like old bay. Mix it all together and let it mellow in fridge over night or for a day or two...the longer you let it set the better it tastes. Its really good as a dip for veggies and high in protien. I sometimes eat it alone with a spoon. -

Favorite Unflavored Protein Powder
Luka Beth replied to BriannasBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Unjury unflavored protien kind of reminds me of carnation coffee creamer powder without the taste. I use it to make jello and puddings without issue. And once its in whatever you put it in you cant taste it. Just be careful when using with hot liquids because it can clump at temps over 140F. When making jello you would whisk it into the cold water and then temper in the hot water with the gelatine dissolved in it. -

I am scheduled for my first fill on may 15. My surgeon told me that he does fills by over filling then having you drink Water and then he backs out Fluid until the water goes through--and then he takes out an additional .5cc. He says that this is more successful than the slower multiple visit fills and can get you to the green zone sooner. Does anyone have experience with this type of fill procedure and on average how long did it take you to get an ideal amount in the band?
-
I think that unjury has the best tasting protien shakes. I actually haven't tried any other brand because i like them so much! You can change them up using sugar free syrups that you find in the coffee aisle at the grocery store. Or you can order them online from amazon. Torani is a great brand to use. Use skim milk or plain soy milk to make your shakes with. They have more protien than almond milk and protien is the name of the game right now. Two weeks is a small sacrifice to start the rest of your life!

6 month dr supervised diet
Luka Beth replied to melanndoll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance {and surgeon} required six months of weekly classes, two visits with a nutritionist, and a psych evaluation. During the six months you were expected to show progress towards losing 10% of your weight by implementing the diet changes you could expect to follow once you had your surgery. There is a standard two week preop diet, but since i lost 40 during the six months i was given the option to only do one week preop. I choose to do both weeks and lost an additional 16 lbs before my surgery. When you are overweight, your liver becomes fatty and dense-the presurgical weight loss helps to remove those fatty deposits to allow your surgeon to have more room to manuver the tools. If your liver is to big and hard your surgeon may not proceed with surgery because of the risk that your liver can 'crack' because its too stiff. Every surgeon its different and i know that the program that i did is more intense than most-but i came out prepared for everything. They cover everything during that six months and i know that it has preparef me for success-once i get my first fill, that is. Always follow your surgeons orders. They tell you what they believe is best for you.
