I read about lots of surgeries all over the world but don't see any sleeve surgeries in Ontario. I'm having surgery June 8th in Toronto and am wondering if anyone else on this forum has had surgery in Toronto and what their experience has been like?
-
I think your weightloss is pretty good. I was sleeved on June 8th and I have only lost 37 pounds including the 2 week pre-op diet and it looks like I may be entering my second stall. I try to only weigh once a week but I peeked a couple of days early and I was up 1.5 pounds (eek!). So far my hair hasn't started falling out that I have noticed but I have very thick hair so it may be hard to tell.

I know this is a crazy question...
mugs replied to mickie41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon allowed us to wear panties under our gown so we weren't exposed when we walked into the OR. I took a bit of anaesthetic before I went to sleep so the last thing I remember was them wrestling trying to get my panties off. Apparently in recovery I kept asking who stole my panties. Glad all you health professionals know that we are "under the influence" and can laugh at the crazy things we say???? -
Which Canadian surgeon did you have for VSG

I had my surgery in Toronto with Dr Orzech. All the staff were great but I was lucky enough to only be 1.5 hours away so I got to go home after 2 nights in the hospital. They do require you to stay in a hotel for the rest of the week if you are more than 2 hours away which can get expensive. My surgery was $18,500 so I was certainly glad I didn't have to spend more on a hotel. -
I had my surgery with Dr Orzech as well. Everything went great and they are a great group of people to work with. I only had a bit of gas pain but walking helped a lot. I only took pain mess the first night home to help sleep. You are in good hands.

June 8th for me as well. Doing pretty good. Only lost 8 lbs on 2 week preop. Came home 2 days after surgery and had gained it all back due to the fluid. I felt like Humpty Dumpty because I was so bloated. I'm only weighing in weekly to try not to make myself nuts! Week one I was down the gained weight from surgery plus 5 more so 13 total from preop. Moved to the purée stage yesterday and trying to find ways to keep it interesting but scrambled eggs (half an egg is all I could get down) were wonderful. Overall not too hungry yet but I've been cooking like crazy for my husband just to keep busy.

Two week full liquids starts today-JUNE 8 Sleevedate

June 8 for me too. I'm in Canada. I started my 2 week preop diet on Monday which consists of 3 protein shakes and max 250 calories of only low glycemic vegetables (all the yucky ones). It's tough but I'm hanging in so far. -
Sleeve June 8th, son'a graduation June 27
mugs replied to allyray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am wondering the same thing. My surgery is June 8 and my son is graduating university on June 15th. My problem is that the ceremony is 2 hours away and my son needs to be there 2 hours before it starts. The ceremony is for several programs and could last 3-4 hours. That could mean it will be a 10 hour day away from home one week after surgery. My surgery was booked for several months before we knew the graduation date and cannot be changed now as it took a lot of planning to get time off work. -
New to this site! Set to be sleeve 6-11-15.

June 8th in Toronto,Ontario Canada -
I think you are doing great. I also had lap band booked but had to post pone due to some other issues. Since then I have started eating healthier and I wouldn't even call it dieting because I still treat myself and I have lost 20.5 pounds. I was starting to have cold feet with the lap band when I had to post pone it and now I'm glad I did. I'm not naive enough to say that this time it will work for sure but for now it's working and I feel great. All the negative postings and complications that I have read on this forum had me thinking twice but since I did postpone the surgery I am ok with my decision. Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading your updates on your weight loss. Prove to everyone that willpower can go a long way!

How do you private message someone? Sorry I know this isn't the right thread but I can't seem to start a new thread either? I click on the person and write the message but the "send" button isn't highlighted. I'm sure it's in my settings but no idea how to change it.

Hi stept04 I understand what you're feeling. I'm scheduled for surgery June 28 and I'm really having second thoughts. I'm in Ontario and lapband is not well known in Canada. I have fears of complications and hospitals in my area not knowing anything about lapband and misdiagnosing or mistreating me. Im about 2 hours away from my surgeons office. To top it off, I'm self pay ($16000) and my husband and I work at the same place. We are having some serious slowdowns at work and now I fear spending that kind of $ just in case something happens as we have 2 children in post secondary (and wow it's expensive here in Canada). I'm normally not superstitious but I'm wondering if this is some sort of sign to not proceed with the surgery. I've been yo-yo-ing back and forth for the past 2 weeks and the stress has caused me to lose 8.5 lbs (weird cause normally I'm a stress eater-and I realize I will prob gain it bak like always). I don't know a single person who has has wls personally as it isn't popular here so the only info I am getting is from this forum and my surgeon. My family dr is not familiar with the band so he is only going by what he reads as well. Ugh. I hate decisions like this! My husband will support me either way but he is not real cool with risks or complications so I think he would prefer I back out.

I am also in Ontario and have a health care spending account and although I'm not being banded till June, they say if I have a dr note stating that surgery is for medical reasons and not cosmetic reasons, they may cover a portion up to my annual limit (which is no where near the actual cost). Dr's office said they could provide a letter so we will see what their response is when I submit the claim.

Glad to hear that all went well. Wow 16 lbs on pre-op is making the Slimtime shakes sound better to me. Rest up and enjoy your family's company.

Good luck mandymoo! Everything will be great and I'm looking forward to hearing your success as I'm in preop stage with same surgeon and clinic. Just think when you go back to work you will be a whole new person so they'll forgive one day of your mind wandering!

Hi Tom, I spoke with Dr Cobourn last week and he seems very pleasant and knowledgable. I'm a bit more than an hour out of Toronto. I will send you an email tomorrow. Any extra info that I can gather would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I finally decided and booked at SWLC for June 28 (vacation time at work). Now I'm nervous and excited all at once.

Booked! Now scared and excited all at the same time

Do you mind if I ask what clinic you are having your lap band at? I'm in Ontario as well and considering CIBO but recently got news of reduced hours at work, both my husband and I work at same place, so now kinda afraid to spend the $18000 and not sure that I can miss the time for follow up appts. Im also located approx 2 hours away and dont drive in Toronto so both of us would have to miss time. I was hoping to have surgery during my week of shutdown vacation time so that's not really an issue. Good luck with your pre op diet and surgery. -
Thanks for the reply. What is the vlc pre op diet. Is it fluids that are prescribed or can you eat normal food while following their guidelines. I don't want to share my decision with my co workers so I'm a bit anxious about packaged foods during lunch hours. Thanks again.

Hi. I'm considering lap band and deciding between cibo and swlc. The pre op vlc for swlc has me worried because I'm not sure what it involves. I've ruled out slimband due to many reasons and surprisingly got my $2500 deposit refunded. I have a consult scheduled for march 22 at cibo. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
