  1. It might be a safety issue as well? Definitely can't hurt to get a second opinion. My BF had a Gastric bypass and then had all her procedures at once. TT, Breast augment and arms. but she was friends with her surgeon so that might have made the difference I don't know. Good luck with your surgeries! I can only dream about the day my "girls" aren't looking due south

What are you NOT ABLE to eat?

Bread, and most meats, but let me say I still eat small amounts of meat, but since in most cases I have to chew it forever..I just get tired so I prefer to get protein in other sources. My friend has yet to eat Salad's and she's been banded for 5-6 yrs?

    Feeling discouraged!

June 13, made one year post op, I lost 73 lbs in the first 6 months,CONGRATULATIONS! THAT'S AWESOME! I got my first fill in march after not losing anymore, I've got a total of 3 cc's in my band, went to dr on Friday slow and steady seems to work better (***) she gave me .50 cc, I told her I wasn't losing anymore, she replied that, maybe all your gonna lose? now that isn't a very positive statement, you've proven that your doing well, so I don't understand her attitude on that . It's difficult to comment as hazel mentioned we don't know how much you need to lose? But it seems like Hazel said that's allot of excuses from your doctor, she only does fills 1 day a week? sounds like she doesn't do allot of Lap bands? ( my Doc does fills 3.5 a week surgeries 2x's a week) I don't have much restriction, she won't give me much fluid at all, one cc every month, I asked her why so little and she said that I lost all that with no fills and she's afraid that I will get to filled and where she only does fills on Friday that I will be really sick all weekend, Being stuck isn't a nice feeling, but it sounds again like the hours are convenient for the Doctor NOT the patients. I guess I'd ask why your only at 3cc? Tell your doctor how you feel about not having adequate restriction, and ask if you can come in every 2 weeks if all she is going to do is fill .5 each time. 3 cc's seems pretty low for being banded for a year already. I know what a "pain" it is to find a new doctor but it might be something that you want to consider. What do I do ?Keep us posted please .

    Persistent Difficulty Swallowing

Endoscopy will tell the surgeon if something is physically causing blockage or if there is something wrong with the lining of the stomach/esophagus what you might want to discuss with your surgeon is having an esophageal manomentry done, it measures the rhythmic muscle contractions that occur when you swallow. Big difference if your having troubles swallowing. Hope this helps!

It's a good thing your trying different ones and protein shakes STINK...lol BUT..since we need them for our journey there are allot of different things to make them more palatable Have you tried just getting protein power and making a fruit smoothie? or the Protein water Isopure Plus 0 Carb Protein Drink Grape Frost, 8 ounces amazon carries it and it doesn't taste terrible.http://www.amazon.co...opure zero carb
  9. SO Sorry your experiencing this during a time meant to bring you tremendous JOY. I can't comment on being pregnant and removal but I would trust your Doctors at this point the Safety of you and your baby are what is most important Congratulations on your impending delivery and ENJOY that New LIFE!!!!
  10. I was banded with the realize band (remember all those realize band commercials?) back in 2005. First I'd like to congratulate you on what most would consider long term success with A BAND. None are permanent. with the belief that it was the same as the lap band, just a few differences in how it is placed, etc. I was banded in Indiana. If you compare the literature the complications are the same, initially I think the difference was that Realize claimed that their band placed lower pressure on the esophagus. Lap band is high pressure. If you want to read and compare here is the realize site. http://www.realize.c...-comparison.htm Bands in general have been around awhile and have had constant updates,so I'm not going to assume what kind you have. I have since moved to connecticut and my doctor here does not use the realize band anymore. He said it is a lot harder to get fills to get you to proper restriction, etc. I can't see the Physician's Assistant - he does all my fills with the fluroscope. No matter what band type Fluro is a great idea. Anyone else run into this? On top of this the realize band has suddenly moved to the bottom of my esophagus and I have a 50:50 chance of dilation. A band IS placed just below the GEJ normally, did you mean it was below this point on your stomach? **Symptoms of pouch enlargement include lack of satiety, heartburn, regurgitation and occasional chest pain. The diagnosis is made with an upper gastrointestinal series (. Nonoperative treatment includes complete band deflation, low-calorie diet, re-enforcement of portion size and follow-up contrast study in 4–6 weeks. If the band position and the pouch size return to normal, then the band can be incrementally reinflated. A study by Moser and colleagues demonstrated that this conservative approach to pouch enlargement was successful in up to 77% of patients. Conservative treatment is considered unsuccessful when the pouch fails to recover its original size after 8–10 weeks. In this circumstance, surgical treatment with either band removal or replacement is indicated. I'd go back ask the doctor to do an upper GI and stop guessing your going to drive yourself crazy Good Luck and keep us posted!! **http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3038361/

    Unfill HELL!!! Help please

Why did you/Doctor feel the need to remove saline from the band? Were you too tight? having symptoms? Most often taking saline out is done to resolve problems. I'm curious why he felt that was the "right amount" . I've has saline removed due to reflux on occasion but usually.5 cc. waited about a month then went back for a refill. I don't know your age but when going through a menstrual cycle some women have complained about "Water weight gain" which is possible our body retains water in the cells constantly, due to different reasons, salt intake etc,and the body is 60% water in general. Call your new doctor ask them to come back in, but some saline back in and I think you'll be surprised at how quickly that 10 lbs will go away. Good luck

    Dry mouth

Dr's right, it's normal, medications can and do cause dry mouth. If it's really bothersome you can use a room vaporizer, suck on sugar free candies,(stimulates saliva flow) and try breathing through your nose not your mouth. But you went through major surgery WHEW .. Sounds like your getting enough fluids .Of course if you start running a high grade fever , feel ill call your doctor. Welcome to the Banded side

    3 weeks post op

If your only 3 weeks post op yes, unfortunately your expecting to much If you felt restriction before it's probably due to surgery/healing not LB restriction. It's Tough I know but like you'll hear over and over The LB is a TOOL. It's going to take time for the tool to help in respect to restriction,( I know we all want it NOW) 14 lbs in 3 weeks is AWESOME, that's almost 5 lbs a week My surgeon said 10-12 A MONTH was good, so your ahead already!! remember slower fills tend to be better, ( being to tight stinks) and I hope you feel a little more restriction after your fill, but sometimes you won't. Reality stinks What you might want to do is attend a support class, talks to others further along, get ideas on how to reduce the "mind games" try a new exercise to help with the weight loss, log calorie intake ..It all helps in the long term. The band, or fills aren't going to do all the work (darn) but your headed in the right direction so keep moving and good Luck with your journey.

  18. Gastric banding is the easiest bariatric procedure to fit into a patient's schedule -- which may be why it was N.J. governor Chris Christie's stomach-shrinking procedure of choice, experts told MedPage Today. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Endocrinology/Obesity/39046
  19. Well since this isn't My Article but written by By Kristina Fiore, Staff Writer, MedPage Today, it's possible she seems to think banding Gov, Christie was a bad idea? But he's a "public figure" and that leaves him open to criticism from the Media. The actual video is actually PRO band So maybe Dr Wilson is just Trolling for patients?

Band has migrated to my bowel!!!

Nici sorry you went through this, yes it's rare but it does happen OBVIOUSLY your Living proof And thank goodness you are! NO Need to feel Shame we all need HELP or this forum wouldn't exist. The band doesn't necessarily migrate into the colon, when this happens it can be from the tubing since the band has a length of tubing that has to be cut to a patient's anatomy, thus..it might be from the tubing migrating into the colon. http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3269383/
