I'm having trouble with this very thing. I know I should eat my protein first, but it is usually the thing I like best on my plate. If I save it, though, I'll probably eat too much. Hmm. Maybe someday soon a brownie for lunch? Never thought of that before.

Drug stores sell anti-itch cream. It helps. Don't scratch! Sometimes I've put bandages over incisions so that if I do scratch (like during the night) I won't damage the incision. Good luck.

This is an update on my recent comments on Dr John Zografakis. The person in whom I had so liitle confidene doesn't seem to be there any more. YIPPEE! The other members of his staff seem competent and pleasant, and Dr Z himself sees more outgoing than he did previously. As I said before, he seems to be an excellent surgeon. AND I do not know why this is underlined. When I click on the underline symbol it doesn't turn it off, but I don't know why it decided to underline in the first place.

Dr Z did my original band in 2009. I would have preferred Akron General Hospital, but at that time they had not done enough to qualify for , Medicare, so... Dr Z seems to have a lot of surgical skill, and he is pleasant, but I am not impressed with the overall support I got there. I've gone to the support meetings at General, liked them. Anyway, began having problems this spring and my GE guy said my band had slipped. Called Dr Z, of course, and was assured his bands do not slip; however, after a second upper GI series he admitted that it had "repositioned" itself. He gave me several options, and we agreed that he would remove the band and replace it. It turned out I also had a hiatal hernia. I am back on solid food now, and not barfing several times daily! YIPPEE! Also, the support seems to have improved. It was funny. I got home from the hospital after the reband and weighed myself. During the 3 days (he kept me in an extra day because I am elderly, a fall risk, and live alone) I had gained 10 pounds! They are gone now, along with a few others.

Funny article - even in the middle ages, cats loved to interfere with their human's work!

Thank you for sharing this. Cats love touch Kindles, too. -
Several weeks ago I posted that I cannot exercise because my doctor says to stay off my left foot with the diabetic ulcer. A few people replied with the reasonable suggestion that I try working out at a gym. My health insurance does include Silver Sneakers, but unfortunately because of the distance from house to parking lot, then their parking lot to the Y, it involves walking a total of about 4 blocks. Nope. HOWEVER, I may have just solved my problem. While fooling around online I found reference to DVDs that lead exercises for seated seniors! YIPPPEEE! I ordered one this morning, and should receive it on Friday. I'll let y'all know what I think of it. Although its target audience is seniors, I would think that it would also be good for anyone with limited mobility or anyone whose size makdes regular exercise difficult. Meanwhile, I'll just sit here and raise my legs up and down for a while.

Someone told me that now that the AMA has officially classed obesity as a disease, it will be easier to get insurance to help pay for the surgery. I don't know if that is true, but it is worth investigating. Good luck!

My "I miss eating " time is evening. I am trying to think of snacks that are: Satisfying to chew on Taste good High in protein Low in carbohydrate Just thought of something. Next time I go to the grocery store, I'll buy pork rinds, and then not allow myself to pig out. (Pun not intended)

I was taken to Boston Market twice this week. I brought ton of food home, of course. Much of it will be come chicken salad or chicken soup, but I did notice (with pleasure) that I ate small pieces of dark and white met successfully, because the meat was moist and tender. Nevertheless, I am not going to try to cook my own chicken breast for a while.

pinching pain at port site
fredanna replied to elynnmo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At one week I told my surgeon that I was still having pain, especially on thee left under the ribs. He said, "No, you're not." Big help, huh. I'm at 4 weeks now and it stopped about a week ago. I am not a sissy. I only took pain pills for one night after a toe amputation, but WOW! After this surgery (a re-banding) my legs, my torso, and my shoulder all hurt. -
Good luck! Don't you think that part of the reason they are denying the surgery to morbidly obese people is that they hope the person will die while they are waiting? I know that that is a cynical remark, but...

I just switched from Spirotein, which comes in many, many delicious flavors but has many, many carbs. I now use Unjury, and I can use daVinci or Torani suger-free syrups to change the flavors, especially the vanilla. Earlier tonight I had an Irish Cream protein shake. yummmm.

