    "Onederland"

Good Job - CONGRATS! I'm so close.....4 pounds and ya'll will here me screaming all the way from SoCal!
  2. In the beginning, my taste buds were a bit off, too. But it passed and I'm back to normal. Your doctor allows carbonated drinks? Wow - that is completely contrary to what 99% of us have been told.
  3. Mine is also a 10cc band; placed on 3/25/13. I also read in these forums that there are more issues with the 4cc band. But that doesn't mean that everyone is going to have issues.
  4. Terry - SO true, and well put. I myself have days where I "test the band", and I (if I choose) can eat past every signal it gives. Last night for instance.... I'd eaten my 3/4 cup of dinner, but had this burning need to "hand to mouth it". I made popcorn, and though I was done early on in that bowl, I had to (slowly) eat the whole thing. I went right past the signal, and ate through the discomfort. Clearly, the band doesn't work on the compulsion/addiction, but it IS a pretty damn good "helper" when we have our heads on straight. Glad to say......today has been a much better day
  5. YES - don't EVER lose your sense of humor! Without it, life is just waaaay too heavy
  6. Awwwe ........you're a doll CG
  7. You are doing GREAT! Good for you! Keep up the good work I'm past bandster hell, and I have to tell you......the desire and cravings for "bad" foods doesn't necessarily leave. I've had days where I want to stuff a bag of potato chips, and that's not even a "go-to" food. As they say, the band goes around our stomaches, not our heads! I don't have the intense cravings every single day, but when I DO have them, it freaks me out. It still ALL boils down to will power (or, want power, as Carolinagirl refers to it). It can be very frustrating, at the same time, very rewarding.

    Can you remove your port?

I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him next month. There are two types of ports; the original one, and a low profile one. I have the original, but I've heard that they can change to a low profile so it doesn't stick out (or, not as much). You might want to ask your doctor as well. There might be a solution, without removing it all together.....which I don't think is a good idea.
  9. YES - all normal. When I went through it, I thought something was wrong with me. But it goes away.....just give it some time, and rest when you need to.
  10. You are on liquids so you can heal from surgery. Your stomach is not ready for anything more than that. As you heal a bit, you move to pureed food. However your doctor has the post-op diet progression laid out, follow it. When you get a fill in a few weeks, you will probably have to be on liquids again for a day or two; maybe more. Again, that is to give your stomach time to heal from the fill. It's not nearly as bad as surgery, but there can be some swelling. I questioned my doctor about the diet progression, and he told me flat out that patients who jump ahead prematurely, are the ones who have issues with the band. If you have a lot of questions about why you've been instructed to do things a certain way, call your doctor & talk to someone there. They should be able to clarify the "when, what and why" of the whole process. Good luck!
  11. This just came this morning. Has anyone else received one? I can't believe this crap comes through this site. Is there NO place we're safe from this sh-it?! I am Mr. Alain Champeaux a Texas, San Antonio, American Citizen but presently in Ghana, working with TOTAL OIL COMPANY in conjunction with Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) at the moment, I have a very big transaction, which I will like to discuss with you. or email me @ (a_champeaux@hotmail.com) Thanks Mr. Alain Champeaux

There is absolutely NOTHING easy about going this route. If there was a lobotomy to tap into our appetite centers, then THAT would be EZ! Ask the smokers if they think using a nicotine patch to stop smoking, is the easy way out. People are so stupid. I can't really fault them for their ignorance, because it's an area that they have no clue about. What I DO fault them for, is having a strong opinion about something they don't understand. As Bob Dylan says in his song, The Times They Are A-Changin, "don't criticize what you can't understand". Amen!

I completely understand. With some of my issues (bad knees, back, etc.), swimming would be the best thing for me. We don't have a pool, and I REFUSE to put on a bathing suit in a public venue. I won't even do it at a friends house. I haven't for many many years, which is such a shame. I can't let go of the humiliation, no matter how good it would be for me. My friend wants to take me to a public pool that (she says) is very non-threatening. My standard response is "only if I can wear a full on wet suit!" - LOL!
  16. This stuff doesn't bother me when it comes through my regular email. But coming through LBT is weird. I'm guessing that we'll see more new posts regarding this....
  17. I posted about the same thing this morning. Several of us have received it. Report it, and delete it. It's phishing.....it's a scam. I get this crap through my regular email, and was surprised to see it here. This is the second one since being on the site

    More Phishing Emails....

Thanks, Steph - I just reported it :-)
  19. I use MFP to count calories and Protein. That's it. I'm not too concerned about carbs, because I try & get all of my protein from real food, not shakes. Given that, most carbs take up too many calories to stay within my 1000 per day, and a minimum of 60 grams of protein. I agree with many above.... Just participating in these forums, there is SO much conflicting information on pre and post-op diets. Everyone advises differently. I'd say, follow what YOUR doctor/NUT prescribes, and in time, you will find your OWN eating "sweet spot"

Steph - how do you report it?

    2nd fill coming up!

I feel ya! I had my second fill yesterday, but haven't had any solid food yet. I would love nothing more than this fill being the one that puts me exactly where I need to be.....the GREEN zone

Clearly, they have absolutely no clue about this surgery, OR what you're going through. Be strong & stick to what is best for you. You deserve the life you want; marriage, children, and being able to move freely THROUGH that life, without the ball and chain of obesity. I feel for you........I really really do.

I know how hard that is, when friends don't support a major choice/decision in your life. When it comes to WLS, I'm convinced that their lack of support stems from ignorance, amongst other things. People who don't share this disease will never understand what it is to live every waking day, miserable. And they certainly will never understand the compulsion to eat. Then there are those who have had weight issues, but lost a lot of weight on their own, through diet and exercise. These folks have the "I did it the right way, why can't you" attitude. Then there are those who may share the addiction, but feel threatened that you will change your life & become healthy. There are many things that go on in people's heads, and unfortunately, you cannot make them all see things your way. I would suggest that you talk only with the people in your world that support you. Avoid the topic with everyone else. In time, as they see you losing weight and getting healthy, they may come around. My best friend, who has zero addiction issues, has lived this curse with me since we were six years old. She was (and continues to be) very supportive. However, in my initial decision for a gastric bypass, she was VERY worried.....and we argued about it. It was hard to grasp that she was truly concerned, and not judging. Stay strong in your decision. It's your life, and you have to make choices based on what is best for YOU, and not what other people think you should or shouldn't do. Hang in there.....

    Is This Normal?

I had a second fill this morning, and now have 7 cc's in my 10cc band. I sat & drank the three glasses of Water before leaving the doctor's office (they have everyone do that to make sure there aren't any obvious issues). I was fine. Now I'm drinking a Protein shake, and it's going down okay, but I am having gurgling, and I feel it sit for a few seconds before it goes all the way through. This is new to me, because I've had ZERO issues since surgery. Is this normal? I'm wondering what it will be like when I start back on regular food. They only added 1/2 cc to what was already in the band, and I'm hoping it gives me the bit of restriction (for lack of a better word) that I need. Can you have some of these types of "effects" temporarily, right after a fill? "Temporarily" being the key word
