thanks for your replys and yes i did stress the journey time ect, she said to me that he very rarely turns anyone away and i asked that if i could have the fill after if he said yes and she said she didn't know if he would do it that day do you think i should call again and have him make an appoitment just incase ? i said i would come back if need be but yes it is a long drive but i am willing to do it because one tank of gas is alot less than a flight but it would be alot better to get it done in one trip. i don't know what to do really i think i was so pleased not to be told a straight no and from what i have seen on the web he is one of the most trained around here !! i just don't want to be an exsperiment , i got told that some hospitals do fill to practice for non f.d.a. approved bands but if they messed up and made a hole in my port i would flip. i don't think they wanted to say over the phone that they would do it as it is not f.d.a. approved but i got the inpression they would !! what do you think ,is he a really understanding person who will have a heart ??

anyone had surgery in England
oh2bthin replied to princesstegan0's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
i was baned in belguim and having serious trouble getting fills right now as my band is bioring and not f.d.a. approved, but if you have had a lapband put in in england is it the same as mine . oh and bt the way i am english i come from ipswich in suffolk and live here in north carolina for now (husbands military) -
i called dr.roc in concord and told them my situation and i have a consult with the doctor late febuary does any one have the same doctor i would love to know what he is like. i told them that i am self pay and the consult will cost 200 dollors so i hope he will fill me, i am excited to know i am at least being seen, i seem to just get door after door put in my face when i mention this band, i know the problem is that this band i have is not yet f.d.a. approved and that all the doctors are scared if anything goes wrong i will sue but at this point, the only other alternative is to go to europe just for a fill is just not affordable for me and so frustrating.

i went on the website about the band and it just refers to it being in belguim and a piture nothing about doctors or anything !!

hi my name is sherry and i am 36, i am married to jerry who is in the airforce and we were stationed in germany for three years. after years of failed weight loss methods i started looking into surgey and found a doctor in belguim who is one of the founders of the lapband and had it done.he has 10 years exsperiance so i was thrilled. i recovered fine and thought i would be on my way!. well oviously with the current affairs with the world my husband was deployed alot and the journey for the fills were few and far between . i have a different lapband than the one f.d.a. approved over here . it is called cousin and holds 10 cc . i had three fills and was at 6cc and feeling some restriction but not enough . then my husband and i got moved to north carolina , i got back to america and i lost it , i feel like i have beaten the band and have learned to eat through pb-ing and i am so down on myself right now as i have lost no weight what so ever . this seems almost un heard of when i read all the posts and now i am in the process of trying to find a lapband surgeon to fill me here with some exsperiance and that will see me , taken into account that i didn't have the lapband put in by him and also that i have a different type , it looks exactly the same , i think i have found one in winston-salem a dr eduardo gonzalas and i am going to call for info monday but i almost scared to tell him that i have been almost a year with no resistance and him look at me like i am crazy , we arrived in north carlina in sept 05 and had to find a house and had alot of ajustments , i have two children and one thing or another seemed to interfere with me getting this sorted out , coupled with my husband being deployed for 6 months in araq which was no fun being in a new town and the worry of him being there.i have a good friend here that is now getting a bypass done and she has been so good to me. she has been on me about getting this sorted out and a listening ear. i am a self pay so things have been on hold up til now , what with christmas but i am ready !!!!!!!.i am 200 pounds and i know alot of people say thats not that big but i gain nearly every years and its bigger enough for me !!!!!!!. i know there are the two ways to fill and want a flouro just to make sure that its o.k and hasn't moved ect or leaked , my belguim doctor didn't do flouro on me but i think this is the best one to have as i have gone so long nearly a year without one, all i hope is that i am one fill away and i start the weight loss road i have been so depressed lately and its put alot of pressure on my relationship with my husband and i , he is my real hero and supports me so much my my self asteem is shot.he is away once again now and will be back mid-feb and priority number one is the fill.so until then i am waiting and trying to stay positive and i would love for someone to get back to me with kind words and any help they think they can give ! i am sorry its such a long message but now you have the full story !!

