Please, please do NOT tell the mad, fat, angry, dieting woman...
Draven replied to TattooBeauty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lol. My favorite is- can you pick us up Wendy's tonight when you are on liquids only. Aargh !!! -
That's great go. I noticed that myself the other day. It is becoming so much easier to pass these days. Congrats.

Ang, Im no doctor. It reads to me that he is going through a stage where he is becoming too consumed with losing weight. Maladaptive eating is a serious concern. And if he continues to eat slider food only he WILL stop losing, and could even start gaining. Remind him that vomiting is the worst thing he can do, and could cause him to lose the band altogether. Tha's what worked with getting me in check. Good luck.

Feeling kind of down...
Draven replied to GeorgiaGirlie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
75 ponds? Thats fantastic!!! You should be unbelievably proud of that. Now, for your answer- YES. I've been there. I think for the most part, we all have. my son took a video of us this weekend. Ok I admit it, it was doing the stupid harlem shake. there. glad I got that off my chest. LOL. and as i'm watching it i'm thinking- I'm HUGE!!!! i was bummed. But than had to go buy new pants and saw I was down to a 36 waist. I haven't seen that in years, along with my toes and feet and .... well , anyway, I still don't always see a change in pictures. But know there has to be one. You are doing fantastic. really. -
Thank goodness. Very glad for you.

And just for the record, where did you work during college? Lol
-
Thank u hely. Sandi, you have my complete support.
-
Sandi, I gotta say something. Reading through these posts I want you to know that I think you are such a strong, smart, and heartfelt person. I have absolutely no doubt you can do this. You can consider us your support group. We all , for the most part, have had set backs . We are all human. None of us perfect. You have taken the first step, reaching out on here. We shall all now reach back. Together we can do this. Best of luck.

I hope it got better today. Wishing you the best.

Sam, I just saw that you had your surgery awhile ago. I think I would make sure to call. It doesn't sound right to me. I have never gotten any pain from sitting for a prolonged time. And the amount of pain you are describing doesn't seem like a simple normal problem. Please keep us updated. I'm wishing you the best.

Something doesn't sound right. I sit alot, at desk and alot of driving. ALOT. And I have never felt pain from port. Is your surgery recent? I would call your doctor. If there is that much pain it is a sign of something not right.

It is cool laying in bed at night listening to yourself breathing. Soothing. And thinking- Yeah. This is what it feels like to control the Dark Side. But no matter how hard i concentrate, I cant squeeze the general's throat.

I love scuba steve!!!! My favorite part of that movie is when the guy is talking to the kid i think about a cat, and the kid asks a very innocent question and the guy yells- YOU CALLING ME A LIAR? LMAO.

Hilary, the mask idea is great. I never thought of that. i am definitely going to try that. I laugh too, because my wife is a teacher and can be found like clock work dozing on the couch around that same exact time. In all fairness, you have a very tough job. That will take alot out of you. I chaperoned a class trip with her one year because they couldn't get enough parents to go, and I slept for about three straight days after. They wore me out!! I'm a police officer. I deal with murderers and robbers every day of my life and will go out to dinner or a movie, watch t.v., and go to bed for a good nights sleep. Thirty third graders though- and I am done for. LOL. If any one ever says you have an easy job, send them my way. She has a mask too. But she stopped using it. And now she definitely naps much more than she did when she used it. It is sad though, cause the two of us laying in bed with the masks on made me feel soooo cool, like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I guess she just got fed up with my calling her Goose all night. Go figure.

I'm at 1000 cal a day. For a guy I thought that wasn't enough but still stuck to it as best as I could. My nutritionist than made a good point, She told me- if you really aim for 1000 a day and go slightly over you will still only hit like 1200 or 1300. If you aim for 1500 and go over you will be hitting at 1800 or 2000. To me that made alot of sense. I journal, and try to keep it under 1000. But some nights i still go for that bowl of popcorn during the game.

