Good luck - see you on the other side

    Meds

There is a product called Joint Juice, and people swear by it. It comes in liquid and powder. Here is a link to Walmart's website...they carry it. But so do a LOT of other places. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Joint-Juice-Citrus-Natural-Flavor-Easy-Shot-Supplement-20-oz/16608785?findingMethod=rr

    1st fill today and starving

You went through a LOT more just having the surgery!
  4. I've been on liquids for 7 days, and I can't take it anymore! I'm not supposed to start mushy foods until Thursday, but I want to start slowly tomorrow; maybe a soft boiled egg for breakfast. If I tolerate it well, is there any reason I need to wait until Thursday?? I can't drink another drink.....I'm going out of my fricken mind All I want is a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese!!!
  5. What are the rules of lifting after this surgery? I don't believe they covered that in all of my classes. Just carrying in grocery bags from the market can be a tremendous amount of weight, unless they're taken in one by one. I don't want to create any issues, and would like to know the protocol.

    Easter NSV

Congrats on getting through what's typically an "eating" holiday. Bravo! And God bless your nephew for his service to our country. I see why you're so proud

    Chest pain

I'm sure one of the seasoned veterans can respond better, but my thinking is that hard boiled eggs are REALLY dry. Possibly some of it is stuck, even though some came up.

    Post-op Liquids

I emailed my doctor last night (he makes himself available to his patients with questions or concerns). I asked him if the liquids were all about making sure that I don't get sick or nauseated, or if it was all about healing. Here is his response...... "It's all a healing issue. The original period of liquids was four weeks. Some programs still use it. We cut ours down to ten days of liquids. There are lots of things that can go wrong with an operation. And many of those things are triggered by patients jumping ahead of the schedule believing that its ok. I can't tell you how many patients have jumped ahead and had problems. Please stick with the liquids until Thursday then you can advance to mushy foods. You only have to do this once"

    Post-op Liquids

Thanks, Rosie.....I can't imagine Clear Liquids for two weeks. You've REALLY got it hard!! Mine is full liquids for 10 days, which makes a total 13 days when the two days pre-op are included. Some of the post-op diets I read through the forums surprise me. So many doctors do it differently, but it almost seems like some don't really advise on what their patients should do right after surgery. I've read where some doctors told patients to eat what they can tolerate. That doesn't make any sense to me, and I'd rather have a doctor that proceeds with caution, instead of opening the gate to G-d knows what.

    Post-op Liquids

Just hit a wall with it today; total meltdown. You're right, though.....they set it up that way for a reason, and I'll just have to suck it up (ugh)

    Post-op Liquids

$%&)($&%##$( GOING NUTS! Geez......you did 4 weeks of this? Amazing!
  12. I don't know that you can avoid pain. Everyone's threshold is different. I think going through this procedure with NO pain in unusual. Fortunate for the few who skip through, but not the norm.
  13. I was banded with plication on Monday, 3/25/12. I'm on full liquids, and anything I eat/drink leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Has anyone else had this happen? I hope it's temporary, because it's disgusting and makes me want to throw up (though I haven't had any vomiting).
  14. Thanks Missy. That hadn't occurred to me. The gallbladder was (in my mind) a side thing to the main surgery, so I don't think much about it. The sour taste starts in the early evenings, and is with me all night. I'm okay in the early part of the day, and I'm hoping that whatever is causing it, goes away sooner than later
  15. A lot of sit-ups? More like being hit in the stomach with an anvil! I had my gallbladder taken out at the same time as my band/plication. After 6 days, my stomach still hurts pretty bad, and it's hard to know which part of the procedure is causing what. I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm still not breathing normally. Deep breaths hurt, so I guess I've been shallow breathing since the surgery. Hopefully that will subside in the next few days. Yeah - I would call your doctor and request a heavy duty pain killer. I can't imagine them sending you home without it.....never heard of it, actually.
  16. After banding, you're not suppose to take Advil (ibuprofen) anymore. It's hard on the stomach, and erodes the band. My doctor gave me a list of acceptable over the counter pain relievers, and Tylenol is fine. I can't imagine why a surgeon wouldn't give you a prescription for a narcotic pain killer. Like some above, I also got liquid Vicodin, which saved me! Yesterday I took it only one time, which is a huge improvement from a few days ago. I'm only half way through the bottle, and they wrote it with two refills. Can't imagine how on earth I'd need that much, but it's good to have around.....
  17. Miralax is the best overall. It's tasteless, and mixes into water. You don't even know anything is in there when you drink it. The other great thing about it is, that it just passes through your system; has no chemical effect, doesn't produce gas.... The only downside is that it can take a couple of days to kick in. But you're supposed to drink it daily. I think that with the liquid only diet, it should work pretty quickly. Prune juice rarely does anything for me under "normal" circumstances, but right now it's acting very quickly in getting the job done :-)
  18. Just an FYI - I finally went 4 days after the surgery, which was the day after I added prune juice. My suggestion is to try prune juice OR Miralax. Overkill on too many poop producing things might cause you some gastric distress.
  19. Prune juice really helps with constipation. I had the same problem, and when I drink 4-6 ounces, the next day I'm a happy camper
  20. These are really good points. I will check in with them tomorrow. The food (liquid) seems to go down fine, but I'm noticing that whatever I eat in the evening, is with me in the morning. I think you both are right.......it MUST be reclining after eating. Tonight I will jump up and down for an hour after!
  21. I haven't been laying down after eating, but sitting on the recliner, yes. That's probably the same thing! Thanks for pointing that out. Yesterday, I was so sick of the canned creamed soups, I had my husband pick up some of the soups made fresh by the local market. He brought four different kinds, and the cream of potato was VERY different than Campbell's. Made with full cream, cheese, bacon.... I scooped out a little bit into a pot, and added milk to thin it out. Then I strained out the solids and ate about 3/4 cup. It was still pretty rich, and as I was eating it, I knew it wasn't a good thing. I didn't get sick, but the gurgling in my stomach spoke volumes - LOL. And this morning it was still with me. But then again, so was the canned cream of chicken the day before. Definitely a learning experience! Thanks for your post, Maddysgram - I appreciate it.
  22. Congrats! Welcome aboard the roller coaster ride of the newly banded
  23. Yeah - I'm with ya! Some of these Protein shakes would be great with a burger and fries - LOL! But day in and day out of nothing but, is nauseating. But I'm told that it's necessary to slowly add back foods, after the "assault" to our gastric system. My doctors plan is so specific about what gets added back, and when. I'm telling ya - that smooth/mushy food is going to look like a feast! I'm anxious to see what it's like to start the new way of eating; bite size, chewing, etc. Sounds like you got a good taste of it yesterday (no pun intended). Chili sounds pretty damn good right now!!!

    How Much Food is Enough?

LOL - I've said the same thing.......like a lobotomy that targets only the appetite center in our brain!

    Protein shake supplements

If you want something quick and good, Premier Protein ready made shakes are great. I love the chocolate. They're 30 grams of protein, 160 calories. Here on the west coast, I buy them at costco. But you can find them somewhere local to where you live. Here is a link to the Premier website. http://premierprotein.com/category/shakes/
