See YA on the "other side"

leighw, sorry that your nauseous, major surgery will do that perhaps you can try a heating pad on your abdomen. I'd call the doctor tomorrow and let him know that the meds he gave you aren't working so well. Remember to walk allot too, your early out and probably still dealing with the CO2 in your system as well. Are you having problem with shoulder pain? That is a common problem post-op along with the nausea? Feel better soon!!

FYI:New Guidelines for Weight-Loss Surgery Upgrade Sleeve Procedure
JACKIEO85 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeve gastrectomy is an effective form of bariatric surgery and should no longer be considered investigational, according to updated guidelines cosponsored by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, The Obesity Society, and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Read More.....link below http://www.medpagetoday.com/Endocrinology/Obesity/38112 -
Check with your Doctor it's normally the pain meds but you can also get anti-nausea meds if necessary like phenergan

Keep us posted !!! I see that your Doctor's visit was today? sounds like your too tight, he might give you a PPI for the problem. AN upper GI is a great idea as well

Question for lap-band self-pay patients.
JACKIEO85 replied to Toddy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter's insurance has denied coverage for wls. Have they denied her or is it stated that their is NO coverage for WLS? Because an appeal can be done She is looking at lap-band with plication. I've had it done and it's the best thing I've every done for myself, but I had 100% insurance coverage, so my feelings may be skewed a little bit. In fact, I most likely would not have even considered wls if I hadn't had insurance coverage. Your probaly not alone I'm pretty sure allot of people with insurance coverage felt more inclined to have WLS surgery because of the coverage. I mean realistically WHO can just say HEY, I'll pay out 12-16 K for surgery NOT ME! Which I firmly believe is why allot of Ins. companies are going to WLS per lifetime in their policies. I know the majority of people on this site say it's the best thing they've ever done, also. Yes, reducing or eliminating Co-Morbidities and being Healthier is an awesome motivator I'm just wondering about the perspective of those that have paid $12,000 to $16,000 (or more) and if they, too, think it was worth the cost. NO, If I had to have paid all out of pocket I would have personally gone with the sleeve. My reasons are this: I'm a realist and even though I'm not having problems now, I keep an eye on complications, especially since they first said the band was permanent and now they say it's not. I don't believe any WLS surgery is without risks but I'm not looking forward to another one so I pray I won't need it. Surgery to me is a BIG DEAL, any surgery to me is invasive. JMO~ My daughter is 25 and has a bmi of 43. She does not currently have any co-morbidities, but having visited her lately and hearing her snore, she could probably use a sleep study and CPAP. Which is probably a great idea PRIOR to her decision for WLS. So many people have the belief that sleep apnea is just snoring and an inconvenience BUT it is and can be much more than that and is connected to Health issues long term. However, with my history of high blood pressure and both sides of the family having history of diabetes. Mine too, Genetic Stinks!! your such an awesome MOM for helping her thorough this I think with your Help she will make a Great decision!! keep us posted! . -
HI I'm Kim and I am at the very beginning of this journey, WELCOME KIM..... I have an appt with my Dr. to request the surgery and get a referral to a surgeon. I am very excited but I don't even know if my insurance will cover it. You can call your HR person or even your insurance company and find out exactly what is in your policy in regards to WLS . Some insurances are now going to 1 WLS per lifetime so it would be a good idea to find out first an avoid disappointment And also this may play a part in your final decision as to what surgery you choose. We are at a new year July 1 so I don't know yet. I was covered under the old policy so hopefully it will on the new one. God wiling it will be Januaury. I am presently on Weight Watchers, started yesterday so I am on the diet process This is a Great idea, what you might also want to do is keep a record/ journal of all your that doing with WW. (meetings, food intake, exercise etc... Some times the insurance company wants a WL history prior to banding or any WLS for that matter.I at one time was scheduled to the gastric bypass but found out a month before that I was pregnant.Congratulations I'm glad I didn't get it done because I am a nurse and cared for those patients and there were a lot who had complications. True with all WLS' I think banding is the right way for me to go. A friend did it but it was sucessful. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I look forward to sharing with you on this journey and any help or advice you can give me for prep would be greatly appreciated. Kim Make a list of questions, take them to the Doctor's office with you or to the seminar. You will usually (depending on your doctor) be put through tests like Endoscopy, stress test, phys eval, 6 ,months before actual banding. So just keep researching/ asking questions. And good Luck with whatever decision you make.

