I have a million dumb questions
Luka Beth replied to colorado_chick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really need to talk to your surgeon for help with these questions. It will depend on where you have your surgery (hospital or clinic), if you will be admitted over night, etc. My surgeon does all procedures at a hospital, so only medical personnel allowed in the OR.There were a bevy of people: nurses, anesthesiologist the surgeon, etc. You should not wake up at any time. You're arent getting your wisdom teeth out, this is major surgery. You will be put under and monitored closely to prevent that from happening. You should be provided a hospital gown to wear, and you will be naked under. This is in case they need to do a catheter, but the procedure is short enough that this is not usually needed. But you will be naked from the boobs to the hips during the surgery-don't freak out bc you will be asleep. Your surgeon will need access to this area because depending on your anatomy, they will need to place your incisions in the best access points for you. if you are required to spend the night, take lose jammies and a sports bra to wear while you walk the halls. Also, if you have an upper GI scheduled for the next day you can't be wearing anything with metal so this way you don't have to change out of anything. -
Oh yeah, don't try to eat anything solid...drink some warm tea or broth and baby yourself and you're band until the swelling goes down.
-
Sip water and eventually your esophogus will fill up and float it back up. Stay near the sink or keep a bin handy. Less painful than vomiting and no stress on your band

Surgery after c-section/breastfeeding.
Luka Beth replied to Motherof2in2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any respectable surgeon would not do a surgery on someone who just had a baby. They would expect you to try to lose the post baby weight on your own. And considering that you've gotten pregnant twice unplanned you would really need to make sure that you didn't have another oopsie once you get your band for at least a year. -
Has anyone ever used hypnosis to deal with the head hunger issues? Just wondering if it would be helpful.
-
I've never been hypnotized, but i thought that the subliminal aspect of maybe putting the portion sizes in my subconscious would help me to not overeat. And would maybe help me to say no to the things i know i shouldn't be eating but which i sometimes find going in my mouth.

Day 3 - How on Earth Am I Supposed to Eat 65 g of Protein
Luka Beth replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The unjury protien does not have a taste, but it is the consistancy of that powdered coffee creamer. If you put in hot liquids, make sure they are not over 140F or it can clump. If you use in cold liquids, it mixes best in a shaker jar. It mixes into pudding well. You can make Jello and add into mix. I've added it into applesauce, and even though its visible it didn't change the flavor. If you like hot chocolate, you can mix the Unjury chocolate splendor into 8 oz of warm Water or milk for a treat. -
I'm only seven weeks out and i started taking 5000mcg of biotin 3-4x a week before my surgery, and restarted two weeks after. I haven't had any hair loss yet, but my hair is growing faster and my nails are a lot stronger. The beauty of biotin is that its water soluable so if you take it and you're body doesn't need it, you just pee it out.

Suggestions for liquid and how to add protein?
Luka Beth replied to Singer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its also called a stick blender. You can put it into a pot instead of putting hot liquids into a blender...which can be super dangerous -
Question About Post-Op Band
Luka Beth replied to NLR1984's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you lose weight immediately post op, its most likely going to be due to the restricted liquid to pureed to mushy diet than to the actual band. The goal immediately post op is to let your body heal, not to lose weight. To learn how to eat. To make the changes you will need to be successful long term. I lost three pounds in the two week period after surgery. I actually go Wednesday for my first fill....maybe. The surgeon will decide if i get one or not. So don't compare yourself to others. You may lose faster or slower or not at all immediately out of the operating room. Focus on YOU and your journey. And best of luck. -

Road Trip: Low carb, high protein, low fat snacks?
Luka Beth replied to 2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Low fat cheese sticks and jerky are great road trip foods. You can buy these at most convenience stores, along with those precooked hard boiled eggs. If you area eating out, look for the healthy options. Chickfila has a grilled nugget kids meal that is perfect for banders. -
I was on clear liquids once released to go home for two days and then full liquids for two weeks. I didn't make it. By day six i started on pureed food (Chicken salad) because i needed something to stop the nonstop diahhrea that i had for four days. I only ate small portions of 1/4 cup or less at the most but it helped tremendously. I also added bean with bacon soup. Every surgeon is different and you should follow your surgeons orders...But you also need to listen to you're own body.

Anyone else have hiccups?
Luka Beth replied to bsumner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get hiccups quite a bit more than i ever did before the band...and I'm almost six weeks out. I've figured out that mine happen when i haven't eaten in a long time (4-6 hours) or when I've hit the full spot with my band. You will hear people talk about their soft stop--the indicator that they have eaten enough. My friend says that she gets a "sigh", or a pain in get shoulder (she's five years out). Mine is hiccups. My goal its to not eat so much to trigger them. And when i do, its time to stop eating. -
Any advice would be great. im on 2nd day post op
Luka Beth replied to supnicolette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walk walk walk walk walk. That's the only way to get gas out. Don't put a lot of stock in gasx because the gas isn't in your stomach proper...its in the cavity and will travel all over. When your shoulder hurts use a heating pad. Don't strain to poo...miralax will make it easier to go but if you did any preop diet you probably don't have a lot of anything waiting to cone out. -

Lisa lampanelli had gastric sleeve, according to what I read. She looks horrible. -
Its very possible to gain after surgery until your first fill. Your body is healing. You are probably holding Water because you aren't drinking a lot yet. My surgeon said to not worry about your weight for first month. You have to worry about eating you're Protein and calories so that you can heal. Also watch weighing yourself to much. Weight fluctuates daily and sometimes hourly. You should only weigh yourself one time a week, and always on the same day at the same time.

Incisions after 48 hours
Luka Beth replied to Creekwood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just like surgeons have different pre and post op instructions, they obviously do surgery incisions differently. Mine were in entirely different places, were sealed with dermabond, and i had no drainage at all. -
March 2013 Bandsters
Luka Beth replied to SWChitown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded March 25. Lost 40 pounds during six month waiting period and another 16 on two week preop diet. At my two week post op appt, I was only down three pounds. I go for my first fill on May 15, and I hope that I'll have a loss to report when I get on the scale. It will be my first weigh since post op. I'm working really hard with portion control, because I've been able to eat pretty much anything, and I hope it will help. I can definitely feel the loss of inches in my clothes. -
Heating pad for shoulder pain.