Newbie Question
Draven replied to texasteacher2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Texas. How it works, for me anyway, is that they give you fills until they find that perfect level. Where you feel full for a good time after eating, but you are not too filled that food keeps getting stuck. Everyone has a different level. So what you are trying to do is get to it. My last fill was close to too muck. I was getting stuck on any solid i tried. I was going to go back for an unfill, however my doctor and I decided it was more my issue and not the fill. I was taking too big a bite. I know some people who have never needed a fill. Others that seem to become addicted to getting fills. Every person is different. But the goal is to find that just right spot for YOU. I wish you the best of luck. -
Drinking by meals ? Solid Versus Liquid -- Satiety Study in Well-Adjusted Lap-Band Patients
Draven replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find this amazing timing. I was just having this conversation with my wife last night. I have a very hard time waiting an hour after my meal to drink something. I try not to drink while I am eating. But once I am done I want something to drink. My wife said it was one of the worst things I could do. I never felt it was detrimental in any way. I now try to hold of about ten minutes or so, but than go for my crystal light. I also found the posts interesting because I didn't realize food was passing through my band as fast as it apparently is. I thought that was the whole point of this. Fill the pouch, feel full, pouch empties into stomach, feel full longer. -
I am so sorry. Mis73, I didn't mean to leave you out of that first paragraph. I have read some of your post and get alot out of them. Thank you as well. See- I'd be the actor that gets the oscar and leaves his wife and kids out of the speach. LOL.

I first want to comment on the advice you got from jim and kime-lou. I think it is fantastic how helpful this site is! And its thanks to people like you for responding not only with knowledge, but with compassion and speed as well. And to all otheres that post, you are what makes this site great. I too wear the c-pap. The first one I had I hated. Air would blow out of it all night and hit me directly in the eye. It was terrible. I stopped using it because sleep with it was impossible. I went in and the company gave me a different mask, which worked like a charm. I started using it, and have never slept better. I dont think I would ever want to give it up. One thing I noticed is that you said you sometimes nap in the afternoon with the mask on. Could it be that you are hurting your night time sleep with that? I know if i do nap in the afternoon than sleeping at night is an impossibility for me. I am no expert. But that might be worth looking into. The other tip i got seems to have made a world of difference for me as well. I was never the best sleeper, and worked alot of swing shift jobs so staying on a schedule was impossible. I was tol to make sure that my bed was only used for sleep. ( and maybe one other thing but I wont get into that here. lol) I used to go to bed and lay watching t.v. or browsing on a lap top. I was told, get your body in the routine of bed time means sleep time. That my body would adjust over time and learn that when you go prone it's time for sleep. I cant tell you how much that has helped. It fought me in the beginning, stupid body. LOL. but after time my sleep grew more and more. Now i'm usually asleep in minutes after I lay down. C pap has made such a difference in my life. During my study they found out that i never really fell asleep. That I would never go into REM. That i would sleep the night, but never really sleep. The first time they put the mask on i was in deep rem sleep in under fifteen minutes. It was a life saver for me. Best of luck to you. I hope it works out.

Hi Sades, I feel terrible for you. I do understand there are lemons in just about everything. But this isnt something you should accept as just a lemon. I think it would be hard to now trust this doctor. Iws there a way to find out if any of their other patients have had similar problems or issues? I would also talk to a lawyer and find out what options were available to you. Maybe something towards the manufacturer of your band, maybe towards the doctor for the first surgery. Either way, I wouldn't give up on the band itself. Talk to a lawyer. maybe there could be a way you could get a different surgeon and recover financial damages to help pay for it. I do wish you the best!!!!

Had my first real date last night since being banded 2 years ago!! Yay
Draven commented on Amanda1982's blog entry in Selfesteem, Love, & Awareness
That is fantastic. I am so sorry to read about your past relationship. But the best word in that is WAS . You are right to feel that you should be shown nothing but respect and love. And we all know that it was his loss!!! I hope this man, and any other that would be lucky enough to have the privlege of taking you out on a date, realizes just how special you are. And very smart tip on looking at the menu in advance. I wouldn't have thought of that. Congrats on not only a fantastic date, but a fantastic attitude. -

Draven replied to bandedgirlxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can pretty much eat anything, except spaghetti. not ziti, rigatoni, just plain thin spaghetti. i now love brown rice sushi. three pieces only 80 calories.
