I'm 10 days post-op, and though I don't really feel all the initial gas, I'm still getting pretty bad pain in my left shoulder. Is this normal?

Is anyone just tired all the time?
mrsto replied to chas1112's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've been SO tired since my surgery 12 days ago. Today I'm better than before, but still dragging. I've had surgery before, and don't remember being laid out quite like this. Only thing I can think of, is that I was under anesthesia for a longer time than the other surgeries. -
Slightly uncomfortable question about....
mrsto replied to koolkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interestingly, I had a chronic problem with constipation prior to surgery. Now things seem to have moved in the OTHER direction MiraLax is a great laxative. It's tasteless, and mixes with Water. You have to use it more than one time, but it doesn't cause any gastric distress, and has zero chemical effect in your body. -
Favorite already made protein shakes?
mrsto replied to melanndoll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Premier Protein - chocolate. I buy them at costco, but I'm sure you can find them somewhere close to where you live. Here is a link to their website. http://www.premierprotein.com/ -
Yeah - the shoulder pain was one of the worst things with the surgery. That, and that I couldn't breathe well because of the pain; couldn't take a deep breath. I'm happy to say that today the pain is gone. Yay! I spoke with a woman in my doctor's office (had the surgery), and she said that it usually doesn't go beyond two weeks. I'm at 12 days today, and things are really so much better. What a relief!

mrsto replied to goalseeker's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look GREAT! It takes a lot of time for our heads to catch up to our new bodies, but it does happen. Just focus on how great you FEEL, and stay on your path. I love your pictures.....VERY motivating! -
Did anyone here divulge at work that they had a lap band?
mrsto replied to teeney66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There have been many forums on this same subject. It's a big issue, and the feedback is mixed. As with anything in life, there will be those who are very supportive, and understand your choice. Then there will be a token few who don't get it; are judgmental & have strong opinions on the subject. The question for you is, are you ready to deal with any negativity that may come your way? The support is easy to accept & feels great. But what about the opinionated ones? You have to be ready for that. Though I'm self employed & do most work from my home office, I do go out & see a couple of clients weekly. I did end up telling them, and they were both very supportive. When I made the decision to have WLS, I thought that I wouldn't tell anyone, except my close friends & family. But I've gained a lot of strength and comfort with the whole thing, and at this point, don't give a rats ass what the ignorant ones think. The people who don't get it and judge, really have no clue about the disease of obesity. Their attitude is "why don't you just eat less & exercise more?" I've learned to walk away from them, and don't feel the need "make them" understand. It takes a LOT of energy, and I'd rather spend that energy elsewhere. So.....the question for you is, are you prepared to deal with negative comments? Can you walk away from those without feeling hurt and angry? -
Congrats! I'm 12 days post-op, and felt the same way as you....I want my life back! My weight keeps me from doing things that I want to do, and I'm sick of it. Surgery is never fun, but keep your eye on the big picture. The post-op issues are only temporary, and then you'll be on your way to a new....you :-) Good Luck!

Please help me get my Lap-band Surgery This will only take 1 minute of your time
mrsto replied to Jessica C's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You got my vote! -
From what I understand, they don't fill the band, but they do put a small amount of saline in initially. Not really enough for restriction, but they do put some. I agree that you may be very swollen, but your doctor is the best place to go when you're having issues. I was banded 12 days ago, and though there isn't much pain associated with drinking (unless I take too big a sip or too many sips), I do get the gurgling. I'm wondering if this is going to be the new me; sound effects when I drink :-)

Thanks everyone.....I SO appreciate it! I did a lot of walking today, and it's much better. Tomorrow is day 11, so it sounds like it should be gone for good in the next 2-3 days. Karen - yesterday it was so bad that I took a swig off the liquid vicodin bottle - LOL! It actually helped, until it wore off

Apparently I am that 1% that has major issues with surgery.
mrsto replied to Dee99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, what I nightmare. So sorry you had to go through that. I would be nervous as well. That is a lot to go through, and I hope that you don't have a repeat episode. -
swollen site left of port, where tube is. Normal?
mrsto replied to mileend's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand how you feel. I would be totally pissed, and it's disconcerting that your surgeon brushed it off as nothing. Is there more than one surgeon in the group you mention? -
Thanks so much for the in depth explanation. Makes it easier to understand, and deal with!

How long after surgery did you have it?

Havent lost any weight on mushies
mrsto replied to d9leigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG - I'm so ready for mushies, I don't CARE if my weight loss stalls!! LOL Tomorrow is my day, and some cottage cheese is looking like a T-bone steak!!! My suggestion is to not weigh every day. It's not accurate, and if your moods fluctuate based on what the scale says from day to day, DON'T do it! Why put yourself through that? You're following a pretty strict program, and the weight can do nothing but come off. When you think about all the heavy eating prior to surgery, did the scale reflect the gain on a daily basis? Probably not; mine didn't. There were times when I couldn't believe that I didn't gain, based on the heavy caloric load in any given few days. Then a week later, I'd eat a celery stick & gain 4 pounds from the week prior. It works both ways, but so much more difficult to deal with on the way down; SO much more effort than eating what we want, when we want it. Lighten up on yourself......It's ALL good -

mrsto replied to mileend's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there is so much swelling, ice may be better than heat. I was told to use both. -
Mine was laproscopic, but I also had gastric plication, he repaired a hiatal hernia, and took out my gallbladder. It's hard to know what's causing what, but the pain from sitting to standing is where the largest incision is; in and around where the port is. My pain isn't debilitating, it's just....there. I can walk fine, and it's not so bad that it keeps me down. I get tired in the afternoons & rest. But it's better and better each day. If I'm calculating correctly, you will have 11 days to recoup before going back to work? If that's correct, and as long as you do not have a job that requires lifting or being on your feet for hours at a time, you should probably be okay. But I'm basing that on the overall comments I've read in this forum, from lap band only surgeries.
-
I'm nine days out, and it's still painful to go from sitting to standing. The assorted rest of the pain issues have subsided, but that sit or lay to standing is gripping.
-
You look Fabulous!

I had a couple of samples of Unjury. They're a little more (don't know how else to explain) buttery tasting. Also pretty good :-)
-
I love the chocolate truffle. It's the best protein powder I've used. Like drinking chocolate milk!
-
Maybe you're allergic to Prilosec & need a different acid blocker. No one here can really recommend .....you should call your doctor ASAP.
-
nectar is my favorite. I use the chocolate powder, and it has absolutely NO Protein like taste or after taste. More like drinking chocolate milk. The other one I like is the ready made Premier Protein shakes. I get them at costco on the west coast, but you can Google them & see where they're sold near you. Here are a couple of links to the two products: http://www.vitacost.com/syntrax-nectar-whey-protein-isolate-powder-chocolate-truffle http://premierprotein.com/category/shakes/ GOOD LUCK!