just had a phone call from dr.g and he will not fill me (help) i was in tears for about ten minutes and now hit a brick wall. its a bioring brand which is used in europe . i am so dissapointed i have gone onto the website about the band and nothing . -
vericks , is it the operation itself you are worryed about if so don't, i have had various things done including lypo and believe me its alot less painful. as far as weight loss surgery i think this is the future and YES it works. i had my band put in from a doctor in belguim and he has been doing lapband surgery for ten years . it is so new to the u.s.a. but its been going on in europe for alot longer. i think it is the newness of it that worrys people and i exspect like me you get alot of people say lapband what is that ?? i think as time goes by here in the states its going take over the bypass. whats your b.m.i and how far have you looked into the lapband

a long lapband story ! (i need support)

well i called dr g office and spoke to a lovely lady who answered all my questions and i was thrilled to know he will be probably call me wednesday or thursday as apparently i have a french band made by boiring and it needs different needles ?? i thought for a minute they were going to say that they didn't have those but she thinks he does. i didn't even realise that there were different ones. i had to laugh as she asked if i looked at the needle the belguim doctor used and i said NO as i tended to look away !!!. i do have alot to ask dr .g though as up to now i was not told about alot of the food i should eat and am now finding out that i have been eating all wrong. i went on slush at first actually i used to eat baby cereal as i like it !! and i figured it was one food with all the vitamins i needed but after realising i could still eat pretty much what i won'ted as there was no resriction i went back to all the usual junk slowly and returning to the land of all you can eat it was a real battle to be good. i am now trying to just keep on a low carb diet until the fill and have ordered the lapband book and one my friend recomended called eating well after weight loss surgery, does anyone have this and what did you think of it . she is having a bypass but it referes to lapband all the way through it also. i know it must sound that i didn't get alot of info on my band but my doctor spoke limited english and i quess everything is different there as he just told me to just avoid sugar , nothing about bread and carbs ect infact he told me to eat toast for breakfast !!!. well i will keep you posted and thankyou everyone for you kind words especially about my husband , he is in the airforce and the military life can be emotional rollercoaster and thats about the last thing you need when you eat for comfort !!!!. i have been in north carolina for about a year and my husband has been deployed 7 and half months out of that but is home now , he is in alabama right now at a special school for non-commisioned officers for 6 weeks ,so once again i am alone but i am so excited for his return , we will have our taxes and i can get the fill as i am self pay . well thats it for today keep in touch lapband buddys sherry -

thankyou thankyou , i am going to call dr g in the morning do you think he will be able to see me fairly soon? i have limited paper work on my op and some of it is in belguim !! but i can get xrays i had done after the op from the base medical records. and as far as fills i think i won't my first after this long to be flouro and then if i need more to be just the basic one , i have a question do you know if they draw out the fluid thats supposed to be in your band first and re-fill or does dr g just add ? oh and by the way i live in fayettevill nc, and there are other surgeons closer but they do not fill from other surgeons, dr g, is the only one i have heard of that does ? near me anyway. i can't wait to have that cute little chart under my messages with the chart that goes down but i have faith in this i just won't this to do its job, you would not believe ther amount of friends and family that have said its a waste of time and to get it taken out !!!!, i try to exspain to them if you had a pair of pants that were to big and you had a belt around it and the belt wasn't pulled tight your pants would fall down well thats what the food is doing , some get it but its so frustrating as they see me as just the same sherry after paying all that money , i so want to lose the weight just to say see it works !!. i wish now i had never told as many people as i did , i find them looking at me and i can see there faces maybe its me being paranoid but i get a bad feeling , i know there probably saying to thereself how can she still eat like that. i know my bands not full enough as i get really bad hunger pains between meals where after fill three , i wasn't hungry at all and was great but now i do its like its worn off is this possible ??? opps i have done it again and wrote my axx off sorry just very pleased to have people to relate to after such a long time thanks -
does anyone out there know if there is a fill doctor anywhere close to north carolina, i had my lapband op in europe and i am worried as i know its a little different to the f.d.a approved ones hear in the states and i know i need a fill and feeling like if i don't find somewhere soon my whole op would have been a waste of time as i am slowly feeling less and less restriction. if anyone out there can give me somewhere east coast i would be very grateful. the closest to north carolina the better and some idea how much it might cost as i have no idea what i am looking at , as my fills were included with op. hope to hear from someone soon before i drift into an all you can eat resturant .
-
i have had alot of people say didn't i check this out before i had the op, well the short one to that is most definately but i am married to military and had to leave our posting in germany and now are hear in the u.s . i am not a dummy i know its serious to have this done and but thankyou to all those people who just answered back without being patronizing

