Confused and disappointed
Lady VS replied to Jerseydiva15's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally understand how you feel. Trust your team they know what they're doing. I had to cut carbs out too for the first two years. You can do it. Best wishes -
Help I don't think my band is any good.
Lady VS replied to forwardlooking's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You've lost 50lbs so I'd say your band is working mighty fine. You're just in need of a fill that's all. -
Hopefully it will all be over soon. Hopefully the ball will get rolling quicker after your appointment on Friday. Good luck

after being approved a year later the surgeon denied me
Lady VS replied to jennabean44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow! That's messed up. I'm glad you were able to find another hospital. Blessing being sent your way. -
You'll be just fine as long as you follow your bariatric team's orders. Best wishes to you.

Doing great with the rules
Lady VS replied to bulawookie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I like those rewards. Sounds like fun. Keep up the great work and positive attitude. -
Hello fellow bandsters, ex-bandsters, and bandster wannabes. I am not posting this to beat anybody up or anything like that so please don't take it that way, but I'm just writing because I can't understand why so many people feel as though the band has fell them. So I'm ranting basically. I have been reading many posts in which people who have had surgery around the same time as myself and even after me are having or has had complications with their band and I can't understand that. Grant it, I do understand that many have had success and because of other issues with their body they had to have their fluids removed for either pregnancy or other surgeries and for whatever reason, the band is selfish. It doesn't apparently want us to have babies or other surgeries that we need for our continued overall good health. Okay, I get that and the band stops working and needs to be removed. Okay, cool. However, I have read other peoples stories and apparently funds were not available for aftercare to get the proper adjustments needed to stay restricted. I keep reading posts that state they never achieved the "sweet spot" and all I can say is I'm sorry. If you are self-pay, again, I'm sorry that you weren't able to keep getting your fills because proper fill capacity is the key. Yes, I realize many of you also have to drive miles and hours just to get that and believe me, I understand gas and money these days. But at the same time, you should have been given the guidelines to follow in order to successfully lose weight (types of food to eat and avoid and amounts) and if your bariatric team did not do that, then shame on them. The band can't say, however, "Don't put that ice cream in your mouth. Don't drink this or eat that." Only you have total control of what goes in your mouth. I have also read many people's journeys in which they didn't even need fills and have lost impressive amounts of weight. To you I applaud and congratulate you because I was not that fortunate. I had to get my fills and unfills when I was too tight. That's another problem I keep reading about over and over. If you are too tight, you will not lose weight you are in the red zone and are setting yourself up for failure. I hated that I had to get an unfill or two or three because I loved that tightness and I wanted to lose weight so bad, but I'm so glad that I listened to my professionals because it paid off in the end. So what am I saying, the band does not fail. YOU FAIL, I'm sorry. There are some unfortunate souls that well your body just doesn't want as you say something "foreign" in you. Well, God bless you and I hope you have found another way to lose weight. For you new people, IT IS NOT EASY!!!!!! Even in maintainence, it's not easy. Again, if you have the proper restriction YOU WILL NOT OVER EAT PERIOD. Can you eat anything you want? Yes for some of us but not everything. After being banded, some foods and drinks we just can't do and that is a plus for many of us because we don't need them in the first place. Why is it still hard in maintainence? Because you have to still be careful about not eating too fast and chewing your food really good so that you don't get stuck. For me and I'm sure for a few others, that is a daily struggle. So all in all, the band is a great tool to help you lose weight if YOU REALLY WANT TO, but YOU have to do the work. The band is just placed around your stomach and that's it. It doesn't think for you. Again, I'm not trying to disrespect anyone but just clarifying the fact that the band doesn't fail by itself. Best wishes to all of you.

It took a while for me to get those last few pounds off as well and then it didn't stop until I reached ten pounds under reaching my goal. I had to get a fill and cut out carbs completely and then the plateau was over. You will get there but don't get discouraged if it takes you the next two to six months to lose those last few pounds. Good luck.

Welcome to banderland. Yes, you will be hungry often. Best wishes to you.

