Do fills/Stuck episodes cause headaches for anyone else?
aeromech replied to dolphintattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Interesting, I always go after lunch time to get mine done. Maybe that's why I don't get a headache. My next appointment is later in the day, I will test this theory. -
Very true, most people don't even know till the surgeon is in there and comes across it. I got a pic of mine along with the band... Lol
-
I had one, didn't know about it till after the surgery. Keep in mind that you might have a tight feeling that may be your band or may be the repair and that should go away in a few weeks. My hernia repair took 2 stitches and was tight to the esophagus and I had to get the 4cc primer of saline from the surgery taken out until the repair healed and loosened. Hopefully you won't have to experience it, but if you do, at least you are aware. The surgery happens so fast you don't even realize you were asleep. Went very smooth for me as it should for you.

I don't get headaches from the fills, but stuck episodes make me feel nauseated for sure. Pretty nasty feeling. -
For me, it depends on who is doing it. The first time I got Fluid removed and the needle didn't hurt at all, the same nurse took fluid again due to my hernia repair healing and irritation of he esophagus. The next time I got a fill and it hurt a little, but it was a different nurse. The port area was sore for like a day or two. The last fill was the same as last time, same nurse, same soreness. With the first nurse there was no soreness at all. The fill process is very quick, I make sure to tell them I am ticklish... Lol. The first time I almost hit her because arms jersey so much. Guess I have to get over being ticklish.

I have the 10cc band. I had some problems early on with a 4cc prime right out of surgery and had a hernia repair as well. I was so swollen that I would get pills stuck and water was even a difficult thing if drank too fast. I'm hopeful with this fill that I will be close to green, but that's yet to be seen.

Port flipped no longer can get fills - sad day......

I wouldn't even know how to react to a doctor that obviously is into up selling you instead of fixing the problem. I would go see another bariatric surgeon for a second opinion for sure. -
Anyone here is more than welcome to add me on MFP! I am aeromech on there too. Too bad there isn't an easy way to see who is a bandster.

March 2013 Bandsters

I experienced this shoulder pain. It is not like the gas pains at all. Every time I would hiccup I would get a pain in my collar bone or shoulder blade area. Sneezing wasn't fun either. It went away without warning too.... Maybe 2 weeks. Hope you have a better time than I did. -
So far things are going as advertised, just need to stay with not rushing my meals and smaller bites. I have lost about 45lbs since surgery day March 20th. Breakfast is my biggest problem. Things never go as planned.

I work from 6am to 430pm and we get 10 minute breaks at 8am, 10am, and 230pm with 30 minutes lunch at 12pm. I usually can't get Breakfast till 8 or 10 and have to kinda rush myself since I don't work at a desk and can't continue past break. So that pretty much ruins my entire food day if I get stuck. If everything goes ok I have a good lunch and a wonderful rest of the day. The only thing I can think of is getting up at 4am and having breakfast before work, but it's near impossible for me to get up that early. Any suggestions? I work as a mechanic and have management and lead mechanics around all the time. So I can't really cheat on my break times.

You will do great, the surgery will be over before you even realize you were asleep. Just make sure to drink as much water as your body will let you and move around regularly. Gas-X is a good tool also. Just keep it in your mind that everything will get better.

The thought of eating fast food makes me sick.

Murilax works pretty good, just don't use a Fiber supplement that gells. You will have nothing but problems. Some doctors recommend using magnesium citrate, especially when immediate relief is needed. If it doesn't happen soon for you, I believe that you should take something to help. Also, the pain meds usually stop up the system pretty good.

can't get all my protein and liquids in
aeromech replied to bigcheese's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I third that notion! Just keep up and do what your body allows you to. It will get better and easier with a week or so. Your motivation is coming soon when you realize your body can survive off of such few calories compared to how much you used to consume. The weight loss will be there soon too. Keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask for info! -
The spray I use is calorie free, and the spices are also. Just don't use sugars or cheeses and you will be ok without the added calories. Lemon pepper is good too. Popcorn is an ok snack for diabetics with type 2 in moderation and is also a whole grain food that has a slow sugar spike if any at all.

Is it normal to feel bloated?
aeromech replied to jaideeian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking plenty of water, gas-x, and walking helps with the gassy bloated feelings. -
Water helps with hunger. Learn this now because you will be relying on it post-op.

Air popped Japanese hulless popcorn is tasty and low calorie, and also a slider. Once in a while I have to have it, so I use the butter flavor nonstick spray, a bit of popcorn salt, and chipolte or habanero powder. It gets my crunchy salty spicy cravings out of the way without breaking the calorie bank.

Is being full a feeling in your chest?
aeromech replied to bigcheese's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a huge problem post-op with eating and stuck episodes because of the hernia repair. I actually had my band unfilled completely and let the swelling and "stiffness" of the repair go away. If you are having a feeling in your chest I would say that you may have eaten too much, but I don't know the details of that. The satisfied feeling you are looking for is when you have eaten and don't have that full feeling, but a satisfied feeling that you are not interested in eating anything else. It's kinda funny when you are eating and then get to a point that something will distract you and you don't go back to eating. The over full feeling after being banded is really uncomfortable. It's kinda like having pressure pushing up from the bottom of the band. I hope that helps you out. People are different and describe things differently, so your experiences might differ from mine. -
The thought of eating fast food makes me sick.
aeromech replied to WrenBird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to think fast food was normal. Also that some of the choices at those restaurants were more healthy than the burgers and fries. Now, I just don't think twice driving past these places. I don't even think of them as last resort if I don't bring my lunch to work. On top of that, I can't stand drinking sodas anymore.... Not even diet. Way too sweet tasting for me. I believe this will continue for the rest of my life as well. -

I have come to realize that every day is different. Yesterday my lunch lasted like 5.5 hours. That's never going to happen for me during the work week. It was weird having to cook dinner for the family and not even be hungry yet. -
Everything is working as advertised today, no problems as of yet. Meds go down ok, I was full off of a hard boiled egg for about 5 hrs. Looks good. They want me back in 2 weeks.