Skinny Cow - I Think I Am Hooked! What Are Your Guilt Free Treats?
fredanna replied to Kiskis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Aldi's often has frozen treats that are a sort of sugar-free popsicle layered with white stuff. (Vague enough?) Right now I'm out of them, but I think the brand name is Fit and Active. They of a yummy 14 calories! -
Trouble finding a surgeon for 72 year old.
fredanna replied to eNana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was 70 when I got my first band. Because of slippage, I was recently re-banded at 74. Medicare paid. -
I would like to join the Doing it Again group. I was originally banded in January of 2009. I lost about 70 pounds and kept most of it off. The doctor said that at my age, that was about I should expect to lose. I stopped going got fills for a couple years, then got another at the end of the year. Ooops! Too much, I guess, because I was soon vomiting daily, BUT I was out of town visiting my daughter and so didn't see a doctor. Because I feared cancer of the esophagus I called my GI doctor. After I'd had a few chugs of barium (ugh) he said that my band had slipped and so I called my bariatric guy. More barium, but he scheduled me for a rebanding in late July. I've lost 8 or so pounds more. I think I'll keep losing for a while, because I have better support--this website and a couple books

Looking for great recipes, low-carb and HIGH protein
fredanna replied to rondawood63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you all checked Foodnetwork.com and entered the search term "low carbohydrate recipes" ? I've gotten some good ideas there and learned about a lowcarb cookbook series that I got (used) from Amazon. -
I generally avoid them, but I do sometimes I splurge on stouffers tuna casserole, especially during Lent.

I'm another who has trouble with chicken breasts without a lot of sauce. Fortunately, I like dark meat. Have you tried chicken salad? If you are too busy to make your own, Aldi's has one that tastes good, though it is high in fat.

My favorite canned soups were on sale, and so I bought a can of chicken pot pie, my very favorite. I brought it home, pureed it, heated it, and prepared to have a delicious lunch. WOW! What a disappointment! I gave most of it to the cat, who didn't like it very well, either. When I get back to real foods...

BIG exercise NSV and breaking the mental barrier :)
fredanna replied to finallytime's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm a newbie. What is "NSV"? And what is the "green zone"? -
I had a complete unfill, awaiting an upper GI (EGD) and still having problems with food.
fredanna replied to ShelleyB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was recently rebanded because my band had repositioned itself (my surgeon says his bands do not slip) and I was still barfing some, though not as much , after the unfill. I also d repairs to a hiatal hernia. Trust me, it'll get better. -
I 'm in Ohio, but I'd be glad to correspond with you. We can always use support, correct? I'm a retired technical writer, but have also worked as a library director and college/high school teacher. (Sounds like I can't hold a job, huh.)I have two kids, one in Redmond, WA and one in Honolulu. I was bended several years ago and lost about 75 pounds. I gained a little back, but after re-banding I have lost the regain and now am working on becoming a scrawny old lady. Ok, a thinner one.

I was recently rebanded and should be walking daily; however, because of a diabetic ulcer on the ball of my foot, I am supposed to stay off my feet as much as possible until it heals. Therefore, I cannot go into the pool across the street, either. Walking is tricky for me anyway because of balance problems and a few missing toes. I just ordered some resistance bands and a Leslie Sansone DVD from Amazon. I'll sit in a chair and move my feet, kick, or whatever Leslie says to do. It won't be like real walking, but at least I won't be completely sedentary. Any other suggestions?

My nut says to eat when I'm hungry and to stop eating when I no longe3r feel hungry. Unfortunately, I never feel hungry, even when my blood sugar gets low. I am still on mushies, but am adopting the 3 small meals and a snack or two. By the way, I love the term "nut" in this context. I've known a few who really deserve it.

Low Carb or No Carb? - Still Very New To This and Could Use Some Help!
fredanna replied to yannabee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
George Stella has three low-carb cookbooks that ae excellent. There is also a low-carb comfort food cookbook--I am too lazy to look the author's name up. I have found excellent recipes in each of them.
