This seems to be an old post, but I hope that things have improved for you. I originally lost about 75 pounds and gained 10 back. Because of slippage, I was just rebanded and I'm pretending that it is absolutely new. I realize that I got kinda sloppy in my food choices and amounts, but am being wiser. I've lost a few pounds in these few weeks. My advice (which you are welcome to ignore) is really cut the carbohydrates and measure your food. It seems to help me. where is T-town? Akron (Tire town)? Toledo? Good luck! Let me know how it goes. Fredericka

HI. I live in Akron and was just re-banded by Dr. Zografakas. I gather you have been banded for a few years. How did it go? I lost about 70 pounds with the first band, which slipped. He replaced it and fixed a hiatal hernia three weeks ago. I think that this site and the boois I have bought will give more support than I got at Summa. I would like to lose about 30 more, but Dr Z says I have done very well.

I am delighted to learn about other bandsters my age. Good grief, I was born before Hitler invaded Poland. Anyway, I was first banded about 4 1/2 years ago. I lost over 70 pounds and maintained most of the loss. I cut my insulin, Lasix, and BP meds in half. Unfortunately, early this year I began to have problems keeping food dorn. It turned out to be a repositioned band and hiatal hernia. I was rebanded in late July and I would like to lose about 30 pounds more. We shall see. I am delighted to find this site, and I have purchased a couple books that I can use for support, because I don't really find my surgeon's office to be that much help. I live in Akron, Ohio with 3 cats. I have a daugher in Redmond, WA and a son and grandchildresn in Honolulu. I saw my granddaughter in July because she was in a music study program at Oberlin. I read, do a little mystery shopping, and make jewelry--mostly beaded. I've had pieces on display at a local art museum and several galleries. I buy my clothes at a local thrift shop, leaving me more money for beads!

Need Something Crunchy To Replace Chips?
fredanna replied to waitingpatiently's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In a couple of his low-carb cookbooks, George Stella has recipes for crunchy snacks. My favorite is what he calls "Goldfish". It's American or similar sliced cheese cut into 16 pieces, sprinkled with seasoning (I like Montreal steak seasoning) and baked at 400 for 7 minutes. When they first ome out of the over there is no crunch, but after they cool, they are very satisfying. Pork rinds are good, too. Protein but no carbs. But my favorite crunch is pickled okra. I'm not fond of other okra, but I love the pickles. They are hard to get locally, so I buy a case at a time from Amazon. -
I really like the chocolate splender, but all flavors are good. I use the vanilla a lot--I put it in my sugar free Jello and my sugar-free instant pudding. Tonight I'll finish the cheesecake pudding with vanilla Unjury. Yummee! I'm going to get some more DaVinci sugar free syrups and add them to the vanilla flavor. I finally found a source for DaVinci (Bariatriceating.com doesn't carry it now). I can get it on Amazon prime, but I'll check a couple local stores first.

I am interested in this topic because I have a similar problem. The nutritionist at my surgeon's office says to eat until I am not hungry any more. I am never hungry! I somehow muddled through my first band and lost the amount the surgeon had predicted--kept it off, too--but had to be rebanded last month. This time I'm doing it differently. I have the new lap band book and am measuring out my food carefully. I bought a couple 1/2 cup ramekins to prevent eating too much soup. I'd like to lose half the original amount again, but we'll see.

I just got a new band because of slippage. Several weeks of no fill minimized my vomiting, but not completely. During the surgery we learned that I also had a hiatal hernia. I'm 3 weeks post op n have not vomited once!

Don't worry about 4 pounds. As a couple others have mentioned, many factors influence our weight. When I was in the hospital for 2 days to have my band replaced, I gained 10 pounds on their clear liquid diet! Was I surprised! It's gone now, and so is a little more. Anyway, my ban had "repositioned" and needed to be replaced. Before he removed the liquid from my band, I was vomiting 2 or 3 times a day. After the un-fill, I vomited only once or twice a week. Three weeks into the new band, I have not vomited once. You have accomplished so very much. Be proud of yourself and don't stress out. There will be ups and downs, but if you follow your food plan, the downs will prevail!

Where's everyone from?
fredanna replied to WheelCrazy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am from Akron, Ohio, where I was first banded in January of 2009 ( I think--I'm vague about dates). I lost without regaining over 60 pounds and cut my insulin, Lasix, and BP meds in half, but early this year started vomiting a lot. My GI doctor ordered upper GI work and said that my band had slipped. I went to my original surgeon, who removed my fill an ordered a second GI series, then announced that the band had not slipped, it had just repositioned itself. He gave me several options. I chose to have him remove the band and replace it, which he did on July 29. He also found a hiatal hernia. Between removal of the band and port, inserting new band and port, and fixing the hernia,I was in pain--more pain than when I;ve had toes amputated. Fortunately he kept me in the hospital 2 nights because I am an old woman who lives alone. Although I had requested that the nutritionist talk to me and give me all the information she would have given if I were a newbie, she hasn't talked to me yet; therefore, I am pretty dependent on the new lapband book. I start my mushies tomorrow. Yippee! I am delighted to have found this web site. I'd like to lose 15 or 20 pounds more, but we'll see..
