Which chewables do you take?
-
I'm having a similar issue; more on the reverse. I got two crowns on Monday, and there is some sort of lesion on the bone line under where the dentist worked. I should have called her earlier, but I keep thinking that it will heal as the days pass. Last night it hurt so bad that it woke me up. Tylenol is like a fart in the wind, and I'm afraid to take Advil. It was my drug of choice prior to surgery, and I miss it! If this doesn't get better before Monday, I may sneak a couple myself My suggestion is, if you're going to take Advil/ibuprofen, take some Pepcid or Prilosec to protect your stomach.

Bariatric doctors definitely like whey. I'm not exactly sure why, because there are other very good sources out there. Here are a couple of links to some other good products. Egg white protein in VERY good, and many people do much better with it. Also - pea protein. I used to use the pea protein, prior to WLS. Now I use whey, but I will probably switch to egg white. FYI - you can buy these in local vitamin/health food stores. Just call around your area: http://www.jayrobb.com/protein/egg-white-protein-vanilla.asp http://www.nowfoods.com/Sports/Products/M102076.htm

Wow, what an ordeal! I'm glad you're home & feeling a bit better. Did they tell you to stay on liquids for a few days? After so much upset to your system, I think it's probably a good idea. I hope each day improves for you!

I was given one from my doctor's office. it's not specifically lap band, but it references a surgical procedure that limits the amount I can eat. It's very "medical". For me, I've never used it, because I'm not comfortable advertising that I had WLS. I'd rather order an appetizer, or a full meal & take the rest home. -
Bad bad bad nausea - help would be appreciated!
mrsto replied to lellow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sugar free Popsicles helped me after surgery. I don't have a huge issue with nausea. But every once in awhile I'll be grossed out by eating; the thought of it makes me ill/nauseous. I don't really know what triggers it, but it last for a day. -

It means under 200. -
As much experience as others have on this site, no one is equipped to advise you on the extreme problems you're having. As Terry said, call your doctor. If his office is closed, page him. The problem with doctors in the ER; they're not equipped to deal with band issues. But if it's that bad and you can't get your doctor, the ER would be the next in line.

Just chew it REALLY well! I'm not at the popcorn stage, but had a couple of handfuls of my husbands at the movies last weekend. I was fine, but I did focus on how I ate it.

That's what it's all about! CONGRATS!! You look amazing

Banded for a long time and still learning
mrsto replied to Old enuf to know better's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Between the seminars that my doctor's office provided, along with the classes, doctors visits, etc., ALL the information was available......and communicated. For me, I was on such mental overload getting to the point of even deciding to go through with the procedure, than I wasn't FULLY focused on every single detail that came my way. My mind was in a whirl with so much info, and the huge life change ahead of me. Given that my profession of 35 years requires mental focus and attention to detail, and after my OWN absence of mind to some of the details of the surgery process, I'm not surprised when I hear that some people missed some information. That being said, some of the things I read on here still blow me away, and I have to wonder if some folks actually had their primary care physician do the surgery I've gotten some "missed" info from this forum; all of which was already told to me in the plethora of info from my doctor and his staff.....which I continue to receive. From beginning to end, this is a huge undertaking, and I think that some people deserve a little slack for going brain dead on a detail or two. But then again, there are those that sound like they had drive through bariatric surgery, and didn't receive a road map once they left the window -
Yum.....yogurt in chili sounds really good; kind of like sour cream. I'm going to try it!

You went through a LOT more with the surgery. The fill felt like a little pinch.

I believe they can change the port to one of the newer low profile ports. I've heard some bandsters at my doctor's office, say that they did the switch after they lost so much weight, that the original port stuck out.

