  1. When I had my hysterectomy last year, the doctor gave me Percoset. It worked really well, and I didn't get sick. Although, I don't seem to have a problem with any of them. If you're still having a lot of pain, even with the Tylenol and codeine, then maybe they can give some to try? Just a thought. I hate being in pain, and have little tolerance for it. Feel better!
  2. Nina - I had plication done with my lap band surgery, so I can't really comment on the pain. I had that done, along with removal of my gallbladder & a hernia repair. I was in a lot of pain, but I can't say which thing caused what. Logically speaking, it was probably a combo of everything. That being said, I would love to hear back from you when the pain subsides, and you're up and running with the new plication. I'm interested to know how different it is, other than the band alone. I don't have a reference point since both were done together, but I always wanted input from someone who had them done separately. As far as the pain, it will subside. If it's off the charts horrible, then call you doctor. But remember, they just folded in your stomach and sutured it. I'm not surprised that you're in a lot of pain. But I do know that it subsides with a bit of time. When I woke up from surgery, I could barely breathe. And it was that way for a good two weeks. I hope you have some really GOOD pain meds! I had Lortab (liquid Vicodin). SAVED me! Hang in there.......

    Knee pop and giving out

YES - see a doctor. You don't want to mess with that, and possibly turn it into a permanent injury. You may need a brace in order to do that type of workout. Or, possibly that workout isn't right for you. Not to worry, though.....there is so much else you can do. But let your doctor (preferably an orthopedic/knee specialist) assess and prescribe.

    Depression....

Stephanie - I also went through something. I don't know that it was depression, but definitely some emotional changes. It has passed now, but it was rough there for a minute. For me, what I think it was, was a sense of mourning. Doing this surgery is a huge life changing undertaking, and we change our relationship with our one true love.....food. There is a ton of emotional baggage that goes along with that, and not being able to sit down and self medicate with food, at a time when emotions are running wild, is very hard to deal with. Also.....there is a lot of build up and excitement prior to surgery. Then....it's over. A bit like a letdown after you've been planning a big vacation....or a wedding, etc. Steph - you are still pretty new. Allow yourself to go through the emotions that you need to go through. Honor those feelings. This is a big change, and it takes time to come to terms with a new way of living. You'll come out of it. If you find that a lot of time has passed and you're still in a funk, then it might be a good idea to talk with a therapist. Doesn't mean that you have to be in therapy forever; just to get over the hump. But honestly, it's too soon. Just allow the feelings to happen, and you'll start to notice that you're getting back to......you
  6. YES - I'm totally with you on that! As much as we somewhat get to know each other on this site, I love the anonymity. There is a lot of support here, and a good group of people

    New Member Bio

Welcome! And congratulations on making a huge decision to improve your health....and your life You sound just like I was.... I went to the free seminar, and the next morning I was their first caller; setting up every possible appointment I could. Like you, I was SO excited, and beyond ready for this life change. Again, welcome to this group. You will find so much valuable support. I joined about 3-4 weeks prior to surgery, and got a lot of support pre and post op. Now I love being able to give back, as I received so much.
  8. Congrats, Donna! Well done!!!
  9. For me, soft solids was things like cottage cheese, greek yogurt, Beans, humus, avocados, oatmeal, etc. Did the nutritionist at your doctor's office give you a list? I got a diet progression, which included a list of what could be eaten when I reached different phases.
  10. ALL normal stuff! And congrats on the surgery date My own feeling about telling people is, don't. For now, try & just tell the most significant people in your life; your mom, best friend, boyfriend, etc. Right now, it's important that you take care of yourself, without having to explain it, or deal with the opinions of others. And if you choose to tell casual people in your world (co-workers, etc.) there will be opinions. The other thing is that people will start to watch what you eat. I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to deal with, is people watching what I do. This is hard enough as it is, without having to deal with "all eyes on you". Again.....just my personal feeling. There have been MANY posts on this same subject, and many were sorry that they told a lot of people. You have to decide what feels good for you. Can you deal with negativity on this huge decision you've made? Are you the type that can let the judgement of others roll off your back? I've had moments where I was so excited about this, I just wanted to blurt it out. But then I'd hold back. Little by little, I've become less concerned about what anyone else thinks. But even still, my biggest fear is failure. It's not my plan to fail, but if I do, I certainly don't want to deal with the scrutiny of others. Just something to think about. I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. It's a very exciting, life changing time!

