Anyone else banded from or around Laurel County
BigOBoy123 replied to jenriley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in Jackson county and was banded by Dr. Mobley. He's fantastic. Was banded June 21st and I have list 54lbs so far. Best decision I ever made. -
I have discussed with my Doc that I do not want to lose my size, but just the fat from my body as I intend to retain the muscle that I have and to build new muscle as well. I am 6"2 and currently 263lbs. Has anyone ever taken supplements with the Lap Band? How did it work out for you? And when I say supplements I mean things like Green Tea, Yamimbi Bark, etc.

Supplements with Lap Band
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking to start taking green tea, Yamimbi, and maybe a B12. Also would like to find an herbal supplement to help with metabolism. I already take a men's 1 a Day and 2 Flintstone vitamins a day. -
Ask your Doctor how many cc's are in your band. He/She will definitely know. I have kept notes throughout my entire Lap Band journey on my iPhone and every time I get a fill I record my weight and how many cc's the doc put in or take and how I feel with that amount in my band (restriction wise). It's a good idea to record as much as possible when dealing with the Lap Band I have found.

I havent been on here in a while because my life has been pretty hectic lately. My Wife and myself are expecting twins soon so we have been trying to plan a baby shower and working on their new room, PLUS!! we are in the process of building a new home so needless to say with all that going on plus my Wife's hormones being in a fit I havent had time to look up. LOL!! Anyways,, I was banded June 21st 2013 and since then I have had 4 fills totaling 6 1/2 cc's and as a result I have lost 43lbs. ( I will try and post Updated pics soon) I am very happy with my progress but I am still waiting to achieve the all mighty GREEN ZONE!! My question is... How long did it take for you to achieve the GREEN ZONE? I have a certain amount of restriction but the food keeps going through the band after just a few seconds. I keep asking myself when will the food stop at the top and stay there so I can achieve fulness quicker? My Dr. says once I hit that mark the weight will melt off me. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE and Question!!!
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the help and best wishes. We are beyond blessed, by the ay we're having two little boys. Names are going to be Brody and Branson. Cant wait to finally meet them. -
Ok, so I went and got my second fill of 1 1/2 cc's which puts me at a total of 4 cc's. But im having trouble eating. As I chew and swallow I feel the food stop at the band and it is immediately uncomfortable. After a few seconds i then feel the food pass through the band. This seems to happen with most meals. My Doctor assures me that I am not in the green zone yet because I am only maintaining my weight and not losing any. But what am I suppose to do if this discomfort continues? I do admit to having a lot of trouble taking small bites and chewing everything up good so could that be the problem? I hope so...And just so I can get some perspective can anyone describe their bite sizes when they eat, I think if I could get a better visual of the proper bite size it may help me. Thanks.

Needing some HELP!!
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the help guys. With all the small bites and chewing should I be able to eat latge amounts of food/ For instance, yesterday my Wife cooked pork chops, corn on the cob, green beans, corn bread, and mac and cheese. I was able to finish all of it, I took small bites and chewed the crap out of it and didnt have any trouble eating it. But I thought with the band that my portion size would be dramatically smaller but this is not the case so far. Does the smaller portions come when I hit the green zone or what? -
Ive been banded since June 21st, and I have had one fill which was 2 1/2 cc's in a 14 cc band. Aftrer the surgery I had no restriction whatsoever, but ever since I had the fill I have had trouble with food getting stuck above the band and then eventually passing on through the band. My question is this...Am I not chewing enough? I realize food is going to pass through the band because I have not hit the green zone yet, but is it normal to feel this pain and sensation with every meal? And when I do finally hit the green zone, will I always expierence this pain when I am full?

Psych Eval-Feeling Frustrated.
BigOBoy123 replied to smpin1176's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some psychologists are kinda wierd on things. When I went for my psych eval I almost had him laying on the couch telling me about his childhood. It was kinda funny to be honest. he actually said he had never had an evaluation go this way and that I should have been a psychologist. HAHA! -
Got my first fill. He put in 2 1/2 cc's in my 14 cc band. Came home and my lovely Wife made dinner so I was anxious to see if I had and difference in my eating, but to my surprise their was none. I understand it may take several fills to reach the green zone, I guess I was just hoping for a quick result. Maybe in 2 weeks when I get my next fill I will be able to tell a difference.

First fill complete.

@ dawalsh, you say you haven't hit the green the green zone yet? Have you lost weight throughout since surgery, or are you just maintaining, or gaining?? -
First fill complete.
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. He said I could eat right away. -
It's my birthday and I'm getting my first fill. Happy Birthday to me. LOL!

