I also had my first fill at the 4 week mark. You're right.....as with everything else with bariatric doctors, they all do things a little differently.

Scale is all over the place
mrsto replied to downysoft's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One other thing that I'm thinking..... If I move my scale to different areas on the floor, I'll get a totally different reading. The scale can be a little to the side of usual; above or below it's typical spot, and it fluctuates. So.....in addition to all the good suggestions above, make sure that your scale is always in the same exact spot -
Congrats! I broke 200 about 2 weeks ago, and I said the same thing....that I NEVER want to see that number again!!

This surgery changed my life!

DITTO!! -
I have a bottle of Nature Made gummies, but (I don't know why) I don't feel that they're potent enough. They seem to be lacking in some areas. Which ones are y'all taking?
-
I take chewables, too, but think I'm going to switch to liquid. There are some days when I look at the bottle & walk away; can't deal with it. On those days I take gummies. Years ago I took a liquid vitamin/mineral supplement that I bought online. I can't remember the name, but I keep searching. They were great Vitamins, and were decent tasting. But you can find liquids in the health food stores....or the Vitamin Shoppe. That may be a good alternative, if you're having ongoing issues with the chewable.

On my way to the hospital
mrsto replied to herestoanewlife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! It's VERY exciting!! -
I haven't had a stuck episode yet (nothing significant), but I think they happen from taking too big a bite, and not chewing thoroughly. Also, if food is way too dry. Wish I had that problem with fries. I've had them (only a few) since being banded, and they go down easily. Though, I don't gobble them; I take bites & chew to a pulp.

How often do you weigh yourself?
mrsto replied to Nurse_B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Typically, I weigh myself once a week. I can't deal with daily fluctuations; day to night, night to day.....DAY to day. Once a week keeps me sane. Years back I was a complete and total scale addict. I was on the thing several times a day. In later years I mellowed a bit. Then, as I started gaining weight (again), I didn't even want to know what the number was. I could tell in my clothes, but I avoided the scale like the plague. Now, my goal is to keep moving forward in my post-op life, without making myself obsessed and crazed with the scale. If I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing, the weight is going in the right direction. -
Ditto on the above. I use MyFitnessPal, and it keeps me in check. My guess is that you're eating too many calories to lose weight. Band or no band, that's what it all boils down to. Also - I would call your doctor's office and ask for guidance. I cannot believe that a bariatric doctor wouldn't prepare his patients with dietary guidelines, for the long road ahead. Also - make sure that the FIRST thing you eat is dense protein; chicken, fish, beef, turkey, etc. With the band, that is what will keep you satisfied on smaller amounts of food. Make sure to get a minimum of 60 grams of Protein per day. The food tracking program will keep tabs on that, as well as calories.

Are you tracking your calories and protein?

Who was the toughest person you decided to tell about getting the band?
mrsto replied to aviva1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad that your parents responded with full support. I know how good that must have felt!! And you sound like you've totally got your head on straight. There will be people who have strong judgements about WLS, but in my experience, it comes from ignorance and a lack of understanding ALL of the issues surrounding obesity. Stay strong, girl......you'll do GREAT! -
I'm bummed.... I recently got a Windows phone, and the app isn't available......yet. I knew when I got the phone, that apps are an issue (because it's too new). Oh well.... It DOES have MyFitnessPal, and some others that were important when making the decision to buy that particular phone.....which I love (I might add)

My Ah-Ha moment...What was yours?
mrsto replied to Judy Robinette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CG - you brought tears to my eyes..... -
I keep hearing about fitbit. I'm going to check it out.....

I cracked up on the "put on a sexy dress...we're going to Red Lobster". A real class act - LOL!
-
Parisshel - thank you for the clear, NON-angry/defensive explanation on why european doctors are moving away from the band. Clearly, not an issue of efficacy, but of profitability. Now, can everyone please put their guns down?

My Ah-Ha moment...What was yours?
mrsto replied to Judy Robinette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always use bath sheets, and as I was gaining weight, momentarily thought they might be shrinking. Really??! Yes, a fleeting thought with a huge dose of reality. The towel is wrapping around a bit better now, but not as good as it WILL be :-) -
The best broth I found was the one I made myself. Yeah, I know.....labor intensive. But I couldn't find anything in a can to match it. It's actually pretty simple. I made chicken soup (chicken, onion, celery, carrots, salt & pepper), removed the solids, strained the broth......good to go. Otherwise, it was Swanson's low sodium in the can, which got really sickening on a regular basis.

My Ah-Ha moment...What was yours?

Ah yes, the ole' stretch & wear syndrome My nightgowns, T-shirts, stretchy pants.....ALL of it! I had the same experience just this week. I couldn't find a nightgown to wear (guess they were all in the laundry), so I pulled an old one out of the drawer. Hadn't worn it in about 2 years. I thought.....okay, maybe? Put it on - NO problem! This morning I went shopping in my closet, and pulled things out of nooks & crannies that hadn't been on this body in a long time. Some of them fit. I'm elated!!! -
Has Anyone Experienced Horrible Diarrhea ?
mrsto replied to pastor o's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pastor - keep that creme of chicken soup around. As time goes by, you might find that you're having the opposite issue. If a cup of soup gets things moving, great!! Wish it were that simple for me -
My doctor doesn't have an issue with caffeine, but he does with coffee. He said that the acid can cause ulcers, and instructs his patients to give it up.....for good. That being said, I drink one cup every morning. It's sacred I tried doing tea right after surgery, but it's just not the same. I've abided by most all of the rules, except for this one. Congrats on your son! I know how proud you must feel

I still have reflux. I also had a hernia repair, and I thought that was supposed to fix it. I guess not. I'm back on 40mg of Prilosec daily, and even so, still feel it come up into my throat. I'm beginning to wonder if my band is a bit too tight, but everything else is fine; no issues eating, no pain, etc. Sorry you're having such problems. and I hope for you sake that you don't lose the band.
