Psychological help?
Kris068 replied to Caio Peret's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I found a website that gives a really good description given by a man who has decided to lose weight. To really get the best out of this, scroll to the bottom and click on "older posts" until you reach the first entry. (so read them from the bottom- up to follow it in order). Dave Sullivan is a comedian, actor who has decided to take the weight loss journey and has been writing about his experiences and getting to know who he was before weight loss and where he is now with it all. I check every week to see how he is doing, and have been saving them on paper so I can read them occasionally as a reminder to myself. http://narcissistsrevenge.com/ -

My doctor explained the "stall" in weight pretty good. At surgery he only sewed the band into place. Any discomfort, inability to eat was simply swelling from my stomach being poked at. That stage the band is on like a loose bracelet. As you go for fills, the "bracelet" will be tightened up a bit each time, and will GRADUALLY restrict the amount of food you can hold per meal. Each fill will irritate the stomach, swelling things a bit so your first few days feel very restrictive, then "loosen up" again. This is the main difference from the gastric sleeve. We do not immediately have a tiny stomach capacity, this comes in time and multiple fills. Be patient, all will happen in time.

Exercise induced hyponatremia....low sodium (salt). Drinking Water during a workout also flushes out the sodium faster, thus why they have "sports drinks" such as Gatorade to keep your sodium levels up. Try drinking Gatorade at the gym.

Banded and have a question.....
Kris068 replied to Weightogo123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that, and just happened to have a check up at the dentist office around that time... the dentist told me I was dehydrated. There was no "cottage cheese" or anything slimy to indicate thrust (yeast infection). Things fixed up a few days later after I was able to get more fluids down. The anesthetic has a drug to prevent you from vomiting...which also dehydrates you. It took a few days to get out of my system. -

3 Days Post Op And Feeling Weird!
Kris068 replied to Raool2300's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days post operative...I have the same thing a few hours after eating. Just slow emptying as far as I can tell, which is a good thing. First few days was happening many hours after eating, now is 2-3 hours after eating. Part of the healing process. -

Make sure you are getting lots of Protein. I have only been banded for just over a week now, but I lost a pile of hair back when going through divorce. After doctor explained the need for protein and that lack of protein can cause hair loss, I realized back then I was only eating fruits and vegetables, some days nothing due to stress...but all I ate was little to no protein. It was scary to find so much hair on the floor, on the pillow, or floating in the Water in the bathtub. After boosting protein, my hair thickened up back to normal. Puree some canned Beans or refried beans and add a spoonful to any Soup you make to boost up the protein levels. I have Protein powder to add to my shakes or stir in with some foods to push the protein levels up. Diabetic Boost has higher protein in it as well. The protein also makes you able to go longer without feeling hungry.

Day 6 Post Op Eating Solid Food With No Problems! Is This Ok
Kris068 replied to Undertaker1220's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The whole point for being on liquids and puree foods is so the stitches that are holding your band in place can heal. Liquids for when you are at highest risk of having stitches become damaged. The puree stage is when the stitches are partially healed, the stomach can move a little bit without putting much pressure on the sutures. When you eat solid foods, your stomach digests the food, shakes around while further breaking down the food. The doctor gave you dates according to healing time. It is your choice, but to start sooner can put you at risk for breaking the sutures thus causing the band to slip out of place, or cause damage to the stomach if a suture gets torn out. -
It all sounds normal...I had my surgery eight days ago. The first three days were the hardest. Like you said, hard to tell if it is hunger cramps or pain....they both hurt!! Just keep trying to get tiny sips of liquid down. I used Gatorade, took all day to get one bottle down. On day three it seemed like everything suddenly opened, could drink much better.

One week for me yesterday, same thing. Remember, something has been inserted and stitched in place under there...definitely normal for it to hurt in that spot for sure.

I got banded two days ago. My preoperative diet was two weeks on liquid shakes (ordered from a medical company), day of surgery was Water only. It is good preparation for the drastic change coming...first three days were hard, but after three days the shakes began to work well. I was tossing a few pieces of frozen fruit in the blender with the shake to change the flavor around a bit. Remember....the first four weeks are a healing process. ANY solid foods even if chewed up will make your stomach "shake" around to break it down further and move it along. This digestion process can break the new stitches and/or move the band!!! Here is the list the hospital sent me home with: Days 1-2 postoperative Clear liquids only (broth, black coffee, juice, Gatorade, crystal light) - total of 8 cups daily. You may find this part difficult. I only was able to get more than a cup of liquids down about 36 hours after the operation. Days 3-14 postoperative FULL liquids - unsweetened juices, vegetable juice, tea, coffee, liquid smoothie (low fat low sugar), Skim milk, 1% chocolate milk, high Protein drinks, strained very liquid cream Soups. DO NOT USE A STRAW. This sucks in air which you do NOT need (is very uncomfortable). DAY 3 1/2 cup servings 6 times a day (3 meals 3 snacks) total 3 cups, between meals 5.5 cups water DAY 4 Increase to 3/4 cup 6 times daily (3 meals 3 snacks) total 4.5 cups, between meals 5.5 cups water Days 15-28 - pureed consistency is needed for two weeks - absolutely! Consistency like applesauce. low fat pudding, low fat yogurt (pureed if contains fruits), pureed Soup (with pureed Beans for added protein), pureed fruit with no added sugar; pureed vegetables, pureed stew, sheppard's pie, chili, spaghetti sauce, baked beans, pureed mashed potatoes, pureed hot cereals. Add liquids such as milk, broth to make things more liquidy. 1 cup per meal 1/2 cup per snack Day 28 - first fill - return to normal eating according to your tolerance. 3 meals 3 Snacks. Maximum amount consumed in one seating NOT MORE THAN ONE CUP compressed volume. Drink about 6 cups of water through the day in between meals and snacks. Never thought I would be saying it but..... tomorrow I can finally have a Protein Shake...mmmmmmm!!!

1 Wk Post Op I Just Ate Some Of A Bagle Before I Remembered My Band!
Kris068 replied to thenug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got banded two days ago. The main reason for no solid foods is so you can heal. Any solid food means your stomach "shakes" things around to break them down more and move them along the digestive tract. This movement can break the stitches and move the band. I would not play around with any more solid food until you have passed your time limit. -
I just ordered it