First oof let me say that I am 21 days post op and other than the surgical incisions I am back to normal as far as manuverability. I have yet to have a fill but that is coming up on the 17th. I still however feel a little restriction when I eat so I just keep in mind to chew chew chew everything until it's mush. I am eating a lot of different kinds of foods, but no meatsor breads. My diet has consisted of eggs, Mashed taters<<<Sorry about the Country Twang there, Fish, and other things that will be easily swallowed. All in all I am doing really good. So far I have lost 21lbs including my pre op diet and lookinf very forward to my first fill. NOW onto my actual question. I have read numerous topics about band slippage, getting stuck and other things associated with the band, but has anyone ever heard of a band just coming unbuckled? I havent had this happen, I'm just curious, and if this did happen how would a person know if it has happened? Thanks.

I am about 22 or 23 days Post-Op and I am scheduled for my first fill on the 17th. One of my questions is, I am pretty close but not entirely healed up at my incision sites. Will the Doc still do the fill? From the looks of things, he will be inserting the needle directly into the incision on my stomach. My other question is, I feel like I could eat just about any type of food that I want and as much as I could before the surgery but at the same time, when I lose track of what I am doing and take too big of a bite and try to swallow it, I can feel it slow down near the band and I have to stop and wait for it to go down. I do chew my food up really well, I just think I am taking too large of a bite. Is that the reason for the stuck feeling?

Ever heard of this???
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reply everyone. It's a pretty scary thought of your band coming unbuckled. -
Dont worry, I'm on day 21 and I sometimes feel like I could eat a whole pizza but as soon as I start tyo eat something that full feeling comes back. I have yet to have any fill put in my band but the restriction is there somewhat. I get my first fill the 17th of this month. Looking forward to it. Good luck.

What should I be feeling when I am full with the band. I know this feeling may be specific to each person, but I need to know what you guys felt when you were full. As for me instead of just feeling full I feel pain, and I have spasms all the way up my neck. I havent had a choking feeling or anything, but I definately feel a pain in my throat. I have also noticed that my stomach growls and bubbles a lot. Is that normal? And my hunger has come back as well. I am 12 days post op and I have no gas pains or any pain near or around my port or any of my incisions, the only pain I have is when I am guessing I am full. Even though the scale says different I feel like I have gained all of my pre op weight back. I was down to 274 and now I am back up to 278 which really makes me angry. I have read on here that the hunger will return as you heal after surgery so I kinda understand the weight gain. I just hope I dont have to wait much longer on my first fill. I would imagine I'll have to wait until my incisions are completely healed up. My Doc said that by the #rd of July which is my next appt. with him, I should be eating fish and today I ate two pieces of fish from Captain D's so I guess thats following the Doc's orders. Anyways, what I am trying to say is that I feel like I have taken a step back instead of forwards with this weight gain. And I so dislike seeing the hunger return. Although I have enjoyed being able to eat somewhat solid foods I would rather the hunger stay away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.,

Went for my first Doc appointment since my surgery. He said I was doing great and I will be ready for my first fill on the 17th which just so happens to be my Birthday so that will be a nice present to myself. He also said to be prepared to gain some weight between now and my fill date and to not worry about it and focus on finishing the healing process. He said the weight gain is totally normal and once I had the fill those pounds plus more would vanish quickly. So excited to get the fill.

1st post op appt.
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what he said. Not to worry about te weight gain because once a fill is done they would melt away. -
What's full feel like to you?
BigOBoy123 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. The fish I ate was baked fish and the two pieces I did eat had been the biggest meal I've had since my surgery. After those two pieces of naked fish I felt stuffed. My hunger like I did has returned but not as much as before my surgery. I jus keep body with walking and exercising to keep from paying too much attention to head hunger. -
Today marks day 7 Post -Op and I'm feeling almost normal. I still have mild soreness around my port incision and the gas pains have been gone for about 3 days. I found out this morning that I am still not ready to sleep laying down in bed so it looks like a few more nights of sleeping in the recliner. My starting weight was 303lbs and as of this morning I weighed in at 276lbs and i seem to be losing about a pound a day. Keep in mind that is including my pre-op weight loss. I am on mushy foods now so I have been eating things like mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, apple sauce, pudding, etc. As far as side effects I am having a spasm like feeling in my throat/chest. Seems to happen only when I am up and moving around so hopefully that will be a thing of the past shortly. I'm trying to remember to take small bites and chew everything until its mushy but that part is really hard because I am one of those people who take large bites chew only a couple times then swallow. The same thing goes for drinking. I take huge gulps and swallow. I literally could drink a bottle of water in one gulp and be done so sipping on anything is so frustrating. I actually remember that I would wonder why people pack around a bottle of water or pop for so long and not just chug it. I would never have a glass or bottle of liquid for more than 5 minutes ever. I guess I thought the same way with food because I was always the first person to clear my plate. Anyways, this is just an update of my progress.

Thanks so much everyone, this really helps. I actually talked to my Mom afterwords and I felt like I needed to apologize and when I did she asked me what I was sorry about and that she understood completely. She just hatd it for me because she knows how I enjoyed setting around the table with my Family and talking. She also told me that in time she knows I will be at athe table a healthier and happier man because of this and that she Loves me very much. Gotta love those Moms. Nothing in this world like em.
