Well, I talked to the Doc today. They set my appt. to meet with the surgeon this Wednesday. They said I would be paying my surgeons fee that day so I'm guessing they are pretty confident that my paperwork will be approved. They also set my appt. with the nut doctor for the following Monday. I am so excited and yet still nervous about being approved. Does it sound like I'm on the fast track to my surgery? I sure hope so.

Physically demanding Job, How long from work?
BigOBoy123 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a Correctional Officer in a maximum security Penitentiary. My job requires a lot of running, lifting, prolonged walking and standing as well as fighting. When compared to other careers, how long would you suggest I be away from work after my surgery? -
Psych appt done today. What else?
BigOBoy123 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my psych appt. done today and the psych Dr. Gave me the green light to get the surgery. My question is do I have to meet with the nutritionist before they send my paperwork to my insurance company for approval? Thanks in advance. -
Psych appt done today. What else?

The psych veal wasn't too bad. I had to take a 384 (fill in the bubble questionnaire) Very tiresome. Then I talked with the psych doctor himself and he basically just wants to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into and that you have a lot of support from family and friends. -

The staff at Dr. Mobley's office are very nice people and Dr. Mobley's assistant told me that I had the most thorough paperwork she had ever seen. I sent them tons of paperwork like my sleep study which diagnosed me with obstructive sleep apnea, blood work that I recently had done which showed I was diabetic, 2 years worth of medical history, 6 months worth of diet info, a referral letter from my family Dr. And some others. And the psych Dr. Gave me the green light to have the surgery done. So everything is going good. Thanks for the reply. It's so good to talk to someone who has had the surgery done by the same folks. Please keep in contact with me, as I may have other questions. Thanks again. -
Psych appt done today. What else?

My insurance required one psych evaluation. I'm not sure if my insurance requires a nutritionist appt. before approval, but I have already had a sleep test which diagnosed me with obstructive sleep apnea.. I sent them all that paperwork plus a copy of my blood work I recently had taken, 2 years worth of medical history and some other things. The staff at my clinic said I had the most thorough paperwork they had ever seen. So that's good -
Is the nutritionist appt. part of the approval process. Will this have to happen before my paperwork is sent in?

That's great. Hope all goes well.

That's is so comforting to hear. I'm glad your experience with him was a good one. I'm looking forward to my surgery. Getting ready for my psych appt. this morning. -
Thanks SueBee01.

Anyone on here had or going to have their surgery done at this facility? My surgeon is Dr. Mobley in Somerset Ky.
-
What can be expected when meeting with the psych doctor? My appt. is at 9:30 in the morning.

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. I sent all my paperwork to my surgeon. I go for my psych eval this Monday.

My Doctors office called me today and told me that they had recieved my paperwork and that they wanted to schedule my psych eval appointment. She said that is was highly unlikely that I would be denied since I sent them above and beyond their requirements such as a referral letter from my Family Doc, and blood work showing I am diabetic, my obstructive sleep apnea paperwork, High BP, and others too. I am scheduled for my psych eval on Monday morning. Since they are setting me an appointment to meet the psych, is this an indication that things are going good in the process? Just wondering. Thanks.

Well, I just sent all my required paperwork out this morning in the mail. I am hoping I hear something quickly. I have hounded my doctors office to death about trying to make sure I send everything the insurance company needs in order to make this as quick as possible. If approved I still have to meet with the psych and nut doctors but from what I have read on here, that's a one time thing. So maybe ill be approved, meet with them and get to set my surgery date. I have never had any surgery in my life so I am nervous but excited as I'm sure most on here can relate with. Please pray that all goes well.

Thanks. That makes me feel so much better.

BCBS Federal Requirements for Lap Band
BigOBoy123 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the beginning stages of getting my lap band and I need to know if BCBS Federal Basic requires 6 consecutive months of documentation of me being on a diet plan from a doctor. I read on a website that BCBS as of April 2012 did not require this documentation. Is this true. I hope it is. Thanks. -
The 3 consecutive months were June, July and August of 2012

BCBS Federal Requirements for Lap Band
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I called my insurance which is BCBS Federal to get their requirements they said one of them was proof of three months of supervised weight loss. I'm just wondering if this 3 month period has to be immediately before the surgery, or can it be any 3 months before, but within the last year. If so I already have that 3 months worth od data. -
I have BCBS Federal too. Do they require the 3 month weight records to be immediately before the surgery or can it be any 3 consecutive months before?

Why do you have to redo your program? Does your insurance require your weight loss program to be immediately before the surgery or can it be anytime before the procedure? -
Congratulations. I hope I'm saying this before too long. Great motivation for me.

Thanks guys. You all have been awesome. So far I have been to my first seminar with my surgeon and got the required paperwork to send back to them. I called my insurance provider BCBS and they said I had to show 3 months of prior weight loss documentation. I already have that so I should be good to go with everything else that is required. I am so ready to get this done, I hope I dont have to ait much longer. Can you guys tell me how long you were off work after your surgery? I am a Correctional Officer so my job is pretty physically demanding and do not want to risk getting ina fight and hurting myself due to the surgery. Thanks.
