I'm with Terry. Not on the Fox News part (sorry Terry), but about sticking to open forum conversations about the lap band. This has become a real hiss & spit match, and it's not what we're here for. If we're going to open this forum up to politics, I'll put on my boxing gloves & be prepared to spend way more time in front of this computer than I already am

I will.... I have to schedule a follow up appointment with him soon. I was supposed to go on 6/28, but they cancelled the appt.....he's going out of town. What do you do at the hospital?
-
Lovely..... I had no idea. I'll ask him when I have my next appointment.....just out of curiosity. I had kidney surgery years ago, and know catheters all too well. Never occurred to me that they would use one during surgery. Then again, other then what they tell me going in, I have know idea what happens when "the lights go out" :-)

Who was the toughest person you decided to tell about getting the band?

Your mother in law sounds like a real pain in the ass..... -
Beanie - your doctor uses catheters on lap band patients? Thankfully, I didn't have one. My doc only uses them on his bypass patients (not sure about the sleeve patients).

If I can do it, so can you!

That is pathetic......a hospital serving FRIED fatty food. One would almost think that it's their way of keeping people coming! -
I'm with Karen on this one. Best to call your doctor & ask. But my thought is that it's too soon for that type of exercise. But as with everything else in bariatric surgery, all doctors have their own protocol.

Congrats! Yes, it's wonderful when you finally feel the band do its job! You will get to the green zone soon enough. My suggestion is, move slowly toward it. It's a lot better than going into the red zone, with all the issues and discomfort that go with it.

How exciting! This is the first day of the rest of your life I'll send good energy at 11:00! Although, by the times listed on everyone's posts, I'm not quite sure what time zone you're in. Maybe three hours ahead of the west coast? No matter - positive thoughts coming your way! I look forward to hearing how you're doing. Good luck!!

I've had problems on and off; not just today. Last week Safari kept shutting down, but only when I was in LBT. Maybe it's a sign that I'M on here too much - LOL!

Off the subject of lap band surgery, is anyone finding this site slow? Sometimes it takes a long time for my posts.....to post. I don't know if it happens when there is a lot of traffic coming through, of if it's my computer. I don't seem to have the problem doing anything outside of LBT. Just curious

Done! I am officially banded!

CONGRATS! Welcome to the other side :-) Are you still in the hospital, or was it outpatient? -

Mis - the human spirit never ceases to amaze me. You exemplify that. As a poster above stated.....you are a true warrior. Thanks for this post. So many of us need a little shake every now and again; you provided that today. -
I was born in Chicago; move to Los Angeles when I was six. Hundreds of years ago! LOL!
-
Yay! You're the first person on here I've seen that also went to Dr. Billy. Me too; banded & plicated on 3/25/13

I live in SoCal. My husband is from Ft. Lauderdale, and though he left many years ago, he still hates it with a passion. Hopefully, one day you'll find your way back to SD!

Will I be back to normal tomorrow?

As much as I couldn't wait for real food, I was also scared about having an episode; like the ones we read about. Because of that, I ate SO slow, and my bites were extra tiny. I paid close attention to how each bite felt, and little by little, I found my comfort zone. Certain things didn't feel good. They didn't make me sick, but I just didn't like the way they felt; made me a bit nauseous. So I excluded those things, and stuck to what felt comfortable. All the ground meats worked very well. Eggs, sort of hit & miss. Sometimes (even three months out), if I eat them in the morning, I'll taste them for hours. Not sick, just grossed out. Just a suggestion..... On the fruits & veggies, make sure the veggies are cooked until they're very soft. Fruit and vegetables have been tricky for me. Some cause immediate discomfort as soon as they hit my stomach. You'll be fine! It's okay to be a little scared, because that will help keep you focused on what you need to do. In the beginning, all of the teeny tiny slow eating helped me to retrain myself. If I'm preoccupied while eating, I may forget, but only momentarily. Good luck! -
Regarding the breathing issue, I had it......bad! The first words out of my mouth when I woke up from surgery was "I can't breathe". And I had a hard time taking a deep breath for a good 2-3 weeks. It slowly improved, but it was an issue for longer than I expected. Did they do a hernia repair as well? Did they give you one of those plastic breathing gizmos with the ball inside.....to keep your lungs clear (can't remember what it's called)? So sorry you're having to deal with this. The surgery is enough all by itself, without the added issues. Please let us know how you're doing.

Did your doctor give you anti-nausea meds? If not, it might be a good idea to have him call in a prescription.
-
Wow...cattle call anyone?
mrsto replied to deleteme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Under those circumstances, I would also be livid! I understand that emergencies come up, and sometimes doctors are running late. But to intentionally schedule so many for the same time slot, is downright disrespectful of other people's time. -
Offensive FB post of the day...what do you all think? obesity a disease?
mrsto replied to beanie80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Beanie - can't WAIT to hear what comes back -
I've been taking the petite calcium pills since Saturday, and they're working out very well! And I'm glad, because the other options we starting to make me gag. Even the chocolate chews.

Offensive FB post of the day...what do you all think? obesity a disease?
mrsto replied to beanie80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I read something that really rang true for me. I cut and paste it below. “The suggestion that obesity is not a disease but rather a consequence of a chosen lifestyle exemplified by overeating and/or inactivity is equivalent to suggesting that lung cancer is not a disease because it was brought about by individual choice to smoke cigarettes” While I understand the feeling that obesity is more of a disorder, those of us who are predisposed, can't simply "choose to not overeat". If it was that simple, obesity would not be at epidemic proportions. I'm just sayin'...... -

Yep, it's a disease. And many doctor's have referred to it that way for many years.