i have had two fills and am at 4cc and feel little restriction ? i eat alot less and stay full for alot longer so i suppose the band is working .i have lost 10lb to date since may but still eat a fairly good size meal, well not enough to lose steadily . i know my doctor will give me another fill but i am getting this done in europe and i think i have had a newer type band .i am concerned that everyone else seems to have had alot less than me with far better results is there bands that take far more fills than others ??my band is called cousin (gastric banding bioring)has any one else out there had 4 cc or more ? 3rd fill due 8th july;)
-
i have had my band two weeks and i am feeling worried as i am able to eat almost everything like before and have lost no weight !! i lost 7 pounds in hospital . but nothing since. i told my doctor and he said this is normal before my first fill but i don't feel any full feeling and worried its not working.
-
hey everyone i did it i got brave and weighed myself and i have lost another 2lb yippi , i am so happy !!
-
hey everyone , well i had my second fill and i am now starting to feel it. i recently went to a pampered chef party and couldn't eat hardly anything and as i watched everyone filling there face i felt so good that i was able to say no. it was so funny as the hostess thought i had had my wisdom teeth out and that was why i wasn't eating i got a real giggle out of that. i am scared to death of the scales right now and won't go on as i am scared that it is going to say i haven't lost . i think i am going to fix a day once a week and leave it at that. i am eating alot less but i really don't think its coming off yet as its only been a few days. the only thing i think is strange is i can eat alot easier than i can drink. has anyone else had this ?. i have only lost 7lb since my op in may 18th but its off and its not going back on !!! thats the way i see it and i have lost this before and like all diets gained it back and some.i have been really lazy on the exercise so i think once i get back to the gym i will see more come off.the food that i really can't do is soft white bread and solid meat especially chicken breast and pork but its not bothering me as i love fish and just replace it with that.soda is a big no no and i do miss that but i have have the odd sip and it makes me hiccup straight away but its enough to stop the craving.other than that i am glad i am now feeling something . i made the big mistake of telling to many people i was getting this done and so many people think this is just like the gastric bypass and are asking constantly asking me how much weight i have lost and its getting on my nerves as when i say 7lb i know there thinking "is that all" but i will be leaving where i am living soon and i am not telling a sole when i move . so if i could give any advice is don't tell to many people !! but i am happy at my slow loss and know its gone for good !!.

i am so glad i have found this site . i am getting my first fill on the 10th of june and a little nervous. will i feel the difference straight away?.

thankyou for your reply, i am english and i had my lap band done in belguim with a doctor who has been doing it for about 8 years so i was glad to have a doctor who was one of the first pioneers of it but his english is limited and he didn't really exsplain too much about this stage. i am really getting excited about my first fill as i have recovered so well and i was started to think the band wasn't even in there!! i think the hardest thing is knowing when to stop. its definately the hardest thing for me as i always seem to eat until i feel really full. i cook meals for my family every day and i think i will have to eat alone. i feel like my family are looking at me and saying how is she still eating this after the op. i feel guilty as i was a self pay and i have every one asking " so how much have you lost already and i have to exsplain the procedure and why theres been no results yet. i was a border line case as i am 196 lb do you think this will make a difference on amount of weight comes off, as it seems like some bandsters that are 300lb plus drop pounds really fast ??