Banded yesterday has not been easy

So sorry that you're having a difficult time. But I assure you......it WILL pass! Are they giving you anything for the pain? I had Lortab (liquid Vicodin) and it saved me. Walking is excellent, but sometimes in the beginning you need the pain meds. I hope you feel better soon. Please don't doubt your decision to have this surgery. You've just had a major assault to your body, and it's going to take time to heal. I know it's hard, but in a few days things will look and feel very different. In the beginning, it's a roller coaster ride..... But things do settle down, and I think you'll be jumping for joy when you see the numbers on the scale dropping. Try & keep your eye on the big picture

    15th Anniversary

    I love this!!!!
  14. Seems to me that you shouldn't have to wait three weeks for a fill. Don't they answer the phone? My suggestion.....KEEP calling. When I've needed a fill, I never waited more than 2-3 days. One day (luck of the draw), they got me in the same day. Keep trying! As they say..... "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" (so to speak). Good luck. I know how frustrated you must feel.

    lawn mower

I like ALL of the "silly successes". These are things most of us totally get, and it's good to take notice of the little things......that aren't really "little". This is silly, but I'm sure many can relate.... At my client's office, I sit in a Herman Miller chair. The arms move in and out, and as soon as I sit down, I've always had to push the arms outward......to accommodate my wideness. Yesterday when I was there, I noticed as I was leaving, that I hadn't moved the arms out. I looked back at the chair & thought...WOW. I would always move the arms back into their normal position, because I was humiliated that I couldn't fit comfortably with the arms going straight forward. A small thing, but certainly a victory CG - keep'em coming! I love these things

    Day 2 after LB

Congrats on your surgery - welcome to the other side Some of the pains you mention can be related to the way they positioned your body during the surgery. Like.....neck and possibly some back pain. Aside from my actual surgical pain, my neck and lower back were really bad for a good week. Regarding the use of Advil......did your doctor say this was okay? Most all of us were instructed to stop taking any type of NSAID; aspirin, Advil, Aleve, etc. Tylenol is fine, but the Advil can be an issue.
  20. GREAT - so glad to hear it!

    Stuck at first bite!

I read this same suggestion by a bariatric doctor on another site. I don't remember if he said sip something warm, but he said it tends to "prime the pump" for people with this issue.

    Bandster hell

Based on what you're saying, I guess I'm confused by your original post. Why would you wish for the sleeve, when you're not hungry, and have to force yourself to eat? Fast food isn't the best choice, but if you portion it & account for it, then you're not doing as badly as you think. By your original post, it sounded like you were eating a bit out of control....like, super sizing your meals at the drive through. If you're not hungry, the band is doing it's job. What is it that you think the sleeve will do, that the band isn't?
  23. I've heard all different prices on that come through this forum. The best thing you can do is call your doctor's office & find out what they charge
  24. When I was on liquids....one night my husband came home and practically inhaled his dinner. He was starving, and I looked at him said "you're eating like an animal!". Honestly, I was SO annoyed, and the sound of him chewing made my skin crawl. I think that was my worst.....

    Bandster hell

It sounds like you've lost your motivation. The sleeve won't fix that. You will need to do the work with all of these surgeries, and looking toward the sleeve is a bit of a cop out. I'm not saying that I don't understand the frustration and the drive to eat bad things. But you've only been banded a short time, and it doesn't sound like you've given it enough of a chance.....before throwing your arms up saying that you should have gone with the sleeve. NONE of these surgeries do the work for you. Hell, I wish they did!! It's hard.......I get it. I agree with bindi above..... shake it off and move forward. And try & get in touch with why you're trying to sabotage the surgery. Mellstav - we all have times when we veer off the path. It's frustrating, and it's scary. Given our past with food, we never know if a little step off the path, is going to be a 1000 mile trip off the path. I've had my moments as well, but every morning you wake up is a new day. Maybe go into your doctor's office & meet with the nutritionist. And if you need a fill, maybe that would help. But only you can take care of your mindset. Good luck....