Are you on full liquids or clear liquids? If full liquids, there are a bunch of different Soups you can eat, but you have to strain out the solids; cream of potato, cream of mushroom, butternut squash, cream of chicken.....lots. Campbell's has a creamy tomato that saved me. Very satisfying, and a great alternative to all of the sweet Protein shakes. You might also want to try putting some unflavored Protein powder in V8 juice. That was another saving grace after all the sweet stuff. Gee, never thought I'd get so sick of anything sweet, but the liquid phase of this journey changed that

I had to have a barium swallow test before surgery as well; one of the diagnostics. It was a lot easier to deal with prior to surgery, but the one right after was disgusting. After going through major surgery, drinking that crap & being rolled & tilted around, wasn't the most pleasant part of the surgery experience

2nd fill down & a B12 shot
mrsto replied to msseven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before the shots, were you taking sublingual B12? They told us to take it, and I'm wondering how effective it is. I've had an energy and brain power problem since the surgery, and I really need to get back to normal! But I don't think a B12 deficiency would show up 5 weeks post-op?? -
Thank you I feel pretty good. I overate a bit last night (snack right after dinner) and didn't feel great. None of the issues mentioned above, just stomach cramp and still felt crappy today. I stayed within my calories, but my timing was off; too much too close together. The nurse is the one who did the fill. She does sit down & go through all the questions about diet, eating, exercise, etc. Most of the follow ups are with her, but if I'm having an issue, I see him. I'm scheduled for my next post-op visit with him next month. I know he does fills, but not routinely. I will definitely talk with her before she sticks that needle in next time

I had my first fill last week, and now have approx. 6.4cc's in my 10cc band. From what I'm told, there was around 3cc's at the time of surgery, and she added another 3.4. The fill helped tremendously in holding off hunger for closer to the 4 hour window. But being pretty new to all of this, I'm not quite sure what I'm "supposed" to be feeling. I haven't had any of the issues I keep reading about; stuck, PBs, throwing up, etc. Though I eat small bites slowly, I can't say that the bites of food are tiny. They're certainly not what they used to be, but I take a small (but decent) bite & chew well. I guess I'm blessed so far, that I'm not having any real issues. But my question is, what is this "sweet spot" I keep reading about, and how do you know when you've reached it? I'm afraid of getting anymore fills, because I do not want to reach the point where I have the PBs, stuck & vomiting. And though I'm doing well, I'm not sure how it's all "supposed" to be. This may sound nuts, but I wonder if I'm not quite there yet, because I DON'T have issues. Regarding band capacity, if I've only had one fill, and I'm already at 6.4cc's, it doesn't seem that there is a lot of room left as I get fills over the next months/years. What happens........do they start putting less in each time; like maybe 2cc's instead of 3? What happens if they fill it all the way, and you need more? Can this ever happen? I hear people getting lots of fills, and I don't see that my band has that much space left

You will have MANY more birthdays, and certainly more milestone birthdays. Try & focus on something more positive! You took this giant step to get healthy, now relax and allow the changes to happen. All of this "upset" you're putting yourself through is counterproductive. Maybe focus on how great you will feel on your 25th birthday!!!

Next time I go for a fill, I'll make sure & ask her before she does it. I don't want her to randomly put another 2-3cc's. I'd rather step VERY slowly from this point forward.

They did not use fluoro for the fill. I asked about it because I read so much here on this site. I was told that it's very expensive to do a routine fill that way, so they don't do it. I would venture to guess that if there are issues, they would use the equipment, but under normal circumstances, no. I will ask about the amount of Fluid next time I'm in there. I have an appointment scheduled for the 13th, but if I don't need a fill, I'll probably cancel it. I still get hungry a little sooner than I'd like; about 3.5 hours. Would be great to have it last a bit longer.

Tiny - yes, that's what my doctor told me. And I understand it. I'm just not sure if I'm there, but I guess I'll just let my "time of satiety" be my guide. When I had surgery, I didn't think the doctor left that much Fluid in my band. The nurse who does the fills told me that he fills the band to max, and then lets it empty. Wherever it stops is what he leaves at the time of surgery. For me it was 3cc's. That lasted about three weeks, until I started getting hungry within 2.5 hours of eating. I was also surprised that she added another 3.4cc's for the first fill, and I'm having zero issues. I agree with Maddysgram, that more frequent smaller fills is the way to go. But GEEZ.......I'm totally fine being up to where I'm at already? I can't really eat a full cup of food, but half to 2/3 is comfortable.
