  1. Just wanted to check in. I'm almost three weeks post op and down 50 lbs from preop diet. I'm doing great, starting to eat more "normal" types of food. I feel great! I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for all the support as I began this journey. I was very nervous and hasn't been bad at all. Those last few days before surgery, reading people's stories on this forum got me through. So glad I did this.

    New feeling

I've recently learned about that feeling too. My doc refers to that as a soft stop. BigOboy, I was telling art how weird it is for me to see my plate with a small amount of food on it and know I will be satisfied with it. Kinda nice.

    Anasthesia got me worried!

I was just banded last week, I was worried about the same thing. Im a big ol boy too, so I understand. You'll be fine man, I'm so glad I did it. 9 days out and 40 lbs down from preop to now. It's worth it!

    Bullies?

Sorry to hear that, I was never bullied but I know that people had opinions about my weight. I have a pretty sharp tongue so I think most people knew to keep there opinions to themselves. I understand the feelings of wanting to keep this process private, but I just figured I'm gonna tell everybody. If someone has an opinion about it one way or the other the can kiss my a@&. This is our struggle, and unfortunately you can't really keep struggles with weight hidden like other struggles. Everybody has a struggle, and if they say they don't then they are liars. I posted on Facebook the day of my surgery" I had lapband today. So in few few months if I'm thinner, you will know why. And if I'm still fat...judge me in silence???Š". Take away the ammunition and hold your head high. I'm sorry there are rude people in your life. I wish the best for you, just know that there are many others in your corner, even if only in spirit. Good Luck!

    Scared-someone tell me it's ok

I had diarrhea too. Banded last Monday. Could be the post op anti biotics? I take some probiotics and that has helped. Yogurt helps too.

    Not sure what to do

I struggled with this too. My doctor does both so he didn't seen to have a bias. I just liked the fact that if there ever was a problem (god forbid) they could take it out. The sleeve is a riskier surgery, and once your stomach is gone...it's gone. The problems with the band are usually fixable and not that serious, but anything can happen. I know people who have bands and people who have sleeves. Both with successes and bumps in the road. Either one is a tool, I just wanted least risk, with most reward. Good luck in your decision. My band is still new, but I'm happy I did it. I learned that asking this question sometimes turns into a Ford's vs. Chevy's conversation. With a good doctor and good discipline I think both a relatively safe and successful.

    European opinion

In an ideal world, we would have been able to get our weight issues under control without surgery. It is important to me to think about what these studies consider complications. A complication can range from pain at the port to vomiting to complete catastrophic slippage. The vast majority of the complications reported were things I determined to be minor compared with the risks of being obese. There is no perfect answer, but for me knowing that if there was a problem or if something better comes along, they could take the band out. I have no regrets, but I was just banded on Monday???Š. Nothing wrong with dissent though..,I have lost 30 plus pounds since preop and still have my stomach intact, so I feel good. Every person has to ultimately decided the risk/benefit analysis for themselves though. I have friends who went the sleeve route and they are happy too. I just personally couldn't wrap my brain around that.

    Surgery Done Today

I agree wadeg, it was not too bad at all. I'm glad it went well for you. To the nervous people out there. It is really not as bad is I feared. Rest easy, it's totally manageable. I was just banded Monday.
  10. I had surgery this morning and am home now. Not to bad with the pain. Able to sip ok. The gas pain in my shoulders is there but manageable. All in all, not to terrible so far. I am wishing my other June 10 peeps good wishes today, ArtM and metsmomma. Hope all is well with everyone. Thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes from everyone too. It helped. Eric
  11. Metsmomma how did it go for you?
  12. Time4kim, it went pretty well. I'm doing fine, just a little sore. Gas pain but nothing crazy, my stomach is just gurgling like crazy. I feel good overall though. I'm ready to get out of the house, and I miss rough housing with my 2 1/2 year old.
  13. Good luck wadeg7! I was banded yesterday, and i feel kinda like you about my fave foods. It will be worth it to be healthy though. I stuck to my preop diet pretty well and my surgeon said it made a big difference. Let us know how it goes!
  14. I definitely had last supper syndrome, but I kept somewhat in check. However I nailed the two week preop diet and lost 26 pounds before the surgery. Granted it sucked, and I'm a big guy @ 6'4" 415-420 depending on the day, so in these beginning days I can drop weight pretty fast. However keeping it off has always been my problem. Just live within reason, and rock that preop diet. My surgeon said it really made a big difference. Banded today @ 394. You are not alone!
  15. Dee it's not that bad. Just walk around and get those Gas X strips. I've had some gas pain but nothing that is too bad. I'm praying for you! You will do fine. Let us know!
  16. Well, the day has come. I'm nervous but excited to start this new adventure. I wish all of my June 10 buddies luck tomorrow. I will say a little prayer for us all.

    Tomorrow is the day!!!!!

Good luck all, 7 am here too. Nervous and excited!
  18. Hope you feel better txflea. I'll bet tomorrow is better.
  19. I'm right there with ya bud. Hope all goes well for us! I'll say a little prayer on Monday for all of us, but I look toward to seeing all of our successes.
  20. I've never had surgery before and I'm definitely nervous too. June 10, but I'm just ready to get on with it. I figure it will be over before we know what hits us. Good luck.
  21. Weekend was hard but I made it. I've done pretty well and it is starting to get better. My pre-op diet is 3 protein shakes, a can of soup, and a Greek yogurt. I lost about 18 lbs week one. There have been a couple if days when I was working in the yard that I had to eat a little beef jerky. I have also had a baby bel cheese once or twice. I've been pretty disciplined though. I am hungry when I get home from work, but feeling my clothes fit a little better keeps me motivated. Come in June 10th! Good luck everyone...we can do this! It's comforting to me to know others are going through the same thing.
  22. Well we are almost half way there! Doing ok here, I was doing some intense yard work and started feeling weak so I ate some beef jerky. Other than that, I'm sticking to it. Kinda had a headache today, but nothing too bad. Hope you guys are doing well.
  23. Yep, I don't really get chicken and salad. I do 3 protein shakes, a Greek yogurt, and a can of soup. Chicken would be golden! However, at least we get to eat something, a lot of people on here are not getting any food, just liquid. I'm 6'4 and 415 lbs, so I get an extra protein shake. Good luck tonight man! We will be done soon. Just two weekends.