What Do You Do When a Craving Hits?
Lady VS replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have cravings all the time and usually I feed my craving depending on what it is. For example, just two days ago, I was craving a funnel cake, well there is no carnival in town so that means no funnel cake. But if I'm craving pizza or something I can actually purchase like peach cobbler that I bought a little small container of I eat it. I will eat a slice or two of pizza or buy the pizza bites and I'm good. I have had two spoonfuls of the cobbler and well it's just sitting in the refrigerator. Don't want it any more. In the past, I would have eaten a whole pizza or bought a whole thing of cobbler and cooked from the frozen food section and would have eaten almost all of it. So I'm grateful for my band because it is really allowing me to control how much I eat. So my vote was for giving in to my cravings and worry about the consequences later but I don't worry because I'm not overindulging. -
Finally feeling good about myself
Lady VS replied to ddsweighin228's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
30 pounds since April is fantastic. Keep up the great work. Congratulations! -
Sorry to hear about your brother. If your stats are correct you just had surgery last month. If you have lost 12 lbs, then you are exactly where you should be. One should lose between 4 to 8 lbs a month so don't be discouraged you are doing great. Best wishes to you.

Oh most definitely. My band has a mind of it's own. Everyday is a new adventure. I never know how much I will eat each day. However, I have NEVER had a problem with drinking except when I was too tight and that was over a year and a half ago when I was still seeing my doc on the regular. Next month will be a year since my last fill and I feel great. Some days I just stick to liquids when I'm feeling a little tighter than usual. Most days I have liquids for breakfast and have lunch and dinner. And then there are those rare days that well I eat from the time I get up until late evening. It's like I'm starving. Grant it when I say eat I'm talking Protein. I love meat so I'll usually eat on chicken all day literally. LOL As much as I love salads I've noticed lately my body not taking too kindly to the roughage of lettuce so I eat broccoli, cooked carrots, etc. But for some reason this past week, I've been craving omelets like you wouldn't believe. So I prepare one egg with tomato, onion, and cheese and that literally has been keeping me full all day. I usually eat that around 11:30 to 12 noon central standard time. So yes, it is a learning experience and when you pay really close attention to what the band is saying to you (hypothetically), you guys can make it and you will lose weight. Good luck and continued success on this crazy weight loss journey.

How can you tell in the Dr Office if you are filled enough?
Lady VS replied to Christina.Rose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First off you shouldn't be chugging water but sipping. You should also suggest that they do your next fill undo fluoroscope with barium so that they can see just how tight the band is around you. Don't give up and be discouraged. You'll get there. Best wishes to you. -
14 months post op, Band to Sleeve
Lady VS replied to Kristina J.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sorry you had problems with both your bands but congratulations on your weight loss with the sleeve. You Rock!!!! -
Hi Freedom, I'm just curious as to what happened that caused your band to slip and when they found that it had, why didn't the doctor completely unfill you at that time so that the band could possibly reset itself? What kind of symptoms did you have that made you almost go to the ER? I'm sorry you're having problems but it will get better once you're completely unfilled and back on liquids for a while.

Hi there I totally agree with RJ and Lisa. I don't feel she is sabotaging you, it's a matter of her used to you guys eating and drinking the same things. However as Lisa said, this is Your journey and not Hers. You are going to have to have a heart to heart with her and tell her you need her support in this and if she can't support you wanting to change then you may have to suggest not eating out with her anymore if you feel it necessary. I hope it doesn't come to that but it's all about you and your health. Best of luck to you.

Hi there just a little confused. At first you said you were a little tight and things were coming up. Next you said you could eat pizza and other foods well and are wondering if you should get a small fill. Please clarify. Thanks and congratulations on losing the 26 lbs. -

My paper finally being submitted
Lady VS replied to sylvia45's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds like you're off to a good start. Best wishes to you. -
Yes, it is normal for your band to feel really tight and yes, it does have a mind of it's own. You have to learn to listen to what it's telling you everyday. However, if you can't keep liquids and solid food down, then you maybe too tight and need a small unfill. Best wishes.