6 weeks post op. Had my first fill but...
JACKIEO85 replied to JimsObie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before my first fill and after my surgery I felt hungry all the time. We have all been in this same situation. I also could eat what ever I wanted Again we have all been there BUT...we fought for this surgery now let's use it to our advantage Now I've had my first fill and its been 5 days. I still can eat whatever I want and if I am not careful I will over eat just like before.Well surgery + 5 days means your about 7-8 weeks out? I'd venture to say your going through Bandster HELL IT STINKS!! no nice way of putting it ...Total weight loss is 22 lbs ANY loss is GREAT!! Congratulations since I started the whole process. But wondering if I need to just wait until my next fill Yes, I'd wait, your doctor might not even do another fill even if you wanted one This is where the MIND has to take charge and look at your options of getting in more dense proteins (they will help to satisfy you longer) If you have to write out your calorie count and divide it up so that your eating more often NOT MORE during the day that might help. or go back on the full liquid until my stomach shrinks a little more?, Shrinking your stomach isn't going to help, not if your hungry and your stomach is looking for nourishment. Good Luck, hope this helps! -

Any other teachers out there? Other suggestions welcome!
JACKIEO85 replied to Amp1504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Pray your bladder doesn't explode! I heard that can happen, OH wait I read that on the internet, not everything you read is true.. The fluid requirements are so that you don't get dehydrated, you can always arrange that so you drink more when a restroom is readily available. 2. Your band isn't going to hold you over for 4 hrs, not if your newly banded, that is progressive with fills. You have to learn Mind control. OR FEAR, that worked for me. I was so paranoid after being banded about all the things I wasn't supposed to do . Like don't drink b4 /after eating, no carbonation, eat only a cup of food, all the "rules" because eventually it becomes habit and "over thinking " stops. I think you might want to consider eating the 3 meals but perhaps incorporating healthy snacks into your schedule as well 6:30 am-6:30 pm is a long day. But often banders have stated that their band is tight in the early am and it's difficult to eat much? so maybe you can delay your breakfast to help make it through the day. -

I feel violated......hahaha maybe It's one of those things you choose to forget -
3 out of 8 isn't bad Right?...I haven't ever been able to do a real push up, and with recent surgery on my elbow I won't be doing one anytime soon: I'm not a runner, I prefer to walk fast and far. And my Bikini days are gone forever (kids do that to ya) Oh yeah, and the dating part might upset my spouse just a tad...lol BUT I believe you can do this!!! beanie80 #8 is going to happen before you know it!! Keep us posted I'll be looking forward to all your 8 goals and achievements happening for you!

GERD and Weight Loss Surgery ?
JACKIEO85 replied to nancyg121855's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd have to agree with sojourner, I'd go see a gastroenterologist and have them evaluate your situation first. having a band is no guarantee that your gerd will go away or lessen. The band is placed right at the GEJ (end of esophagus beginning of stomach) so maybe that is why he suggested the band? Thinking that the pressure of the band would help to close the esophageal sphincter? But as other's here have mentioned reflux seems to be one of those things that can happen with the band. I'd hate for you to go through the surgery and end up getting worse. GOOD LUCK on your decision and keep us posted -

It all depends on YOU!! If you follow the guidelines given to you by your surgeon. A pre-op diet helps get you into the groove of eating less. Exercise will help to not only lose but get stronger.Everyone is different, and it's sooooooooo True. As far as I'm concerned any WLS can be Successful if you want it enough. and ANY weight loss is a GOOD thing if you get healthier Their is allot of good advise here on LBT. SO make a note of all your questions that you want to ask before going for the consult, It's allot of information to take in at once. Write down the answers as well. Ask the doctor how many patients he had banded, what is the success rate of those patients, what is the average weight loss for his patients. What are the complication rates, and what complications If any has he seen. Ask if he finds a hiatial hernia will he fix it while he places the band. ( I had one that I was unaware of prior to the band) He will probably tell you also about the tests that will be needed prior to be banding, endoscopy, Phys. eval, stress test, sleep apnea, Ask what pre-op diet they recommend, ideas for protein drinks, meal plans etc. He will probably tell you that you can discuss all of this with the nutritionist, but that may be a separate fee? Ask if he is going to be available to discuss problems if any arise some offices always instruct pt's to "just go to the ER" When in fact most ER's don't know how to handle band problems. I could probably think of more things ...but you will find answers here if you just put it in the search it's full of information from allot of good people.

Symptoms of pouch enlargement include lack of satiety, heartburn, regurgitation and occasional chest pain. The diagnosis is made with an upper gastrointestinal series If your not experiencing any of these problems I think it's safe to say your fine..But if it really bothers you call your Doctor. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3038361/

JACKIEO85 replied to dee21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry Newbie's aren't allowed to ask questions until they are 1 Month post -op I'm sorry I'm feeling rather Snarky today GuyMontag gave allot of great advise!! You can use a heat pack to help relax the muscles and the Ice pack will help reduce swelling. I was told 20 mins ON 20 min off for both. WELCOME to the "other side" -
Differences in post op diets
JACKIEO85 replied to utkscvol1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wish we could ask the Surgeons...They learn from the manufacturers when they attend all the learning seminars and patient experience. Mine told me liquids all day with 1- 300 calorie meal. others have been told all liquids? I think some Doctors are just into torturing us LMAO.... But in the end I think it's all about shrinking the liver prior to surgery. Me personally, I'm glad my surgeon didn't say OOPS during surgery -
First congratulations! I too can relate, the band really is just a TOOL..I was banded 04-09 lost 70 lbs and went thru ALLOT of life stresses. gained it all back. Restarted 04-12 and Thrilled to say I have lost 80 and 10 from goal. It's a mind game and the biggest factor is NOT letting those old habits resurface. It's no different than any other weight loss your MIND has to be in it. our minds play such a HUGE part in our success. It really is all about wanting to be healthier and succeeding no matter what your goal is. If you didn't reach it today YOU CAN DO IT TOMORROW!!!!!! GOOD LUCK I know you can do this!!

had first fill 8 weeks ago..hungry
JACKIEO85 replied to newmeva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 months postop...lost 9 pounds since fill 8 weeks ago..hungry eating things I shouldn't be...should I go ahead ahead and get another fill Perhaps a small one might help . but may I suggest you also get your head in the game ( sorry I hate that expression it's NOT a game) It's your Life! along with the fills we need to be accountable for what we eat and how much That's why were all here to learn new habits. Let me play the Devil's advocate :  What IF they told you NOPE NO FILL? your first thought would be OMG what am I going to do ? Well I guess you might need to rethink your food choices and start exercising if your not already? I think you can see where this headed..yes you probably could use a fill, but what happens on that day they say NO? GOOD LUCK ...you've already lost 9 lbs that's Awesome Keep up the good work!! -

"WALK IT OUT" and may I be the First to WELCOME you prematurely of course to the "OTHER SIDE" and as Cheznoel said keep a steady flow of pain meds in your system..they work better if you take them before you NEED them. and get some sort of stool softener because in a week you'll be back asking how to help that BM along -
Who is tired of liquid protein drinks and broth...raise your hand??!!
JACKIEO85 replied to erinjkenben's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NOW that the Million PLUS people here on LBT have their hands raised...lol we should start a party!! and chant ~NO MORE LIQUID DIETS~~ I'll be the first in line.... I just had a colonscopy and that my dear is a HUGE reminder why I hate liquid diets UGH! but it's all for a greater good!! Getting and Staying Healthy!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! -
Or am I the only one that is terrified of stretching my pouch even though I only eat one cup at my meal... And no more after. ;)Might be a common fear ,I'm not sure? let's just say if you eat too much and get uncomfortable you'll never do it again I'm so afraid that any food I eat will stretch it and so I drink while I eat so it can wash down.. I know I'm not supposed to... well then I have to ask, why are you? Were told NOT to drink for a reason, which is to allow the food to stay in the "pouch" longer for satiety I don't know where your at in your journey, 1 cup of food should allow you to feel full for 3-5 hours depending on what you consume. Drinking as I think you know speeds that process along. I'm at the point where my Weightloss has slowed drastically It might be because your eating more? or more frequently?and I think my thinking is something is wrong with my band and that's why I drink water while I eat so I don't ruin it more? That might be stupid but what are your thoughts? I think your defeating the purpose of your band..Relax........ GOOD LUCK!!
-
Yep, your healing inside and out , it takes time, you might even experience little twinges of discomfort farther out as well. things that feel like "bee stings" are the tubing on the left side under your ribs (at least that is what my doctor said).. Good Luck on band Journey
